Hero Mayor

No, not Shortshanks. Shortshanks wouldn't know a hero if the hero bit him on the ass:
  • Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett went home from the hospital on Monday after a man shattered his hand and knocked two of his front teeth out as the mayor tried to defend a grandmother who was screaming for someone to call 911.

His office said Barrett was at home resting comfortably and looked forward to returning to work.

The 55-year-old mayor has been lauded by family, friends and even President Barack Obama for trying to help the woman and her 1-year-old granddaughter in a parking lot near the Wisconsin State Fair on Saturday night.

[...] The mayor went to the fair outside Milwaukee on Saturday night with his sister, his 10- and 12-year-old daughters and a niece. As the group left and walked to the sister's car, they heard a woman screaming for someone to call 911, police said.
A selfless act. Reports say he refused his bodyguard detail because he wasn't on an official function. Let's compare that to Shortshanks, who uses his bodyguard detail 24/7/365, has them drive him to Michigan, even travel overseas with him. And how about the mayoral spouse who has them do the shopping, pick up the laundry, grocery shop, etc., etc. Quite a difference. And how about Burke? How many bodyguards and free cars for "threats" that may have happened decades ago?

When's the next election?

The mayors butler McCain has a driver for himself and his son (who does not live in the city) who has a intern job. The mayor's children each have a driver at their disposal EVERYDAY and used everyday to take them AND their friends from point A to point B. But no one in the media will call him on it!

Unfortunately, this incident helps shortshanks case for always having extra protection.

Well, actually it helps all of us for having a contingent of bodyguards.

I doubt the guy swinging the club knew it was Mayor McCheese. So sort of proves that we all need personal bodyguards.

But on a serious note, great job Mayor McCheese, you seem like a real stand-up goy, too bad you wren't strapped.

What do you think Mayor Daley would have done if he heard the woman screaming but he did not have his bodyguard detail with him?

no it doesnt. Milwaukee mayor took it upon himself to take "police" action to save a victim. He wasn't the target, he was the hero. It shows he has courage and thinks like a person, not a king.

And we're stuck with a pussy little pipsqueak runt of a mayor who steals like there's no tomorrow.

And he takes his bodyguards out of state on city time, at city expense.

Fuck you, Daley.

I see in the Sun-Times that the mayor along with his son Patrick were observed dining at Rosebud. A passerby stated that Patrick"Is as big as an ox and his biceps are as big as my thighs." Maybe Patrick is getting ready for the prison time he's going to get along with his cousin Vanecko!

In response to above post....

I heard that Maggie finally had to order Mayor Shortshanks one of those industrial toilet seats, the ones that are cut out in front like a horseshoe.

She got tired of him continually banging his adams-apple every time he went into the bathroom for a drink of water.

Richie couldn't run a half mile let alone trying to save a Chicago citizen. I think maybe I'll move to Milwaukee. At least there the mayor is willing to put his life on the line for his citizens.

Mayor Barrett made the "civilized" mistakes of: 1. Telling the thug to cease his attack, and 2. Saying, "I'm calling 9-1-1!" If he wasn't carrying concealed (which no one not a police officer can do in Wisconsin), he should have just cold-cocked the guy from behind. He still would have probably broken his hand, but he'd probably still have teeth.

This is another place though, where you can legally strap on your gun in plain sight, as long as it is not concealed.

The Milwaukee media intentionally didn't describe the suspect because Barrett had yet to pick him out of a photo array.

I have "heard" this as well, but I can't verify its authenticity. I was told that it was technically legal but that law enforcement frowned upon it, and any citizen caught carrying even in the open would be severely harassed - that's why I never attempted it.
Arizona and Alaska are true open-carry states, however.

The Attorney General of Wisconsin says open carry is kosher but the Milwaukee police chief says that those who do may face a significant field interrogation.

The problem with states that are ostensibly "open carry" (with the exceptions of Vermont, Arizona, and Alaska, is that lots of the police officers in the cities believe what they see on TV instead of learning the laws of the state. When I was stationed in Colorado (many, many moons ago), the Manitou Springs PD would arrest people carrying openly for "creating a public disturbance."

If the mayor was "open carrying," he could have caused the grandma-threatening thug a Depends moment and would have saved his hand and his teeth.

Charges filed: http://media.journalinteractive.com/documents/Criminalcomplaint_anthonypeters.pdf

Hours after his arrest Sunday, Anthony J. Peters told police that he started yelling at a man he later learned was Milwaukee's mayor, demanding to know why he was calling 911 about a confrontation Peters was having with the grandmother of his child.

Peters then "freaked out" on Tom Barrett, punching him in the face and hitting him with a tire iron he had tucked under his shirt, he told two Milwaukee detectives.

He said he hit the mayor while he was standing and kept swinging after Barrett had fallen to the ground.

Those statements contained in a criminal complaint released Thursday provide the first explanation from Peters' perspective of a confrontation that left Barrett beaten and bleeding Saturday as he and his family members were leaving State Fair Park in West Allis.

Barrett was hospitalized after his right hand was shattered and three teeth were knocked out or broken in the beating. Barrett did punch Peters in the face during the fight, the complaint said.

Peters, 20, made his first court appearance in the case Thursday to face a felony charge of first-degree reckless injury, use of a dangerous weapon.

Bond was set at $100,000 cash.
