Another Dispatching Flub?

From a dispatcher at 911:
  • Dispatcher on zone 6 doesn't give out a 10-1. Two 10-1 events come across the board and her partner can be heard loudly and urgently telling her to get out the 10-1 event. Dispatcher refuses so the secondary does what she is supposed to do and dispatches the job. The primary dispatcher who failed to dispatch the job is the sister yes I said the sister of the guy who failed to dispatch the infamous 10-1 last month. Guess stupidity runs in the family. Best part is that nothing happened to the primary who failed to dispatch the 10-1 in a timely manner but a supervisor was seen giving papers to the secondary who thought quickly and gave out the job (I didn't see the papers but am told it was a reprimand). Watch your back out there guys and girls because while most of us up here at OEMC want you to make it home, some of us just aren't cut out for this job.
And as was told to us, they have family on the job? One sleeps through a 10-1, the other refuses to put it out? And the dispatcher who took charge and got the job done gets a reprimand?

Hellooooooo? J-Fed? Ray? WTF?

Some of the dispatchers don't like 5-0 and will slow play the hot calls on purpose. We have a dispatcher on our zone who plays favorites, will hold down a beat car and give out their jobs to other beats. She will message a car to go down for lunch, and then immediately give a dead body on that beat to another beat car one minute later. Transparent.

Ever notice a hot job will come out and they will mumble and jumble for a back up, rather than immediately give out the address so you can at least ride to it? They give out the Cubs score before they give out the address. Dumb OEMC supervisors can't figure that out.

If the dispatcher knows your first name and gives it out on the air, something is wrong. You've been playing reindeer games, Officer Freindly.

Water bill, prop tax, city stickers etc,, is there someway to tell them, take it from the money you owe me?

Sergeants have access to jobs that are on the board and not dispatched. They can easily see if there was any delay in the 10-1 dispatch.

As much as most of them don't like it, SERGEANTS are the supervisors on the street. Maybe the zone 6 sgt's should stop trying to do a PO's job and do the job they're supposed to do.

did this suddenly turn into "lets talk Chi Town 911" ? I noticed that one of the Dispatcher sites CLOSED down because 'they were offended' at the comments being left.

Hey no surprise that the dispatcher 'refused' to give out the call. Lazy and WORTHLESS and POLITICALLY CONNECTED. Wait a minute....what doyou mean REFUSED to give out a 10-1? I reviewed your SOP and your contract and NO WHERE in EITHER document does it state that you have the right, option or choice to REFUSE to give a job out much less a 10-1.

Enough is enough already. We,(THE POLICE,you know the guys out here in the field WORKING and DEPENDING on you to competently dispatch)need to PROTEST,petition and complain until BOTH of these WORTHLESS SHIFTLESS TRIFFLIN HUMPS are F I R E D. The "gee Im hooked up I can do what the fuck I want" attitude STOPS HERE AND NOW. Once was barely tolerable, but again in such a short time span? By a relative of the first POS? Not a chance in hell THATS gonna slide. NAME HER. If you cant/wont/are unwilling to NAME HER,or HIM for that matter then please do us all a favor and go back to your "911 blog" and yap there.Stirring rumor for the sake of doing so is crazy, so if you cant NAME THE PEOPLE INVOLVED then just save your "effort" and stop wasting OUR time. Should you however have the nuts to NAME THESE PEOPLE, I can PROMISE you that some sort of Legal Action(S) can (and will) be brought against them.

This kind of nonsense would never have happened when police officers were the dispatchers, like it was 15+ years ago. Nothing was more comforting than knowing that a seasoned police officer was behind the mic. It was like having a 3rd partner who always had your back.

I remember Stan "the man" Nowinski on Zone 10, who not only knew where you were when you were going in a foot chase, he knew all the hiding spots where the offender was running to and was almost always right! That's because he actually worked the west side before he became a dispatcher on the zone. He also had a great sense of humor and knew how "shit can" stupid jobs like the one's the present dispatchers are forced to give out these days.

Sure, there's some very good dispatchers at OEMC, but they're few and far between.

I'll never forget "Stan's Wild Kingdom" and the man who wore cowboy boots (while in uniform) at his console.

Those were the best days ever on this job and unfortunately they're long gone, never to return.

Dispatcher calls the next beat car he has available quietly.
She calls again. Thankfully others were listening and responded to her call for help.
The dispatcher should have asked/stated, with at least some authority that 6XX is asking for help at her location.
Instead, he asks in what appears the to be the same voice one would use to dismiss a hated realtive or someone along those lines.

That's because he actually worked the west side before he became a dispatcher on the zone. He also had a great sense of humor and knew how "shit can" stupid jobs like the one's the present dispatchers are forced to give out these days.

Working 010 in my rookie years, Stan saved my ass on more that one occasion. God bless you my brother, take good care of those cows, hope Wisconsin is treating you well.

Just everyone do it for safety sake, everyone in district switch to a City-Wide if the identified dispatchers are heard working on the Zone. We should lay off alderman. With Service requests available on line thers no need for them.

