Six Shot In Englewood

  • Six people leaving an Englewood nightclub were wounded during a Sunday night gang-related shooting on the South Side.

Police said a group of adults leaving a nightclub were traveling in a van in the 6500 block of South Damen Avenue when another vehicle approached and somebody inside opened fire, striking six adults in the van.
The Sun Times article has maybe six comments total.

Now how about this one?
  • An off-duty Lockport police officer was charged tonight with reckless homicide and drunk-driving charges in connection with a three-car crash that killed an immigrant from Vietnam who was driving home on the Stevenson Expressway from his second job.
The BreakingNews article has almost 60 comments and the Sun Times version has six pages of comments. Guess which direction they are all headed? Even we had to delete half-a-dozen comments that attempted to blame the Chicago Police Department for this latest DUI incident.

We have no use for anyone who drinks, drives and kills. Long time readers are aware of articles we've written berating those who make bad decisions. But we believe everyone is entitled to due process, even the police.

But wait, the corrupt madman now wants to put free internet access in these "underserved neighborhoods." Paid for by whom? Why city workers of course, who are being forced to take up to 24 unpaid days off next year!

And this "free" internet access is being provided only to legally documented US Citizens, right? By The Vanecko & Davis Internet Company most likely.

The cop haters are always looking for a reason to post somewhere.

I suggest ignoring it much of the time. If you wanted to be well liked you should have become a fireman.

Here's something real easy to for anyone who has a half a brain to understand.

Each and every individual cop is not responsible for whatever some other cop does.

If some uniformed idiot pulls his weapon in a snowball fight in Philly I'm not too blame.

If some suburban cop gets in an alcohol related accident I'm not to blame.

If a member of the CPD gets into a barroom brawl I'm not to blame.

If a cop sells out to organized crime I'm not to blame.

Now if I did anything of those things then I would be to blame.

There are theoretically 12,000+ Chicago Police. Most of whom are average, decent folks just trying to get through the day.

In that group of 12,000+ are a good (or bad) number of assholes, addicts, drunks, lazy, corrupt, unnecessarily brutal shitbags. Some of whom we call exempts. One of whom we may call "Superintendent". He certainly qualified for the term "asshole".

I don't want to be judged for anything I didn't do.

I try and sometimes fail to judge people as individuals.

I expect the same attempt from others regarding me.

As for drinking and driving I have no tolerance for it. I'd arrest my own brother if I caught him doing it.

I've done my share of stupid shit in my life, but I never drove drunk.

I've walked drunk.

I've bicycled drunk.

I've woken up next to some ugly women after a night of drinking and tried to gnaw my arm off to escape undetected, but I ain't NEVER driven drunk.

This public service announcement brought to you by someone who needs a drink before he goes to sleep tonight because he just remembered some of his youthful "exploits".

What's also not surprising about the six assholes shot in Englewood is that not one of the bastards died as a result of multiple GSW's.

I guess when you have no stress or responsibilities, being shot full of holes isn't that big a deal. Get patched up for free, courtesy of the taxpayers, then go on disability/SSI and spend your remaining years living off the fat of the land even more than you were prior to being shot.

I know that this is way off subject, but something I believe worthy of mention.

I asked that all who read this, do the following.

PLEASE, keep a watchful eye over your brothers and sisters during this holiday season. Although this is a season in which we celebrate the life of our savior, it can also be a very dark time for those of us who have lost our friends, loved ones, and may feel lonely, abandoned, and/or hopeless.

Mind their business:

If you notice a change in a co-worker/friend/loved one's behavior, don't be afraid to ask them how they are doing. Ask particular questions such as, "I see you look great, but how is your heart/spirit?" Don't allow them to be alone, and get them the help that they need.

We must be pillars of strength for our FAMILY now, and always.

God bless you all, and have a blessed holiday season.

