New Schedule for 2010

This is a good thing. It's all over the comment sections. The main points:
  • The Lodge has been working to modify the current 6-on 2-off work schedule for at least fifteen years. That goal was finally accomplished today when the Contract Negotiations Team unanimously recommended that the full Board of Directors vote to accept an agreement that will implement a 4-on 2-off work schedule in Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25 beginning the first period of 2010. Areas 1, 3, 4, and 5 will also participate in this schedule. The full Board of Directors unanimously voted to accept the Negotiations Team's recommendation.

This schedule has been piloted in the 014th and 018th Districts for the past ten and one-half months. All details, including sample rotations, regarding this schedule can be found on the FOP website under the Current Contract tab on the left side of the page.

The 005th and 020th Districts will continue to work the Ten-Hour Rotating Schedule in 2010.

The 008th and 013th Districts will continue to work the 6-on 3-off Schedule.

Area 2 will continue to work the Ten-Hour Rotating Schedule in 2010.

All Special Functions Units that participated in any 2009 pilot work schedule will continue to work that schedule in 2010.

It should be noted that all desk, lockup, and watch relief positions will be included in all of these work schedules in 2010.

i work in a 4-2 schedule i love it, the only complaint i have is that since we no longer get 3 day weekends, alot of people put in slips for the weekends + low manpower to begin with and we all tend to be 99 on fri and sat which sucks.... but its a grt schedule though.

Slow down with the praise. I hate the 6 day week, but look at this closer. You rotate backwards and lose a weekend. You will be off Monday/Sunday then Sunday/Saturday then Saturday/Friday. I have two young kids, so to me Monday/Sunday and Saturday/Friday are NOT weekends. Being off Saturday/Sunday is a true weekend. Also there is no more 3 day weekends ever. You are off one Saturday/Sunday ever 7 weeks. As it is now you get a true three day weekend every six weeks, and you get two in a row. Comp time will now cost 8.50 hours. The way it is now if you take a Baby Furlo as 5 days off between your two weekends you get 11 days off and it costs you 40 hours(5x8=40). To have 11 days off under the new schedule you need to use 59.50 hours(7x8.5=59.50). Interesting how the FOP put it on their web site at 6PM on a Friday. It was not on the site at 5:15PM because I checked when I was told about this. Got a call around 6PM and was told it was up now. Called the FOP and got no answer. Why didn't the FOP bring this to the members for a vote? It looks great, but it will cost you more comp time over the course of the year. Furlos are now converted to hours instead of days. You need to use more hours to be off your two 14 day furlo segments with this. You will not have as many furlo hours to use as compared to the current 22 or 25 working day furlo.

10/17/2009 12:10:00 AM

If the various house mouses are in a fixed day off group, they will stay in a fixed say off group, S&S or S&F or S&M for example. If they are in DOG 1-7 and work 6 and 2 and are in a district, they will go to 4 and 2.

As for a vote, the FOP board of directors voted on it. It was unanimous. Management still retains the right to, well, to be management. or, as Donahue put it, management reserves the right to mis-manage.

I have heard nothing but glowing feedback on 4 and 2. It seems simple enough, working 4 days is better than working 6 days. This is exactly what PO's have been complaining about for many years, that damned 6th day. Now we have the 6th and 5th day eliminated.

How can that be bad?

hey cry baby we only have 6 day off groups with the 4 on 2 off your weekends come by faster look at the schedule first before you bitch or get a side job so you wont have to see your wife and kids with the extra days off.after a month ask and see how many love the new schedule

I like the 4-2 set up although I never worked it (worked the 10 hour test in 2005 and loved it but it is a long day), but the city needs just keep the same start times as the current schedule. This will eliminate all the problems with the lack of cars. You would end up working a little less than 2080 hours yearly but this job is not typical. Those less hours will benefit the city in less medical, IOD, use of force beefs, verbal beefs and domestic issues at home. That 5th and 6th day on this particular job when in a working district can be a grind on everything in your life.

There were those who lamented the passing of white strips down the sides of the pants, those who long for rotating shifts, those who cursed the radios and wanted to go back to call boxes. They will pass on into the dust bin of history.

Now, if I am getting close to days off falling on weekends, I can take a day and work 3 and then off 3. Fine with me. 16 more days off a year!!!!!

