Glad the officer is okay. Enjoy those holidays off and make sure you're recovered before coming back. Remember, no one is going to take care of you but YOU.

Is CPD-family member a victim?!That on 26-November-2009 at approx. 3:00am-4:00am at 5944 So. on Harlem Ave. my daughter, F/4/23 was driving S/B on Harlem Ave. when her veh/car became disabled and stalled at the above location.

That within minutes a Summit-Police Unit/SUV pulled in behind her veh/car and put on his emergency mars lights on her car.

The officer then told her to stay in her veh/car until exiting his squad-car/suv and walking up to her driver-side asked that she exit the veh/car.

Upon exiting her car she was told that she could not leave her car there due to possible hazard conditions, ok! The officer walking back to his veh/suv-unit did not give her his name or star number and did not ask her for her State-Dr.-Lic. or Insurance info which she had ready if and when requested by the police as required by Law-Enforcement when stopping a veh on a routine traffic stop simply ignoring her just went back to his unit telling her that he was having the car towed?!

The officer did not ask if she was Ok? Did not ask if she needed assistance? Did not offer any help? Called for a tow company and waiting in his squad-car/unit until the arrival of the tow-guy arriving to the location/scene within minutes!!

The tow-guy exited his tow truck(Kustom Towing Inc. ILCC# 139931, of Summit-Argo Illinois)walked over to the Summit Police Unit and speaking for several minutes to the officer before being interrupted by my daughter who requested to know what was going to happen to her car.veh.?

At this point the tow-guy walked over to my daughters car and began strapping/hooking the front wheel's of the car without talking with her about anything. Upon hooking/strapping my daughters car he asked if my daughter had $100.00in cash that he would tow the car to her location of tow.

My daughter informed the tow-guy that she did not have $100.00 in cash on her person and requested that he tow the car to our residence(which was just around the corner from the scene on 63rd & sayer))or the repair-shop which was at 6214 So. Central Ave.. and that she would get the money from her parents who where at home at the time of this incident.

Tow-guy would not except a credit-card, money-order, or allow her the time to go get the money from home. Tow-guy refusing to take her car to the our home told my daughter that she would now have to pay $170.00 for the tow to the yard and an additional $50.00 dollars for storage each day, a total amount of $220.00 dollars.

I called the tow-company on the same day of the tow(26-November-2009, at approx. 12:00noon)and was informed by an unk/M that the tow company was now closed and to call back tomorrow.

Arriving at the tow company the following day I was informed that my fee was now $275.00 dollars adding an additional $50.00dollars for two days of storage and $5.00 dollars for using a credit card as payment?!

Are we victims of a "Tow-Scam" or "Theft by Deception/Fraud by the tow-company. Is the Summit-Police Unit Officer(part-timer or aux-police/wk-end cop)on scene involved in this strong-arm/extortion tactic that was used on my daughter during this incident gone bad.

To think that the only crime my daughter committed at the time was that her car/veh had stalled on a very busy street or given any kind of assistance is beyond belief that you can be in trouble just because you are a young female and alone that it's Ok to take advantage of that person is wrong.

Just don't break down on Harlem-Summit side of the street, else you will be scamed and towed by the Summit-Kustom-Towing Inc./Police Connected clout hack!!

They don't care if ur the CPD/police or not, nor do they care if your family is involved!!!!

Hello out there, fellow gang and tactical warriors!

Since I wasn't there on scene, I don't want to be a Monday morning Cutler, but I'd have to say that both officers did nothing wrong. They probably just got overexcited with the thrill of the hunt.

After all, a shoplifter is a part 1 arrest and nothing to scoff at. Having one time chased down a 400 lb. F/1, with gout, in a wheelchair, that stole 600 packets of Kool-Aid, I know the rush of adrenaline involved.

I wish you both a speedy recovery fellow Spartans! After you guys get out of the hospital I'm sure some tights jeans, ball caps, and "Chicago Tactical Team," t-shirts will be waiting for you.

Until next time fellow Delta Force warriors, same retarded shift, same retarded zone.

Well wishes to the injured PO.

Off topic:

I was at a Mexican restaurant/bar earlier tonight on the Northside. I stroke up a conversation with my barman about Chicago.

INSANITY

My barman, who is a 50+yr old M/4 is a huge SCC fan and an advocate of dumping ALL incumbent politicians.

I was shocked, he has no PO relations or friends. He was turned onto the blog by a female patron over one year ago and follows it religiously.

This blog has huge appeal and is making a tremendous positive impact on the Chicago scene.

Hi Jorge

Keep it up SCC!

