Attempted Murder Charges

  • Four men were charged today with allegedly trying to kill an off-duty Chicago police officer in a Southwest Side shooting that one police source said erupted when they mistook the gang-enforcement officer for a gang rival.

The officer -- whom Chicago Police Department officials declined to identify -- was driving home about 3 a.m. Thursday through a section of Little Village carved up as turf by the Latin Kings and Two-Sixers, rival gangs that have been fighting to dominate the local drug trade for decades.

An excellent follow up job by the Area 4 detectives and gang guys.

This quote here seems to verify other parts of the story though:
  • At that point, the officer dialed 911 for help -- twice -- but the gang members allegedly accelerated and pulled up next to the officer on 26th Street.
Had to call twice? It's bad enough when citizens have to call twice to get a response. But when a police officer calls? Inexcusable. Something needs to be done, loudly and publicly, over the dropped ball at OEC. We know most dispatchers and call takers do a good job day in and day out. All the more reason to correct this deficiency out in the open.

I know in Will county the officers have to call the state for ANY felony approval. We don't have to because of the frequency of "simple" felonies we come accross ie. rock, cocaine, heroin, etc... I still hate felony review though. Any time an Officer is batterd it should be automatic without having to call those hacks. Getting spit on would have been denied in this shit hole. You pretty much have to go to the hospital bleeding or have a broken bone to get felony upgrade for battery to a P.O. in Chicago. Good for those officers.

I didn't hear the conversation or tape that evening so I'm not going to comment on that.
Here's what I tell my friends in the field.
When you are off duty and have an emergency, call 911 and say " ten one" 10-1 10-1 10-1
and give a clear precise address or intersection. That's all the call taker really needs to know to get the ball rolling and sent to the zone for immediate dispatch. All of the rest of the questions really are irrelevant. If you have a chance to speak more to the calltaker , let them know what you are wearing, so you're not a victim of friendly fire. A description of the bad guy, your star # is good too.. or name.
Also be aware that certain cell phone companys have a tendency to cut out repeatedly the first 5 seconds of connection (that would be time frame when you're rattling off the address)U s cellular is really bad and we have to ask you to repeat yourself over and over again til there is a clear connection.
Thankfully it ended well. Just another violent reminder of how we being terroized on our own soil by gangbangers.
Remember Zero tolerance is exactly that! Lock em all up.
Peace boys and girls you're doing a fine job.

funny how these politicians "work for the people", but they never ask the registered voters how they feel about "conceal/carry". I am sure most people will be in favor of protecting themselves but these lawmakers are making it more and more difficult. If they working for the people, shouldnt the laws passed be reflective of the populace? I say vote the bastards out, and get the laws the voters want! how can one politician speak on the contrary to the 50,000 people they represent? or since the 50,000 won't match the $millions that the few companies throw at their feet, they side with the companies and politicians???

Which was the most important...?

Suggestion to All: Almost all cell phones have a VOICE DIAL FUNCTION. Train yours to dial 9-1-1 with just the one word, "EMERGENCY!"

Stay safe, and this would be a good time to have a charged battery, a Bluetooth or loudspeaker function to help.

Be smart, be alert, pay attention to your surroundings while driving off duty (as ANYONE can drive right into a violent confrontation in any part of the City these days)always position your car in traffic with room for an abrupt manuever if need be, and always carry...doesn't hurt to carry an extra magazine for your weapon either.

I would like to thank SCC for advocating concealed carry here in Illinois. At least someone has enough concern for the average citizen to take this stance. Let there be no doubt, monsters like the one who attacked Officer Anderson in Iowa are out running the streets here in shitcago. It really sucks that my world class pistols have to stay locked in a safe in the burbs. I almost got my clock cleaned by a huge beast, years ago in the west loop. The only thing that saved me was his fear of the OC that i pointed at him. No doubt he had been sprayed before, he covered his face with both hands and ran right past me, instead of attacking me. Thank you, SCC, for caring. In my opinion, this makes you a great policeman.

By the way SCC, The Officer involved said his cell phone provider dropped the call twice. When he walked into 010, he was still on the phone with 911. I agree that most call takers are idiots. Like taking a call and the caller gives two streets that never cross. Such as Kedzie and Kimbal. They never question the caller. So we get a person with a gun at location that doesn't exist. 19C

Rules for calling a 10-1: shot/shot at, Robbed/fighting for ur life, (ect)

I recall in the early part of 2008, A CHA guard calling a 10-1 on Zone 13. He had just been attacked by the animals in Abla,3 of them if i recall correctly, and had his duty weapon taken. I was one of the 1st cars there, and found that the Guard had knocked one of the M-1's out, broke the others jaw and collar bone, and was in a foot chase UNARMED at this point of the offender that disarmed him all the while giving one of the BEST foot chase call outs I have heard in 10 years. Short of wasting time on 911,if you can GET ONE get your own personal Zone Radio. It saved that guys ass that night.Im SURE had he called 911 the out come would have been far worse. NOTE: Offender taken into custody, weapon recovered, offender sentenced to 4 years IDOC. About a year later I was working Special Enjoyment for CTA at 95th and the Dan Ryan and was in a foot chase for a girl with a gun. The SAME GUARD with his partner got into the chase and caught the girl who was hiding along side a garage with a gun in her hand. Dude never caught your name but THANKS for savin MY ass that night.