I suppose the flat earth society will still think working 6 is better than working 4. They probably also like carbon paper, typewriters and thin yellow onion paper. This is progress, long overdue.

There are always a few in every crowd. Keep it simple: A Personal Day is always worth one working day, whatever hours your work day is, one personal day is one work day.

BFD and Vacation Days are worth 8 hours each. Period.

On holidays, if your work day is 8 hours or 8.5 hours or 10 hours, you will be paid premium holiday pay for all hours worked. If you want to take your work day off, you use either one personal day or as many hours as you are scheduled to work.

Payday is still on the 1st and 16th however, that remains the same.

This is a great schedule. I work in 018 and its 110x better than the 6-2 BS. Who cares if you lose the 3 day weekends? They only come once every 6 weeks anyways. The 4 day work week goes by so fast its great. If you hook up one day you only work 3 and you have 3 off. I havent seen one negative from this schedule. Now there will be coppers who bitch and moan because they have nothing else to do!! Its 16 extra days off a yr and a lot less stress doing only 4 days in a row. The one thing it does effect is furlough. It doesnt matter what segment you take you have the same number of days off with each. No more trying to figure out if your weekends fall in the middle of the furlough. For the guys with less than 10yrs, your furloughs will only be about 17 days unless you choose to burn a lot of your time. But again, much better than working 6 straight

Officers had all of 2009 so far to give their input to FOP via the survey on the FOP's web site. Unit Reps ere supposed to post notices about this. It surely was in many monthly FOP Newsletters. If anything, the FOP did not get enough feedback from officers yet certainly will hear complains from the usual customers.

As for putting it to a vote, every time the FOP puts anything to a vote by mail in ballot, they are lucky if half return their pre-stamped ballot card. The FOP did NOT want to have less than 50% participation in any vote as is usually the case. This would tell the city that the membership doesn't care.

The unit reps didn't even get to vote, it was done by the negotiating committee, the City and the FOP Board of directors. I have no problem with it. The goal was getting rid of the 6th day, that was done, good work FOP!

They will go bye bye no later than the end of 2010.
The city has until July 1st to notify the FOP if they intend to eliminate the 6 and 3 or 10 hour days in districts, which they will likely do.

10 hour days likely to stay n D-Units that have them.

These officers should be in the training district learning the job. You can just see this plan blowing up in the departments face.

And no, I'm not a fan of the 10 hour day. Regardless of the 3 and 4 day weekends, everyday child care is too hard. Holy shit....are we ever happy? I cant stand to be there 1 day let alone 4.

However... 4 on 2 off! I say YES! When my 3 day weekends came along i usually just laid around the 1st day from exhaustion.

I do agree with us being able to vote on it tho! I dont like FLOP making my decisions for me with out asking!

And watch how FLOP makes a big deal how they fought for this.

Daley is releasing all his hidden billions to balance the budget. Why cant the Police get a contract?

No matter if we get 1% or 10% They will never get another ounce of work out of me. I am over tired of getting shit on by this city.

I wrote to Cozzi and he wrote back stating...the living conditions are beyond horrible. He needs cards and letters. We need to keep him going. PLease write him. What I find amazing about Cozzi is he still states... and I quote from his letter, Bill says I still think Chicago is the greatest city. I still think the Chicago Police is the greatest department. Bill goes on to say, PLease tell everybody I said hello and to back each other up.

Wow other than a bunch of no good bosses that have tried to fuck me over, and the fact that we cant get a raise/contract, I havent gone through 1% of what Bill Cozzi has. And I hate thie city and department with a passion beyond belief!

Will FLOP push for an 8 hour 4-2 schedule? Since we're guaranteed to get shit for a raise this contract cycle, along with decreased benefits and increased out-of-pocket costs, that would make too much sense. It would be easier for these City and FLOP mopes to agree to change a day from 24 to 25.5 hours.

