Police Shooting

  • Chicago police shot and critically wounded a man tonight in the city's Ravenswood neighborhood.

No officers were injured in the shooting around 9:30 p.m. in the 5100 block of North Leavitt Avenue, police said.

Officer responded to a report of a man with a knife and shot the suspect, reportedly a man in his 30s, police spokesman [...] said. [Police spokesman] didn't know if a knife was recovered at the scene.

We don't know about you, but we always look for the "No officers were injured" line first. Good job Officers.

According to the Cook County medical examiner's office the man was in his 30s and he was pronounced dead at 10:06 p.m. at Illinois Masonic Hospital.

No remedial firearms training needed.

Great job by the officers. One of whom worked for me in the past.
Officers, remember the 21 foot rule.
Studies have shown that a guy with a knife who is 21 feet away from you will get to you before you are able to get your gun out of your holster.

Great Job Officers. I’m glad you are ok.
As I watch the news and read print on the event, I must admit there is a need to express my observation. If officers had been trained and authorized to carry TAZERS, This could have and most likely would have not resulted in a deadly force incident. The bad guy was taking an action which caused proper reaction by the officers, however, if we had alternate tools such as a tazer, we might not need to expose ourselves to the stress of such an outcome, and another family would not be in line for the natural course of suing the city in an attempt to argue wrongful death. Shame on you city of shitcago for not giving us those tools!!!

In a perfect world the about statement could be true. But when someone brings a large knife towards a police officer, are you willing to bet your life on the taser? I the taser going to stop the bad guy? I wont bet my life on that.

Our plan for the night is to go home as we came to work. ALIVE

A guy attacking you with a knife is not the time you want to depend on a Taser.

Its a pretty good compliance tool, but its nowhere near as sure a stopper as a couple slugs COM. And if a guy is coming at you with a knife and you try to Taser him and it fails, you won't have time to stop him with a more effective weapon before getting yourself sliced and diced.

Screw tasers, what did they teach you back in the academy? Shoot to kill! This pinhead got what he deserved! A knife is a deadly weapon, the officers gun worked fine thank you. Great job guys.
