Armed Offender Shot
A Chicago police officer shot a man early this morning who authorities said pointed a gun at the officer as he was chasing the suspect in connection with a nearby shooting.
No officers were hurt during the police-involved shooting, which happened about 12:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Karlov Avenue on the Northwest Side.
That vehicle stopped, two men got out and ran, police said.The officer gave chase. During the pursuit, one of the suspects turned and pointed a gun in the officer's direction, police said, and the officer shot him. The suspect was taken to an area hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
His gun was also confiscated.
The suspects were fleeing a shooting that left two people wounded at a gas station at Armitage and Pulaski, not long before their encounter with the officer, police said. Their conditions were not available either. No charges have been filed.
Gee, no "a gun was recovered at the scene"? We're all the way up to "confiscated." Maybe that meeting with the media actually meant something?

Nice job Officers! Never violate Rule #1; go home safe at the end of your shift. Rule #2; never second guess yourself. If you are presented with a threat you deal with it. Remember, him or me. The only viable option is HIM. Anything less would violate Rule #1.

His gun was confiscated and not "recovered from the scene" because someone else (not the police) was shot.

'His gun' is conclusory, taking as fact that it belonged to the offender. I'm surprised the media wrote it that way. Good for them, but I suspect it was an error that snuck past the editor. That said gun was in fact the bad guy's gun was always the presumption I made when reading "a gun was recovered at the scene." I think most people with half a brain presume that to be the case as well. To me 'confiscated' is troubling language. It sounds as though the bad guy was in lawful possession of the gun and it's been 'confiscated' until further notice. 'Recovered' is better. Evidence is 'recovered.' Unauthorized beverages are 'confiscated' upon entering a sports venue. Sorry to go all word nerd, but I'd temper the celebration. To me it reads as one step forward, one step back. And I suspect that step forward was done in error.
I am glad he made it out ok. It's a dangerous situation to run after someone while they may turn around and try to kill you with a gun. In the end, the good guy went home and the bad guy didn't.

Whoa... the police officer was a guest speaker in the classroom and asked for students to volunteer to get tasered... Jr High kids ages 11 -13 years old. The po tasered the kids and the paramedics had to be called because one of the kids had a heart condition and asthma...

I don't normally encourage contacting the unions or politicians, but I agree with this post.
Maybe if we demand Weis, our unions and maybe our politicians go to bat for us on this, they will.
Gosh, where is a terrorism expert when you need one? Oh, wait; isn't there a $300,000+/yr expert sitting at 3510, just waiting to jump into action on criminals like this one?

He was part of crew of 9-12 year olds that targeted older hispanic victims in 2535's beat, the crew all had tattoos at that age, as well as "proud parents." well it APPEARS now that Mr Douglas(Yusef) has taken an IP address and reported it to Chicago Police for get this terroristic threats.It APPEARS that Mr Douglas labels all white people that dont agree with his twisted spew a "terrorist".