The one thing that no one is mentioning is how the 1st watch overlaps the 3rd watch for an hour and a half on both the 4 on 2 off and the 6 on 3 off schedule. Remember, we work 8.5 hours plus a thirty minute lunch, which equals a 9 hour work day. That is why the desk officers do not currently work this schedule. Another problem the pilot program districts had is with equipment. When 1st watch officers got out of roll call, there were no cars, radios, or PDTs for them. Eventually, some pool cars arrived in these districts along with some extra radios but even now, the 1st watch cars are forced to come in and switch their vehicles two hours into their tour so they can have a PDT. How is the city going to implement this program citywide? Does it really make sense to have an entire watch of officers sitting around the station every night for an hour waiting for cars? This is what happens when no one asks the coppers that currently work these schedules for feedback.

I am just happy to see that the FOP Board of Directors took the time to ask the rank and file if they were happy with this schedule, before they just voted on how our lives should run

--There was a survey put up on the FOP website asking for input regarding the schedules. So THEY DID ask for input.

Check the site more often and put your two cents in and stop bitching. ANYTHING is better than the 6 & 2.

A point of clarification:

The FOP proposed the 6-3 schedule.

All the other schedules, 4-2, 5-2, 10hr were proposed by management.

Check the FOP site more often. They had a survey up and the input on the surveys was used for monthly meetings regarding the schedules.

As with every other decision made on this department, we will adjust.

They have a survey up now about denied time off. Maybe you should fill it out so when they deny your time off, you won't be complaining and saying FOP did nothing.

10/17/2009 01:05:00 AM

-----------------------------------
Are you retarded? Fuck the 3 day weekend. You work a month and a half to get one lousy 3 day weekend. On this schedule you get two days off every four days. You work 14 less days a year you goof. You would need to use about 80.5 hours to complete a 14 day segment. Since days off come sooner, you end up using the same amount of time as you did on 6 and 2.
If you need weekends off go get a job at the bank.

As a 23 yr veteran Officer on the street, in a district all career, I can't wait to start the new schedule. I would be willing to take ANY schedule other than the 6/2. I know each schedule has some benefits and drawbacks and you can NEVER make everyone happy, but I think some of the younger guys do not understand how big this is. This department does NOTHING in a hurry. An alternate schedule had been studied at least 18 yrs ago that I can remember, and until now nothing has happened. I know there are no 3 day weekends, but we were working 4 weeks of 6 straight to get those weekends. I know we all have different situations, but to me personally, it was not worth it. I agree, we should have had more input into what schedule was to be implemented, but we all know the city...if they don't get their way, they take their ball and go home! This schedule causes the least disruption in relation to the current schedule and thats what the city was looking for. If we demanded the 10 hr day, there is no guarantee the city would go along with it. They could've told us to "get bit" and we'd be back to the 6/2. It has to be a mutual agreement and the city would only agree to the 4/2. Not a big fan of the FOP but I think this is a great step and can't wait to begin the schedule.

BE SAFE and BACK EACH OTHER UP!!

Its better than the 6/2 but the worst among the alternate schedules. Its the City's way of forcing Officers to burn more comp time therefore lessening the payouts for the fat cats when they retire. Good luck Officers I'm done in June anyway.

It's the only schedule I like. With the 4 and 2 there are not enough weekends off. They sould have of had each district vote for there own schedule, or have different schedules in each of the area districts so you could bid to the schedule you want.

Remember, we the members of FOP and the City agreed to get rid of the 6 day work week a long time ago, therefore stop thanking the current FOP officers. We the members agreed 2 contracts ago to get ride of the 6 day and made this one of several main issues to resolve. We agreed to have several pilot programs and pick the best for the members and the city. Mediate a fair schedule. The 6 day work week was not an option for a work schedule, the option was to pick between the pilot work schedules. We the members put this as a priority, now our officers of FOP want us to believe they and only they resolved the 6 day work week. Our options were to only be between the pilot work schedules. That being said, do you think the 4/2 is the best. You work the numbers and clearly you will realize the 4/2 is the best for the city not the members of FOP. Stop thanking FOP Officers for getting rid of the 6/2, thank your fellow street coppers who were around 12 years ago who had to pressure the FOP Officers, who enjoy the luxury of a friday, saturday, sunday day off when ever they
want it.

This blows! The city wants you to burn more comp time and this schedule makes you do that. The city says the 10 hour day used in several units can't be used department wide because of manpower and equiptment. Well how about the 6-3 schedule being used in 008? That's want I want. Who voted on this?

