Tickets up, but revenue down?
- Money collected from Chicago parking tickets is down ... way down.
Revenue dropped nearly $4 million this summer compared to the same time last year.
That's interesting especially considering that city officials say they handed out 12,000 more tickets this summer.
Last week, the Web site theexpiredmeter.com reported the city has started booting cars with more than two unpaid tickets in an attempt to collect some of that money.

I have not written a ticket for parking meter violation since our contract expired and now I will never write one again. They can park where they want on my beat, the citizens are in no danger of getting tickets from me. Now dept of revenue is another story.
Has anyone checked out the possibility that the aldergoofs have keys for the payment boxes & are funneling the money to dickie-boy as political contributions ? Could this be daley's version of the "skim". It was profitible for dem guz in Vegas with da Casinos.
The most intersting part of the Meter Mania is the dollars that are now being reported by the Chicago version of the NYT/Chicago News Co-Operative. This story was covered last evening on Chicago Tonight and NBC Non-News last evening.
Daley accepted a lot of money for the meters and it is now being reported that he will have spent it all (or the bulk of it) by the end of 2011.
The city made $24 mil in 2008 with their 36,000 meters. The company will make $32 mil this year, $75 mil for 2010 and should recoup their investment in less than 20 years and make double their investment.
Daley is a financial pinhead. And the 45 Alderpunks, that voted for this financial travesty, need to lose their jobs. Waguespack for Mayor!
