Class Acts

Here are some guys who get it:
  • There were a couple of class acts out on Christmas Eve. Rabbi Wolf and Father Nangle visited some Districts, at least on the north side, on the 3rd and first watches. May God Bless both of them for their commitment to the "real police".
We got scolded in some of the comments yesterday for sowing discord during the holiday.

The holiday handshaking was always a precursor to going home early at HQ. Why it's a matter for publicity now is beyond our comprehension. Frank Main got tipped off by someone about this - part of J-Fed's image rehabilitation? - but it must have been a damn slow news day.

And as HQ was pretty much devoid of civilians (Christmas Eve service cut day) and HQ would be 99.9% empty on Christmas Day, this was pretty much nothing but a photo op of some sort. How about something for the guys and gals who WEREN'T going to be at home enjoying presents, dinner and time with their families? We guess someone was afraid that the great unwashed masses wouldn't have stood still for this crap. Fortunately, Father Nangle and Rabbi Wolf don't have that problem.

This probably doesn't mean shit to most but while working Thanksgiving Day Father Nangle road on one of our jobs regarding a ghetto mother and her 18 year old son who she thought she still had world control over, but was bared from her building because of gang activity, and she could not understand why he was still not given entrance to said building. Regardless words where exchanged and mama was proven wrong and baby boy was sent on his way to eat turkey with his "stone" buddies. Father Nangle provided support to me and my partner and praised us later for our service even though he new we had to MF mom and gang banger son to get the job done peacefully. Very nice man and police supporter. Thanks Father!!!

Those 2 REAL REVERENDS are the ones that J-pussy won´t hang out with. There is no political mileage to be gained by making good with CPD reverends. However sadly.... NO reverends will be able to save his ass where he is going for what he did to Bill Cozzi. And every cop should be working accordingly until he is free.

Captain Buslik was a class act, too, on Christmas, even though it's not 'his' holiday.

He made sure we had good food and coffee before we hit the street and it went a long way toward making having to leave our families on Christmas a lot more tolerable.

Good boss. Thank you, sir.

MOshe and Nangle are staples of this Department.
Nothing is better when you are on the street and that Giant gives you one of his MOSHE bear hugs.
You gotta love it. And Nangle always has a story....if you are from a Police family he will tell you a story about your dad that happened 20+ years ago. Always makes you feel good.

Thanks guys for your dedication and love.

and...written like Moshe:

May G-d Bless You

You won't find 2 more genuine men of God in the world. For someone to take time out of his day to stop in and support our troops, sends such a message of strength and family that the bosses don't seem to understand. It's moments like this that remind us that we are PEACE officers and that can be a messy business.

Father Nangle once showed up to a officer involved shooting I responded to. He gave more of a shit about the two blue shirts involved than 99% if the white shirts on scene. He really is a class act!

I'm sure the good rabbi is right along there with him, I just never had the pleasure of meeting him.

Father Nangle wrote a great article in the last FOP bulletin. He supports Bill Cozzi, which says all.

He has also helped and listened to me when I was going through tough times. I don't know how he does it. I hear Rabbi Wolf is a great man as well.

Rabbi Wolfe and Father Nangle have taken the time to prove their support of CPD Officers both in word and deed. I appreciate this. I also appreciate my Commander and W/C doing so. What I find interesting about this topic is the level of disdain directed toward officers who work inside.

For those who blanket all officers that work at HQ or at any inside post, your comments are understandable because of the abuse of some. Still, the presuppositions in these comments are that any officer working inside is:
a) not on our side,
b) must be on the side of the enemy,
c) has no institutional knowledge or experience of police work in this city,
d) is a "sell-out" out only for themselves with little care or concern about the department or other officers.
e) obviously is a kiss ass to the bosses, which additionally assumes that each officer working an administrative spot interacts with upper command staff daily on an buddy level.
f) that all inside officers are somehow more privileged than an officer working in the field.

If this is true in all cases then it says more about this department's values and beliefs over its 170+ years. Then we were broken through infighting long before any Superintendent was assigned a job to lead us. If true then all officers should be judged by the actions of the minority who bring disgrace upon us? We cannot ask that people not judge us in this way if we practice it amongst our own.

If true then this means we would rather have civilians handling ALL police related functions that are not street-level? Civilians handling our investigations, writing our general orders, interpreting our contractual rights, deciding what information on us is released or not released to outside entities, processing criminal records, registering sexual offenders, directing our daily duties, etc.?

Unfortunately this action will never heal the infighting we as a department are saturated with. I understand our anger at many issues, our contract being one of them, however its sad that we turn so easily on each other at the merest hint or allegation of unequal treatment, especially when our fellow officers are not the architect of such. Striving for equality and fairness is an admirable trait particularly when based on intelligent knowledge rather than by blindly reacting in a mob mentality following posts designed to incense.

Unfortunately no matter if the entire administration of the CPD was civilianized, those given preferential assignments will still be so. They will not abdicate their "rights" to their positions nor will their sponsors. Those officers who would have made a difference in our favor, in whatever ways they could, would not be there to act in that capacity. Perhaps that is what we need, to be rendered subservient only to those with selfish intention. I see many officers who truly do not bring anything to the table in the furtherance of our goals as a major city police department. I see many officers with no experience or intelligence working in positions that they should not be. That is truly a slap in the face of every officer who is qualified and would be a better choice. I see many officers who have less time on the job in actual field experience contributing to decisions that affect us. Yes it is disheartening. Still there are some people I know that work inside who have assisted me in ways that the aforementioned dilettantes could or would not.

Our lassitude has caused us to lose our professional objectivity. We are a very professional organization, I believe. It may be that those in power, whom do not act our best interest, delight at our betrayals. We can look to ourselves in satiating them. Our time would be better spent rooting out the practice of inequality while preserving the things and people that are working on our behalf. Of course that would take a unified front. One day we may just achieve that. Until then, das ist ein traurigesm aber spannendes Spiel.

I once had a CPD PO die on duty. He was taken to a hospital in Hammond. Nangle was called, but couldn't make it out there. I've never seen him south of Pershing Road.

Rabbi Wolf, on the other hand, is a class act.

Rev. Kevin Dean was always there for us too.

Rabbi Wolf is a class act. He is always giving candy to any officer he sees. I'm a cop in the burbs, and was injured in the line of duty a while back and he came to the hospital everyday, and called me once a week when I was released from the hospital. Best yet he once showed up to a crime scene with coffee in on the coldest day in January a couple of years back. Always looks out for the men and women in blue.

Father Nangle and Rabbi Wolf are both great! Fr. Nangle has baptized 2 of my kids after the "church" started giving us a "lets check your dedication" run-around. Fr. Nangle always has a nice comment about my father who retired in '96 and died in '08. The Rabbi always comes out to say hello and bless everyone at the A/4 Memorial bike run. Both are class acts.

Was assigned to Area 4 Homicide(Maxwell St) over 40 years ago. Saw Tom Nangle numerous times out on those streets. As far as the south side, ask the old tact men from the old Gresham Dist. if they ever saw Tom Nangle. Don't know Rabbi Wolf but hear nothing but good things. His writings in the newsletter really touch home. Give these two good men a break. Nangle is probably pushing 70 years of age and he and the good rabbi are still out there caring for our sorry asses.