10/17/2009 10:53:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Q: Why shouldn't this be be put to a vote?

A: Because coppers bitch and cry about everything. Everyone on the 4 and 2 probably bitched when they got it and it seems hard to find a complaint from those same people now.

Bottom Line:
Still can avg 120hrs of comp time a yr + another 100hrs or so for Holidays (200+ banked a yr).

For those who are upset they cannot take all time due and create a larger bank of hours for retirement max out your deferred comp or open another retirement fund which will accumulate gains that you can withdraw interest free at retirement either way it will be more beneficial in the end then letting the city hold your 5000hrs on the books.

Take 2 days off every 7 weeks and you get your 3 day weekend. For those w/ kids we all know how many events and activities kids have during the week so a 3 day mid-week isn't the worst thing in the world.

Overall, just stop the bitching. I love this site but god does it make cops out to be a bunch of cry baby-ass bitches. Shut up for once and give something a chance before deciding it is so bad. We do 6 days now and we know that sucks so why not try something else before judging it and then if it sucks at least you have ground to stand on because you experienced it.

For example - J-Fed. We tried it and it sucks!!! Get it.....

I would have worked the ten hour days, or even the 6-3 schedule....this 4-2 is not the best schedule. if you really look at it we gave up our weekends to work 6 hours less a year. No matter how you look at it, we now have no weekends but work a total of six hours less in a year. Seems like a few guys on the 4-2 have already pointed out they don't like it and are already burning more time. This benefits the City way more than us.

10/17/2009 10:55:00 AM

You guys are so STUPID!

The bottom line is nobody wanted a 6th day. Now, we just lost a 5th and 6th day in trade for an extra 2 days off that come around every month and a half in the form of your weekend. Ok- so maybe you use .5 hours more for whatever but factor back in the extra 16 days you are off! Now seriously- only working 4 days in a row? That seems great to most of us.

You idiots that work all these side jobs and complain about your side job losses- that is not our concern nor the Departments. Deal with it and shut up- why should any of us give a shit about YOUR side jobs.

Maybe it is better for the city. But did you ever stop to think maybe it is better for the 90% of the people who want a change?

So, for you jerknuts who declare you know that this schedule is bad because you have 20 years on (how that qualifies you on the subject I dont know) or you three day weekend cry babies or even sidejob whores- SHUT UP and quit your crying because most all people wanted something different. So if you are one of the minority who doesn't wanted changes, well i guess it's your turn to take a bite of a big shit sandwich- and it's only 4 days of it!

When my weekends(and I mean weekends...4 days off) rolled around I was able to work my 2nd job 2 days and still have 2 days off with the family. Oh, and between weekends it was only 4 days of work. My 2 cents is that they shoulda kept the power watch and still accomodate the 4-2 watch.
Oh well.

I just can't for the life of me see how these guys can bitch about this. We used to only get our weekends every month and a half, which was great, but the rest of the time working the 6 straight just absolutely f*cking blew.

Sun Mon one week
Sat Sun the next, then
Fri Sat
Thurs Fri

Thats an ENTIRE MONTH with a fri, sat, or sun that im off, while only working FOUR FREAKING DAYS!!

F
O
U
R

This month is followed by only three weeks without a weekend day, and then its right back to a month of weekend days. Add ONE day of comp time, and you not only have a three day weekend, but a THREE DAY workweek! Shit, I feel like a fireman...If today (sat) is my day 1, I'm rdo wed already!!!You are gonna love it. What fucking schedule do you want exactly? You want 4/2 with 3 day weekends? Sorry but the math doesn't add up for that. Here's an idea... Every 5 weeks throw in a slip and give yourself a 3 day weekend. Everyone that wants to keep 6/2 for their 3 day weekends must not have worked the 6/2 for too many years. Either that or they need a psych evaluation.

This is exactly why the city want sthis stupid schedule. Everyone will have to burn more time on weekends. No more three day weekend and you have to work 8.5 hours, it just does not make any sense.
The ten hour schedule is the one the city did not want because everyone would have a shit load of 4 day weekends.

Two days off after working 5 or 6 midnights are not enough.

Want to see some sparks fly? Suggest that we get a real SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL, either in cash or Time Due, instead of the Duty Availability Check, that even cops who never see a police station after dark get.

