What's This Statistic?
Crime in Illinois continued a steady two-decade decline last year, reported the Illinois State Police in its annual crime-rate index released today.
While the crime rate was up slightly in suburban Cook County, it was mostly in crimes against property and not violent crime. The crime rate dropped in the collar counties of DuPage, Lake, McHenry and Will.
But the last line of the article:
- The crime index was up 3.1 percent in Chicago, but down 2.2 percent over the rest of the state.
Crime is up? But we've been hearing it's down, and down big? Is someone fudging the numbers released to the media? Again?

crime in Illinois may be down a bit, but the population is down significantly too,as people are wising up, moving out of this sewer-State....

Parse that carefully - crime in the STATE is down. Crime in the collar counties is down, crime in the city is UP but not enough to drive the state numbers up.
In other words, you're safer outside of the city than you were a few years ago.
Good try. Based on last year's data. The state police Crime in Illinois is not released until late the following year. Crime was up last year in Chicago. This is old news.
Forbes Magazine just did their annual " safest city" article. The placed Chicago BELOW Detroit and Cleveland based on crime and accident rate. Now isn't that scarry?? Detroit and Cleveland is considered a safer city than Chicago!! Wow.
