Chicago aldermen with their noses out of joint today demanded to know why they are searched along with the masses at the city’s central headquarters for administrative hearings.
Budget Committee Chair Carrie Austin (34th) was so “offended,” she warned Bruner what might happen if he fails to “take another look at your policy.”
“It’s not a matter of giving anybody any preference. But us that are aldermen—we are the ones who set your budget. If we’re the ones setting your budget maybe we’ll take an adjustment” downward, if the policy is not rescinded, Austin warned.
Bruner initially defended the policy, telling aldermen, “It’s not my intention to offend anyone. It’s only our intention to make sure that people coming through are searched…We’re trying to treat everyone equally. We’re not trying to give anyone any particular favors.”
But by the time the hearing ended, he had clearly gotten the message.
The humorous part of all this is that a couple people are posting links to the Petition Drive posting and encouraging citizens to print out more and circulate them around. Perhaps we can get a bunch of citizens on board?

The aldercreatures shouldn't be searched coming into the building. Only the citizens should be searched for weapons, bombs, etc. Alderthieves and the Mayor are not very popular these days.
Search the aldercreatures on their way out of the building. That's when their pockets, purses etc are likely to be stuffed with bribe $$$ and those little bars of soap from the rest rooms, office supplies, etc, etc.............

OT - Property tax bill
WTF? After receiving our first installment tax bill earlier this year, our bill went up $650 despite my property dropping 20% in value. We appealed and were, of course, denied.
Now our 2nd installmentis went up over ANOTHER $1100!!! I've finally had it. As a retiree, they have forced my hand. I can't afford this anymore! Born and raised here, I've called Chicago home for 57 years and I've always loved it here. But I'm through with these criminal politicians. They have finally pushed me over the edge.
Starting today, I will spend the next several months preparing to finish life somewhere else. I'm going to sell off 57 years of accumulated possessions and look for a sensible part of the country to retire. Hopefully by next spring I'll be able to recover some of the value of my home so that I'll get more for the house than what I owe on the mortgage and home equity loans, though I'm not optimistic about that. Daley is turning this town into another New York as was posted here a few days ago. Fuck him and the 50 whores. I'm gone!

Its obvious that that stupid bitch never heard of the story which inspired the movie "Milk." For anyone that hasnt seen it, a city supervisor (alderman) in San Fran got pissed at another city supervisor in the late 70's got a gun and killed the mayor and the other city supervisor.

We have cars running 99 and we are wasting manpower on Fullerton Avenue where there is virtually no crime. I understand the need for a dedicated car on North Avenue but Fullerton Avenue, please.

I'm collecting signatures and re-discovering the sad fact that most Chicago denizens are not exactly what you would call functional citizens. The level of apathy and non-participation among the residents is appalling. Many of my friends can't sign because, I recently discovered, they are not even registered to VOTE.
They don't vote, they don't work for anything, but they sure as hell complain. Look at the pathetic turn-out in local elections. Half the people I meet don't know their alderman's or representative's name.
A lone woman standing by the el stop or by Dominick's with a petition held out seems to spook a lot of folks. There I stand, a middle-aged woman wearing respectable clothing, and people back away like I'm a homeless person asking for money.
We have a number of battles to fight, and we up against not only our unspeakably corrupt and uncaring leaders but our fellow "citizens" who don't have 3 minutes to read a petition and sign it because they might miss their favorite TV show or something. Then they wonder why their taxes ratchet upwards, their services get decimated, their neighborhoods become slums, and their water department gets sold away to some foreign company.
WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE ANYWAY.I PERSONNEL THINK THERE ARE 30 TO MANY ,CUT THE CITY COUNCIL AND SAVE MILLIONS.

Why shouldn't they be searched. They're likely to be armed since they voted themselves the right to carry concealed weapons while taking away the rights of Chicagoans to even possess handguns, even in their homes. How come the media never reports this? You as citizens cannot possess handguns to protect yourself and your family, but the alderassholes voted to take away your right to bear arms retained that right for themselves! Hypocritical condescending asses. Austin and all the aldercreatures need to be been shown who is actually in charge, the voters. Time for a sweeping change come election time. Just think when Austin gets the boot she'll be perfectly qualified to work at McD's.

Lawyers get to bypass the metal detectors at the courthouses with an ARDC ID and an ID from the sheriff. But lawyers don't get to bypass the metal detectors at Administrative Hearings, not even the prosecutors. Only the AH bigwigs get to bypass security.
And contrary to what Ald. Lyle thinks, everybody gets goes through security at the Appellate Court, nobody gets to bypass with an ID.
So it boils down to, the aldercreatures who are lawyers want better treatment than everybody else. As usual.