While we are at it, if a Sergeant gets a half an hour per working day Time Due, how about an Acting Desk Sergeant? And make the Out-of Grade pay pensionable. That would be a nice boost for some senior officers and nudge the city to make more promotions. The city saves money by using "actors" because they don't have to pay the pension upgrade. If you don't want to pay your end of the pension upgrade, your can request a refund from the Pension Board.

What we need to do is get rid of FOP.What did we get for this in return, nothing!!!! This 4 day 8.5 work week only benefits the department not the rank and file officers and that's is why the department wants it so bad. This should have been voted on by the members instead of being shoved down our throats!!!. We officers will pay for this by using up our comp time, to add to the only two days off you are going to get, rest assured. Which is just what the department wants!!!! 4 and 2 yeah it's better than the 6 day work week, but we are getting butt fuck in the end !!!!!

It is funny that the UIC survey which was suppose to get the officers opinion as to what they thought of the new work schedules.... still has not been revealed as promised last spring by UIC and J-Fed.

This is the shit FOP is suppose to be protecting us from, not taking our dues while climming into bed with these assholes. Get ready people because were about to get hosed with this next contract. And you can take that to the Bank!!! Because that is all you're going to get!

This schedule is being done to encourage coppers to take time rather than money.

You want a 3 day like you used to get? Burn 8.5 hours.

Running low on time? Don't check the money box kid, check the time box.

The only single reason this is being foisted on us is because more people will burn their time and thus more people will take time rather than money.

This is going to be the worst thing this department has ever done. More days off for the police, mean more days for bad guys to commit crimes. Did any of you goofs think of that? I talked to my Alderman buddy and he thought it was a bad idea. I guess you can't teach common sense or numbers. I'm getting so ashamed to be the police I might ask to go back to my district and go work the desk. At least then I'll know I'll be safe from beat cops that don't know what they are doing. Remember, as a wise old Seargent with ten years on once told me when I was working special events, "Someone is always watching you. Whether it's the media, I.A.D., or a boss. Don't ever do that again." He was yelling at me because I was on probation and was late for roll call by 3 minutes. He was right to do it and I wish we had more leaders like him.

the 6-3 is great.
1) your weekends come every other week not like 4-2 every 7 weeks
2) you actually get 3 more days off then the 4-2, give me 19 days off then 16 days on the 4-2.
the key to working 6 days is to get the extra day off.

Do we get anymore days off with the 6/3 schedule? People keep mentioning that you get 16 more days off with the 4/2. If we get more days off with the 6/3 and still get our weekends then I could live with working 6 straight days. Also don't you get your weekends more often with 6/3? Instead of every 5th and 6th week they come sooner, don't they? I'm just wondering. I work a 5-day week now, but I know I won't be here forever.

To all of you who want to vote, you did when you elected your representatives. Do you get to vote on tax increases? No the people that were elected do.

There has been a letter of understanding for years to work to eliminate the 6th workday. It was cited by members who responded to the unions inquiries as the number 1 thing they wanted eliminated. Prior to that it was the wearing of the uniform hat.

As an FOP member your opinion is always solicited. I see the same people attending the meetings, responding to the surveys and voting . The majority of the membership is not active and only take any interest when things don't go their way. They then make moronic statements like "why can't we vote" and "this is being rammed down our throats". Take an interest before things are decided and you might get what you want. Or sit on the sidelines and cry like a 5 year old when you don't.

for perhaps a serior office,

especially one who us MAXED OUT but does not have the age to retire yet...

is personally financially secure...

enjoys the job BUT DOES NOT WANT streess of a full work schedule...

let them work a 4/3 or even 2/2, in other words ON A STRICTLY VOLUNTARY BASIS at a reduced level of pay let them work part time and ease them selves into retirement. Less heart attacks. Maybe have a flexible schedule and work when they are neeeded most. Need to think about this more but I have to get ready for work now.

Thank you FOP! The new 4-2 schedule will be much better than the 6-2 When I want to take a 3 day weekend I have no problem filling out a slip and working 1 less day (a 3 day work week too) Last I checked, you can't take the time or money with you when you leave this Earth anyway! More time away from the job (16 more days off a year) means fewer days I have to put the uniform on and put myself in harm's way. Overall this 4-2 schedule combined with the slips I will fill out for some 3 day weekends = a lot more days that I don't have to go to work!! Which means I will be able to enjoy my LIFE which is not my job/work.

