Oprah makes it official:
- Winfrey plans to tell viewers on Friday's show that she will retire the Chicago-based syndicated gabfest at the end of her current contract, which runs through the 2010-11 season, her 25th on national TV. It's going to be a long goodbye.
Harpo Inc., Winfrey's company, on Thursday confirmed her move to end the program that spawned a multimedia empire, making her one of the country's wealthiest and most influential people and giving rise to several best-selling authors and other daytime talk shows.
While not as big an impact as some of the conventions at McCormick Place, Oprah is a tax generating entity. All those restaurants and coffee shops throughout the 012 District did largish business with all the suburban housewives coming in for a day on the town with Oprah.

Anyone that watched that show or went to it should be cracked in the skull with a bat.
I hope this bit of news caused Daley's chest to get a little tighter and his breathing more labored.
Not that he'll probably live long enough to see Oprah's last show, but if he does I hope he's viewing it from a prison cell.

My understanding of the situation is that Oprah is teaming up with shortshanks to do a morning TV variety show similar to" Regis & Kelly". It's to be called Oprah & Richie. Naturally Oprah is the top bananna with Richie taking the spot of the stuttering stooge. Mike Masters will also be involved as the go-fer on the set as in go-fer coffee & danish, etc.

On the news today shortshanks was blaming the media for Oprah leaving. He says their critcism of the closing down of Michigan Ave. for the season opener made her retire and decide to go to California. He is using more than medical grade marijuana!

Just never understood the fever-pitched adulation bestowed upon Oprah by suburban soccer Moms, but to each his own. Even so, they have had Oprah for 25+ years, and now they have Barack. So has the stage finally been reached where society can get beyond the need to assuage all the guilt?
It is the guilt that has been assigned by our society, and also accepted and assumed by that same society, as unofficial, ongoing and seemingly endless reparations and bending over backwards for acts committed way in the past by people that are long since dead and gone. Isn't that what they yell in Greek restaurants when the food catches fire as the waiter brings it to the table?
Regardless of how people feel about Oprah's politics, her show and production company have been assets for the city in many ways, including revenue production.
"Fuck,it's him again. What does he want now??" Oprah, to her staff, about shortshanks. Thats why she's leaving.
Those fake ministers won't go within a 100 yards of Harpo Studios. She'd have them on the air in a no time asking all the hard questions.