Sounds a little fishy to me. Don't know Scummit's policies but seems kinda odd. Chicago would do what is called a "Relo" which is that CPD would call a tow truck and they would relocate the car off the busy street onto a side street (at no cost) so the car is no longer impeading traffic. Then the driver would arranget their own towing or whatever.
If you think something isn't right about what happened you should call the Summit police and ask them what their policy is on such a matter. If the info you recieved does not coincide with their policy then maybe you should call their IAD unit and tell them about what happened so they can investigate. Hate to get other coppers jammed up but no copper likes or respects another copper that is out there scamming citizens just to line their own pockets. Brings shame to all of us and our proffesion.

For the superheros who only chase felony suspects (which means you probably never chased anybody on foot), there is nothing wrong with this P.O. doing his job & chasing the shoplifter on foot. The police instint to catch the bad guy does still exsist in some of us out here. However, be careful...a Markham officer was killed back in the 90's during a foot pursuit when a responding officer accidentally ran him over.

11/28/2009 12:49:00 AM

That is really fucked up. If that was CPD, we'd be arrested for pulling that shit! Federal agents wired & video need to stall a covert gps enabled vehicle on Harlem with standard marked bait money inside the glove compartment, maybe an mp3 player or ipod for the tow guy to steal. And a hearty fuck you to the PO that railroaded her into the tow, did he at least give a ride or did she have to walk home. She may have been better off not getting into the squad car or tow truck with either of these SLEAZEBALLS. I would also recommend calling 911 for a supervisor or another tow company so you can tell them their SCAM TOW is not needed.

If this turns out to be standard operating procedure in SUMMIT, we need to stay the fuck out of there and not spend any money at any of their businesses no matter how good the food. Any store, lunch places, restaurant, Walgreen's, CVS, ANY TAX GENERATING PLACE IN SUMMIT.

To the summit victim: file a complaint with the Atty General's office. If you really feel it was improper, write a letter to both the mayor and the Chief of Summit. If not a scam, sure sounds wrong to me, but maybe Summit actually contracts with a private company to move hazard vehicles off the street.

Why did your daughter allow anyone to call for her tow? If you have Triple A, she should have called them. If not, a quick call to your insurance company would net her the same assistance.

Just curious, but why have you never done a post on Patrick Daley and the taxpayer $$$$ he and mayoral nephew, Robert Venecko, stole from us before fleeing to Moscow to wait out the statute of limitations?

Is he off-limits or something?

OT: There is a power test for new hires going on at Home today. Already over 60 people signed in for the first time slot, and there are more time slots throughout the day. Any news on plans to start some new academy classes sometime soon?

11/28/2009 09:23:00 AM

Dec 14th, 86 recruits.

That is all.

11/28/2009 04:44:00 PM

Dec 16th. Academy is preparing for something to do! Boy, do they have plans for those new recruits! New classes, spanish classes, adopt a district, all sorts of neat ideas! The policy group has been busy developing really new ideas! 6 months in the academy and we will have the best trained recruits!

11/28/2009 08:47:00 PM

..................

No dumb-ass. The Academy tries to prepare them for the state test they have to take. Yes there is some B.S. from the city but if you work for the city you know there always is. The Academy people have no control over that.

The big thing is to get them out and prepared for their FTOs who can transition them to the streets.

FTOs are some of the most important people we have but have been treated like $hit by the city.

I know some of you think recruits should leave the academy and know it all but remember when you started. Did you know it all or did you need help?

No job knows it all when leaving College/Training/Trade School. Do not expect the same from the recruits.

Please don't be one of those Old timers who shuns the recruits but them complains because they don't know anything.

I tell my girls, stay in your ca, call me, call 911. If the P.O. who arrives is an issue, call 911 again, and again, and aigan. It will all be recorded.
Be nice, clear, and correct.

Heard just last week some young MSF 3 yr wonder was chasing some dope man and the po fell 10ft down into a yard. What was he chasing for? I heard 1811. Haha! Go get your nickle bag hard charger! No wonder why MSF has become a complete joke. Rookies like this po chasing the weed. The fall put the po in the hospital with heart problems. Heart problems? No weed is worth that. When will these young 3 yr wonders learn not to risk their lives over the dope man?
Speedy recovery to both officers. Hope you both learned a valuable lesson though?

CPD class act Summit-Police Unit/SUV not so much.

The CPD did a relocate tow for me in Sept on busy street at no cost to me. BTW I am not a CPD or CPD family member just a shout out to an officer that acted like a professional.
I did have insurance, called for a tow and 8 trucks showed up before the police arrived.
It was surreal, everyone bantering about where to tow my crashed vehicle and what to do.