The city wanted to get as many as possible if not all personnel on the same work schedule. It was a paperwork nightmare when people were detailed to events like The Taste.

I have over 25 years, most of them on the 6-2 schedule. I thought it didn't bother me, but I find that when my weekends come around, they are double sweet.

When on the 6-2 schedule your week days were Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

On the 4-2 your week days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.

After your first day back at work, you are only 3 days away from being off again.

It also might be possible down the road to tweak the 4-2 to allow for 3 day weekends. Depending on your unit and manpower, it may be possible to flip days off.

It may not be perfect, but it is an improvement. The City and the CPD are not given to rapid change. This took 15 years to pull off. The CPD was one of (if not THE) last department to abandon the revolver.

Its 15 days off. But you lose three furlough days right off the top with the conversion of days off to hours.

Current Schedule...Burn 40 hours to fill in between your current three day weekends = 11 days off.

4-2's schedule... To get the same 11 days off you would have to burn a total of 59 1/2 hours of your hard earned comp. time.

This new schedule is a way for the city to get back your comp time. The FOP did not even let you have a say in this.

Lastly, why are we negotiating our contract in bits in pieces and not a whole.

I knew there were a lot of dumb coppers on this job, but after seeing some of these posts i'm just baffled beyone belief.

People would die to have this 4-2 schedule. If you told any company anywhere that they could work the 4-2 instead of 5-2 they would JUMP on it in a heartbeat! And our schedule is so frickin bad right now with the 6-2 you would think guys would be bowing at the feet of the FOP guys who were able to accomplish this.

But there in lies the few dumb coppers that can only see how they are losing a 3 day weekend which only comes around every 6 weeks. They are so dumb that they can't see the big picture of how good it'll feel to only have to work 4 straight days. They won't realize it until they start working it, but when they do they will understand how dumb they were to ever think that another schedule would be better.

add it up 15 year plus guys!
25 v-days
6-p days
5 bfd's
plus 104 hrs if you you dont work any holiday at all all year
104 hrs equals approx 12 days off
so they want us to take off 48 more days a year. approx.????
besides the days i'm off?
I'm in, this is awesome!
forget the piddly .5 hr shit.
I want the 2010 operations calendar so I can take off the important family time needed. 4 days of time gives you 8 days off!
Talk to the dispatchers about serious contract issues they have!
They eliminated their holidays!
No holidays for dispatchers? grievances and lawsuits are flying.
They are screwin with oemc unmercilessly right now.

Leave it to fucking coppers to bitch about anything!!! My GOD!!!! I work in a district that still has 6/2 schedule!! Who the fuck cares about the 3 day weekend!!! Anything is better than the shit that the 6/2 people work!!! All you jags do is BITCH BITCH BITCH! How about a nice hot cup of SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!! On the 3rd day of the new schedule turn to your partner and say, "Damn only one more day"!!!!!

Your the perfect example of someone who can't see past their nose. That's what the city likes. You must love giving back your furlough days, and getting less time off for your comp time in the long run. Yes six days in a row does stink, but 4-2's was not the best for us. It was the best for the city. Why do you think they pushed it through. You care about the three day weekends for the simple reason "ASSHAT". YOU DO NOT GIVE UP SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY! Even you might be able to comprehend that.

Whos calling who a pussy? I have worked this schedule for over 20 years, and I can tell you this kid, there was nothing wrong with it. It was all of the entitled crew that cried over working a 6th day. Talk about babies I was tired of hearing some asshole cry constantly about a 6th day. There were some things wrong with it but it worked. For you assholes on here with kids, actually look at the schedule and see how many Saturdays and Sundays you will have to spend with your kids, and how often they come around. Me, I like to spend my 3 days with my children and to get out of this shithole City on the weekends for 3. You guys are the idiots. Anything forced on you is not good for you, or haven't you unbelievable morons figured that out yet? That is why this department is in the shitter. A bunch of hairgel know it alls that think they can solve the worlds problems by stamping their feet when things don't go their ways. You my "friends" are the pussies.