Grateful in 012

I wonder how many of those gang banger fucks are illegal aliens?

We'll never know right?

While on a Federal level you can legally pursue an answer to that question, locally if you do so you open yourself up to a whole lot of bullshit coming your way by shortshanks and his suckasses in the dept. (so I'm told by a patrolman).

That is just insane.

JMHO, but if the politicians in this city don't make it their business to see to it that a ginormous shit storm of attention, citations for every fucking legal infraction and deportations rein down on gang bangers in retalliation for this attack, you can kiss order in this city good bye.

Here is step one how you turn the hood against the hoodlum: Some one breaks the law stick there ass in jail. Put 'em on a fucking barge on Lake Michigan if you have to if CC jail is full.

Step 2, if they are illegal deport there asses and if the come back in and are caught again stick 'em on another barge of pay Sheriff Joe to house em.

For g-ds sake ADDRESS the problem with the USUAL suspects!

Any response short of that will show the animals that the politicians of Chicago don't have the balls to cross the line in the sand that the gang bangers have drawn.

This is serious. It's a war.

The media should be all over this because as previously posted, if these animals will do this to a member of the CPD, they could give a flying fuck about the citizens ( imagine that) and when the Religion of Piece (as in, "If it's not our way, we'll blow you to pieces) melds with urban gangbangers, were fucked.

I'd say we got what you'd call a teachable moment here.

Nip it! Nip it in the bud, now!

The calltaker who took the first call from the ODPO immediately notified an OEMC supervisor. The supervisor then said OK and did nothing but walk away. The supervisor should have walked over to the zone and made sure the 10-1 got out immediately and that the ODPO or the dispatcher didn't need assistance from surrounding districts or zones. Dispatcher dropped the ball and so did the OEMC supervisor.

I have no problems with civilian dispatchers who are properly trained and do their jobs well.

"Call takers" are another story. They certainly cost critical time in an emergency and are often more worried about getting things entered than in getting help out immediately.

Those old enough to remember officers actually dispatching also can remember how easy it was to be in direct contact with a caller while dispatching a call, especially in a breaking emergency.

There is no excuse for these bureaucratic breakdowns.

Having said that, a couple of years ago I was on Green Bay Road in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin and saw a PD accident at Hwy 50. Dialed 911 and guess where the call went? When I told the call taker where I was, BAM -- much to my surprise I was immediately patched to Pleasant Prairie PD. If they can do that, why couldn't they have handled this debacle better?

I SUGGEST THAT AS A PART OF TRAINING ALL SWORN PERSONEL WHO MAY SOMEDAY WORK IN THE FIELD AFTER THE GRUELING ACADEMY WORK THE OEMC 1ST AS A CALLTAKER THEN LISTEN TO CALLS BEING DISPATCHED THEN I AM SURE YOUR VIEWS WOULD CHANGE --AT LEAST HOPEFULLY. I HAVE SEVERAL ISSUES WITH WHAT HAPPENED YES THE DISPATCHER SHOULD BE PUNISHED W/O A DOUBT AND WHOEVER ELSE WAS PART OF THE BALL BEING DROPPED. WHEN CALLS COME THRU YOU HAVE ANYWHERE BTWN A 5-8 SECOND WINDOW OF CONFUSION BEFORE CLARITY. CELL PHONE PROVIDER, BAD CONNECTION /LOCATION WHATEVER THE CASE MAYBE IT HAPPENS ALL TO OFTEN THEN WHO GETS BLAMED THE CALLTAKER.

ON UR NEXT COFFEE RUN TO THE OEMC SIT WITH A CALLTAKER FOR A MIN OR TWO AND SEE WHAT REALLY GO ON. BY THE TIME AN OFFICER GET MANY CALLS THE CONTENT OF OF WHAT WAS SAID HAS BEEN DILUTED TO FIT THE BILL CUZ WE SURE AS HELL CAN'T PUT IN A TICKET
"TELL THEM STUPID M'F THEY DROVE RIGHT BY OR WHY DID'T THEY GET THEIR LAZY AZZ OUT OF THE CAR. NOOOO WE CANT DO THAT. TEMPTED BUT HAVE TO PLAY NICE. FOR THE MOST PART WHEN ODPO'S CALL THAT'S IT THEY ARE OFFDUTY YES I KNOW PER WORDING OF OATH YOU NEVER ARE. BUT BE PREPARED TO ANSWER SIMPLE QUESTIONS WHO, WHAT , WHERE, WEAPON, DESCRIP AND THEN WHATEVER
BANTER U DEEM WORTHY. THE WHOLE POLICY OF RECIEVING 10-1 CALLS NEED TO BE REVAMPED. A COPY OF THE EVENT SHOULD BE SENT TO CITYWIDES AS WELL BY CALLTAKER WHO MAY STILL BE UPDATING THE TICKET WITH PERTINENT INFO. I AM TRULLY GLAD THAT THE OFFICER IS OK.