Ofc. Clay

• A Kelly High School teacher was fired after a hearing officer did not buy her claims that she killed her estranged husband in self-defense in 2007. Although the teacher said she shot her husband three times in the chest during a heated altercation in which she feared for her life, Sullivan said his investigation determined the shooting was not in self-defense, and a hearing officer agreed. The teacher has not been criminally charged.

Can we hire the investigators to work for the CPD or ASA? Maybe turn their investigation over to the detective Division? Superintendent, are you reading this? We know you've re-opened other cases and taken another look, where people have ended up going to jail (Cozzi). If they can figure it out why can't the police? Who do we have working in our public schools anyway? Maybe she was teaching the students a thing or two on how to commit murder, the right way. No wonder the CPS is in such shambles.

I know the victim's family is in pain, but the one young woman responsible for the aforementioned comment, is also not happy with the length of time between the incident and the DUI's court appearance.

The DUI was in court within 36 hours of the incident, and with a broken pelvis. The ISP did a heckuva job in putting it all together, under very trying circumstances.

The family should put a muzzle on the one family spokeswoman who cannot resist the camera and talk her nonesense. Her dislike of the police is more evident than her sorrow for losing the deceased family member.

The uniformed officer was the responding officer to the call of the off duty M1, man with a gun, who was driving his H2 Hummer that was hit with a snowbal. People called the police not knowing the off duty p/o was a cop. Alcohol related traffic offenses are equal opportunity. I've had priests, doctors, cops, judges, teachers and even an ASA (and the 911 caller was an off duty Evanston PD commander).

My most memorable, though, is a gang banger named Will. I think I personally dealt with every member of his family. Will got tanked up, drove without a license and wrapped it around a tree killing his brother. He came into court and immediately demanded to plead guilty, crying that he killed his brother. I have seldom seem remorse like this.

My mother was severely crippled and her husband killed by a drunk driver in broad daylight (4:30 p.m.). He left his trucking company, made a liquid lunch sales call and was en route to his factory when his Jag crossed the median -- 75mph in a 45 zone at impact.

I've been the designated driver at many a cop party and have no problem with professional courtesy as long as either the public safety isn't threatened or the badge isn't being disgraced. Drive drunk and you will get no sympathy here.

Regarding the incident in DC, I've been watching it develop in the media and internet from the beginning.

The off-duty detective has almost 30 years on, and has already been judged by chief Lanier.

The detective is guilty, more than anything, of having a complex and poor judgement. 300 yuppies in a gentrifying neighborhood throwing very soft snow at your car and each other does not warrant pulling your piece on the crowd.

The uniform CLEARLY was right to approach with his weapon drawn. He is walking up in a strong snowstorm, in a crowd, on a large uniformed male pointed-to by numerous people in the crowd as the problem, and on a man-with-gun call of course. There is absolutely no way the uniform officer did anything wrong.

The off-duty dick on the other hand probably could use a reprimand for poor judgement. That crowd is exactly the crowd that most DC police have wished they could run into for the last 30 years.

And, on another note, DC has only had 1 homicide so far in December. Down 30% year over year to date. I have no idea why murders are dropping, but its happening everywhere!

"Six Shot In Englewood"
---

This was such a regular occurrence on the west side that I remember one stretch of W. Chicago Ave, 3600-3800 West, that looked like a Special Olympics wheelchair race in the summer.

There were so many regular and motorized wheelchairs filled with teenage and 20 something M/1's who were obvious GSW victims. There was a small fortune in guvment' bought wheelchairs rolling around and all the wounded players up and down the avenue out for a roll doing their thing.

The insane absurdity of that scene is so typical of the west side.

And, if a police district is not specifically taken, it goes to the taken district with the closest geographical point to the incident, as determined by travel distance on city streets, no alleys, to that point from the address of occurrence.

In the need of a tie-breaker, distance will be measured from the closest corner of the property at the address of occurrence to the closest geographical point in the taken district, thereby mandating, if circumstances are such, that distance could be measured from different corners of the property at the address of occurrence, depending on the identity of the taken districts. District beat boundaries determine the closest geographical point.