When the CPD arrived he made it very clear that everything was my choice but he did need to move my vehicle as it was a hazard. We all agreed and he requested a tower move my vehicle to a spot where I could make a few call to work out my options. Very professional.
Took about an hour to get all the insurance questions answered and eventually tow to a shop where my insurance company suggested I get the work done.

The accident was my fault and I was somewhat freaked out by tow companies hard sell but the CPD gave me time to process my options and even gave me a bottle of water to boot.

Let me get this straight. If your CPD or a family member you should be able to block lanes of traffic on busy streets in the suburbs until a tow shows up 45 minutes later from the motor club? Get real or ask the cop to help you push it into a parking lot like I've done 1,000 times. Other than that pay the tow like everyone else does when they visit the city and don't feed the meter every 30 minutes.

I work at MSF and I happen to know the reason why the po was chasing the suspect had NOTHING to do with 1811. Weed was not even found on the offender. A large knife was found. Offender had several investigative alerts for serious crimes.
For the record though, I want to be present when you tell the po to his face that you hope he learned a lesson? God Bless you MT. Don't you dare come back to soon! Enjoy the Holidays with your family.

This is the tow victim. I am responding to a few things that my father may have left out. Yes, I had a cell phone. Yes, I told him not to tow my car to their yard because I was half a mile or so away from my home. And he refused to listen, while the Summit p.o sat in his car the entire time, at which I wasn't allowed before to walk up to his truck to ask him anything. I had some questions but was told to stay in my car. I thought it was odd, and I tried calling my family but it was late, and they were probably asleep. I go throught the Summit side in order to get home, seeing Summit/Chicago are seperated by the train tracks on 63rd st. My bf arrived to stay with me and offered the tow guy 80$ and offered to run to an atm and get the extra 20$ if he waited a few minutes, and then the tow guy refused and stated if 100$ wasn't given right then and there then my cars' goin to the yard, period. I was pissed. And my insurance doesn't exactly help either, because before when I needed a tow I waited for 4 hours for them to come get me and kept being told a truck was on it's way,and then the 6th time i called they said there's no avail. trucks. So in this situtation,it IS a lesson learned. Thanx

You need to get your facts straight concerning MT's injury? 1811 wasn't the reason why he chased him. He isn't a 3yr wonder. He fell 12ft after chasing an offender. here's the thing: even after he fell, he still got up and with assisting officers took the offender to the ground and arrested him. I don't know too many po's out there that could stand let alone help take down a dude after a fall like that? And yes, he was taken to ER for his heart.
MT has been on 9 years. Didn't know he worked in 009? He came to MSF from 006. He never served in Iraq. His time was in afganistan. He's tough, so I am hopfeul he will return to us at MSF. If not, it was an honor working with him in Unit 153.

Take care of you like trying at all costs to schmooze the mayor in to contracting the Police Reserve to become the park district police?
How is it that several CPD Officers can be ACTIVE MANAGEMENT of this organization and still work for Chicago? Conflict of Interest? Is THAT what you mean by "take care of you"????

This is the other side of the story in regard to the CPD family member being a victim in Summit. First, it was around 4AM which is prime time for drunk drivers on the roads with all of the 4 o'clock bars in the area. Upon seeing the disabled vehicle with it's emergency flashers barely visible, I pulled behind it and activated my emergency lights. I exited my squad and walked up to the drivers side and observed the windows all fogged up. Unable to see inside, I knocked on the window and and a few seconds later a young lady on a cell phone opened the door, I asked if she needed some help and she stated that her boyfriend was on the way. I said I could push her off the roadway as all of our squads have pushbumpers but she again stated that her boyfriend was on the way. I advised that she was in a very bad spot and did she want me to call a tow truck. She stated yes but could they tow the vehicle somewhere on 63rd Street. I stated that it's a private agency but I did not see a problem with that especially that it was 4AM and they probably weren't too busy. A tow was called per the drivers request and she went back on her cell phone and sat in her car. Never once did she say anything regarding her family being CPD but it did not matter, I just didn't want her to get hit. A short time later the tow truck arrived as did her boyfriend. They all talked back and forth and never did anyone tell me there was any type of problem.

I have been employed with the village for over 21 years and more times than I can count have given professional courtesy to CPD, family members, as well as other other agencies including FD. I have a number of friends with CPD so for anyone to make some of the comments that were made without hearing both sides of the story is just plain wrong.

As far as the tow company, I do know the owners and like any business they can not keep everyone happy. I have never had a problem with them and never heard of some scam going on. There are 2 tow companies presently contracted with the village but we as the police have no say so in anything that has to do with it.