Better yet instead of 50 part time job alderman, make it a mandatory first job with no more than 30 hrs at a part time job allowed (like us). And since they will be full time instead of part we only need half of them.

Then new alderman from here on out should get a 401 k type plan and not a pension.

NOBODY IS GOING TO HOLD YOUR LITTLE HANDS AND TAKE YOU TO A JOB!!!! AND NO ONE IS GOING TO FAULT YOU FOR GOING TO HELP A FELLOW OFFICER!!!!

Amen brother. Pete Zur on Z12 was the same way. THE BEST. Would dispatch on midnights ALONE, with his eyes closed. And funnier than all hell. Knew by your voice if things were starting to get shitty and just send you help automatically. And yep, got rid of the BS jobs & blue lunch tickets too.

Repairs, Im told, are done by calling Blackington Customer Service (sorry dont have the number) and Ive been told that you have to give a copy of your police ID inorder for repair to be done. Short of that, put in for a replacement. You MUST be a working copper for your button to fall apart, hope that this helps you.

And whats with the howling jackal animal like NOISE in the background at the OEMC? Most of it sounds like a fat lady laughing and carrying on. One of my FAVORITES is when the Zone itself has an open key. I personally heard one of the female dispatchers describing how she got "it beat up" (her words) last night. She sounded like she part times on the corner of 87th and Exchange insofar as the ghetto way she sounded. That was funny as hell and when she realized she had an open key,she tried to play it off like it wasnt her. WE ALL HEARD YOU GOOF BALL. This is what protects US? God help us all.

Learn some of the commands
on the computer of how to look up
who is dispatching and thier log on numbers, and the command to run the log on number to see the name.
I can bet any of your squads will show you how if you ask. They codes used to be in the back of the fop book also.
The incident was from the the beginning of the month. The secondary not only covered the po's but also her own arse, as both partners are responsible for a zone. Our hack mgt team who couldn't dispatch themselves out of a paper bag are too concerned with protecting the clout heavy kin since they too are clout babies. T as always did her job and did it well. I am proud to be a co worker of hers.
Many of you will be happy to hear that 15 or so po's are going to be hitting the floor after training is complete, since alot of them did not come from the current system but from the " old room". I as a civilian look forward to working with many of them, as they taught me alot early in my career and are also good for a laugh. Good luck to them and welcome back :)

My brother who works for Com Ed was battered last week while working at 103rd and Forest. No car ever responded to his and Com Ed communication center two calls for help. I did a little checking and found out that no call responded because........none of the calls were dispatched. WTF!!!! Since when don't Battery in Progress calls not get dispatched, especially since more than one was received. Thank God he was not seriously injured but nonetheless he is the father of 5 and the end result could have been tragic. After his supervisor called 911, which was the 4th call made, he instructed my brother and his partner, who was up in the cherry picker when the battery took place, to leave the area and meet him at the 6th District to make a report. I swear to GOD if this is the norm down there we are all screwed, whether you are the police or just a citizen.

Are there any sergeants out there?

Sergeants have access to jobs that are on the board and not dispatched. They can easily see if there was any delay in the 10-1 dispatch.

As much as most of them don't like it, SERGEANTS are the supervisors on the street. Maybe the zone 6 sgt's should stop trying to do a PO's job and do the job they're supposed to do.

You must not be the poilce or work in a slow district. They are lucky to have 1 or 2 street Sgts for the entire watch, it's rare to have a sgt sitting in their car pulling up pending jobs. They are usually running around from point a-Z handling all the bullshit missions that this department wants done...dont blame the sgts..blame the shitty dispatchers 7 calltakers..

10/23/2009 09:08:00 PM

**********************************************************************

Were you there? It was the actions of a few ridiculous coppers, that were caught in their collective lies, and enhanced by poor, poor, supervision. There is a lot more here than has been released.

The coppers treated the TMS Supervisor terribly, and abused her physically, over a simple parking ticket she did not even write. My old-days sergeant would have nipped this mess in the bud right there on Michigan Avenue because he had BALLS.

Right there on the scene, he would have saved the city 1.5 million dollars in less than 15 minutes. Why? Because he was not a merit hack and could recognize "Coppers Behaving Badly" in a heartbeat.

If the coppers had just behaved like men, taken the ticket, talked to the boss, and explained all so as to get a non-suit, the city would not be paying out 1.5 illion dollars. Instead, the coppers acted like an out of control gang intent on exacting street justice on the TMA Supervisor. Well, in this instance, the street justice turned out to be quite costly.

BTW, I am a PO. Let's make this a 20-S. That stands for COPS BEHAVING BADLY------SILLY COPS GOT A BIG HELPING OF HUMBLE PIE AND THE CITY LOSES BIG MONEY.