Your kidding right ? Your bitching about the 5th and 6th week 3 day weekend special. You have 20 years on. You clown, just burn some of that comp time you are hoarding a couple of times a month and you can still have the weekends with kids.

You are insane if you think the 6 straight days were a good schedule. That was silly, silly, silly, silly.

Not a 20 year guy, but I have 15 and I do not have a problem with dropping a slip every once in a while.

You must be an inside guy if you enjoyed the 6 in a row schedule.

4 on 2 off is much better then 6 straight.

Some of you just don't get it. This is a win for the city, they will make you use more time to have more than two days off in a row, then you will have to check the time box because you will be low on time for using so much of it, so they will be paying out less in ot. So now people are trying to burn an extra day to be off 3, well guess what? more people will be denied or there will be more 99 units; great for officer safety huh? I know everyone is happy about losing the 5th and 6th day but you are short-sighted by not seeing what else you lose. Did anyone stop to think about the midnight watch? how this schedule will effect them? it is going to feel like one day off a week. Sorry but i would glady stay 6 and 2 and look forward to two weekends every 6 weeks, i've been doing it 16 years and it's been fine. 6 and 3 would be the best option IMHO.

Hey FOP... You should go to a 7 on zero off. that way everyone is equally pissed off. Stop crying already, anything is better than 6-2. "ohh, I won the lotto, but just LOOK at the taxes!"

Here is why there was no vote by the membership on the work schedule:

1. You were supposed to be giving your input all along.

2. If put to a vote, less than 50% would even bother to return the self addressed postage paid envelopes anyway.

3. If put to a vote the only choices would have been the current 6 and 2 schedule or the 4 and 2 schedule. That is it. The 6 and 3 or the 10 hour day would not have been offered by the city nor were they offered to the FOP in any of the negotiations. The city does not even want to continue the pilot programs in Districts 8/13 and 5/20, the city wants all 25 Districts to work the same schedule, 4 and 2.

By the end of 2010 all districts are very likely to be on the 4 and 2 schedule.

Again, no matter how much people like the 6 and 3 it was never going to be an option for us.

Yes, detectives in Area 2 know that overtime is down. They don't care, they like their schedule. Besides, there is still plenty of overtime. It is Area 2, they will not stop killing each other just because the detectives are working 10 hour days.

Be grateful we got what we did, 4 and 2.

The other units within the city will likely get another work schedule on a unit by unit basis.

As for Captains and Lieutenants, see what you get for going it alone and approving a shit contract? You can always resign your Lt or Capt spot and ask if you can work the 4 and 2 as a PO or Sgt.

Who cares. The choice was between 4 and 2 and the current 6 and 2. Easy choice.

Not having worked any of the new schedules, I'm willing to keep an open mind on the 4/2 starting in Jan 2010.

I got on this job back in the early 90's and we still rotated. I heard people bitch and moan about having to re-adjust their home life every 28 days; coppers whined about how hard it was to keep a second job, etc.

Then word came out that we were moving to steady watches. HURRAH!? No. Coppers started whining that they didn't have enough time to get the watch they wanted. At least with ROTATING they were able to work the watch they liked every 3rd month. And if you didn't have enough time on the job you wouldn't see days for a LONG time. More whining.

The one constant during all this has been the complaints of the 6 day work week. Unless you made this job your life, no one liked working those 6 days. Now, after all this time we will be losing that 6th work day and going to the 4 on 2 off schedule. Work 4 days in a row, then have 2 off and then repeat. Since the week week is defined as being Sunday thru Sat, we work 5 days within the week.

YAAA!? No. Now coppers are whining about losing that coveted 3 day weekend. Well here's an idea...ever 5th week throw a slip in and give yourself a 3 day weekend. Ah but some would whine about having to burn THEIR time to accomplish that. I guess there is no satisfying everyone.

On the topic of not being able to vote on this issue, I just have one question; of those of you that have been bitching here that this should have been put up for a vote I simply ask you this......when was the last F.O.P. membership meeting that you attended? Hmmm? Sorry, the crickets seem to be drowning you out. I thinks it's safe to say that the majority of the whining little bitches here have not been to a meeting in a very long time, if ever.

OK, rant over.