After reading this
I am so happy to only have 10 yrs left.
All of this bullsh*t becomes exhausting. Just as bad as the dispatchers you complain about out there, so have the field units changed in the last decade or so.
There is no radio protocol whatsoever. Cars going down on traffic stops and without waiting for acknowledgment, ramble on to say they're running a dl and give a name check instead. Flashes not being given properly top to bottom outside in, not using their complete, callsigns, 561 , 1561, 2561, 4561, and get offended when you ask them to clarify!
Once again who's at fault here? Manangment and training depts.
There was a time a floor supv attempted to assist you with a hot job on the board, 10 1 , plans etc,, now they stand there looking over your shoulder with no contribution, same with the field sgts not doing their job! Secretly spying on thier units via pdt w/ squad, not correcting inappropriate comments made on the zone, etc. We are all in this sinking ship together.
ps to the comcast worker who didnt get help,, tell your aldercreature to hire 2000 police officers, believe it or not your brother wasn't the firt guy, getting battered calling for the police that day.

A little refresher course. During a foot chase, you need to tell the zone certain things. When you hit the key on the radio, the first words out of your mouth should be your beat number, then your location and direction you are running, then description of offender, then why you are chasing the offender.
But then again some of you guys think you are too important to give the rest of us that information, so we can't get there to help catch your one bagger offender.

for what its worth im thankful to have karen, laura, & mike on the zone when im there! sometimes i feel bad for laura because she gets the short end of the stick...when mike & karen are not there she gets stuck with some newbies that just wouldnt know what to do without her but she has no choice but to deal with it! mike karen & laura know people by voice even if they dont know them on a personal basis! they get yelled at, cursed at, by ofcs & sgts but they never seem to care. i would never be able to do the job they do! they deal with the 007 dist 008 dist helicopters outside units u name it they got it on the zone! thank you laura, karen & mike! a million times thank you for a job well done & i speak for alot of ofcs out there thank you!

((((((((((((((((((((((((((

Went against him a couple of times in Skokie......

He is BIG on the OEMC tapes and the dispatcher jargon/NOTES. Tries to get credibility of the Officers transmissions confused with TIMES, SITUATIONS, LOCATIONS etc.

So if it is a Jury Trial he will present this to show confusion based on the dispatchers notes / via computer and how it differs from what is actually happening. Based on times on the Case/Arrest Reports....

In other words the dispatchers jargon and time stamping can make the officers loook like they are still on the scene or have already gone into the station or a the chase was terminated via acknowledgement etc. etc. Basically FULL OF SHIT!!

He makes it look like the officer reported something wrong. Maybe that he/she may not have intended to say but the over zealous dispatcher made notes in advance based on their "experiences" with the people ont the zone. Then these genius' (dispatchers) when subpoenaed to testify stick to their jargon/notes on the stand having NO CLUE what YOU wrote on the CASE/ARREST reports for transports or relocation etc. and YOU look like you are hiding something or lying....HELL I could be a lawyer and trick these shitheads into paying me if I could sell this shit to them when being retained maybe even win these cases too especially in LIBERAL anti-CPD Skokie!

FYI these side notes made should be discussed via phone after each situation in the station between the dispatcher and officers involved so everyone understands what happend and it is documented accurately! Have a SGT. get the print out just to comver all bases!

Do this especially whenever P/O's have something "crazy" ! We all know these dispatchers start documenting shit! It could be huge in the finding! Then rest assured it comes back up again in the CIVIL proceedings!

They all go to the same "church" that helped them get the job by a certain alderman and then make a 10% donation from each check to the "church".

Location,Location,Location...It is true in realestate and in police work. If there is a footchase, 10-1, shots fired at/by, street stop, or traffic stop, We (the working police on the street) don't care who it is. We just want to know one thing, LOCATION. Doesn't matter who is calling it in, only thing that matters is where they are so we can get backup to them asap.

"Yes, location should be first if you are going hands on with an offender, but for footchase bt should be first."
Bullshit!!! LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! If they are telling you down at OEMC that a beat number is more important than location, then they have no idea what the hell they are talking about. I will say it one more time, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION...PERIOD...EXCLAMATION MARK .!

recognition of the officers by voice, just like callbacks, aren't part of any dispatch s.o.p. . the only exposure most dispatchers would have to these voices would be over the air, not like you guys that see each other in the locker rooms, at roll call, and on the street.

handle accordingly.

To the idiot who dares to say anything bad about Zone 6 dispatcher Carlos: you are a moron. Carlos is the best dispatcher out there. Three different units can be cutting each other out on the air and he will still hear me calling "emergency" for my foot chase! Carlos, you are great and don't let any of this get to you. We love you in 007.

Well, We have great dispatcher on the Midnights on Citywide # 1. Paula & Lenny, both cool as cucumbers when the stuff hits the fan, niether moan & groan when asked for something and speak really good and proper english, and really hard to find, they can even Articulate thier words clearly. And on the 2nd watch we have Walsh, another one who never groans and speaks really clear and has great verbage. Thanks for always being their for us, "BIG DADDY"

Got to second that. 1st and 2nd watch have great dispatchers. 3rd watch was intentionally omitted.
