Lover Boy Suspended
Shortshanks has to look like he's doing something in the face of continuing scandal and falling approval ratings:
A high-ranking city commissioner was suspended today for three months without pay after the Chicago Sun-Times revealed his department paid more than $11 million to a business owner who had previously pleaded guilty to ripping off the city.
Fleet Management Commissioner Michael Picardi was called on the carpet in a face-to-face meeting with Mayor Daley today.
But nobody was aware of the fraud conviction? Bullshit. Szybkowski got the contract for keeping his mouth shut, plain and simple. Any student of Chicago history could rattle off numerous instances of people getting caught doing wrong, serving their time in prison, getting a second or third chance to make amends in some city department or another, and being exposed at some point when the media discovered its balls. Daley has even gone on record defending these second chances when confronted - his old man did the same thing.
If you read the Sun Times article closely, it makes no mention of ending the contract. The Tribune only says the mayor will "try to cut ties" with Central Auto Body. we aren't holding our breath on that count - a contract is a contract after all and Szybkowski didn't violate any existing rules.

While Piccardi may just be another Political hack, keep in mind he just got put (back) in the driver's seat. The contract has been ongoing for more years than he's had control of the department. Ask any copper in 014 or 025...the shop sits right next to the gas station on the border of those two districts.
This is no difference than Paul Volpe being thrown on the tracks for the parking meter debacle.
Rest assured, Daley has no shortage of fall guys (or the swords that they are asked to impale themselves upon).

BUD RUEL! a mayoral insider and iron worker boss who was in tight with daley who did time for him and kept his mouth shut. now, buddy ruel who ive worked with but is a great guy was taken care of by daley for his plea... The city can cancel a contract in an instant and tell the vendor to "go ahead and sue, we dare you." They have done it many times before. That is if the person is not a connected guy or connected to a connected guy.
Suspended for three months, big fucking deal, you won't see Picardi's head roll. He likely will just go to Florida for a while, if he isn't there aleady.
Connected guys just don't get launched that easily, especially not italian guys in streets & san and fleet who run the department.

You just won't see his face around for awhile. But will he still collect his regular paycheck? Or will he be paid out of some obscure fund out of City Hall for "Miscellaneous Expenditures" or maybe from one of the mayor's famous TIF funds?
Either way, it appears Mr. Picardi has a bright future with the Daley Crime Family!

All contracts come from Procurement with a reccomendation AFTER a review by the Law Dept. There should be several bodies under the bus on this one. Who are they REALLY covering for? Where's the "accountability" now. More smoke and mirrors.

Be advised that the department of fleet management has many felon employee's from street gang members to traditional OC associates. That is the reason that we fought so hard to resist Picardi's take over of the police garages and EMMD. We knew that if he took over our operation these felons would have access to lists of confidential car descriptions, the number of cars assigned to any unit, have access to our radios, and other information that would be interesting and helpful to criminals. Make no mistake about it this current scandal at fleet is just the tip of the iceberg. The current condition at the police end of fleet management is a direct result of "lover boys" incompetence.

What about robert sorich,john harris sorich went to prsion to protect the daley crime family,and dumb old johnny harris will do the same! Why people would turn on their families to save a pos criminal like daley is beyond reason! picardi will be just find,surely daley handed him a fat manilla envelope full of cash to help him with the bullshit 3 month suspension!

Yes, Mike Picardi, a true piece of shit who hates coppers, and lines his pockets at their expense. The mayor should investigate some of his other contracts in the purchasing of vehicles, hime and his boy Eddie E, regularly shake down dealers and vendors doing business with the city, for their owm personal gain, and to fund luncheons for his employees. When he is not busy stealing he is knocking up one of the mayors aides. Hopefully this will be the beginnig of the end for him. When the SWORN ran EMMD this body shop was almost put out of business for poor quality work. At fleet the motto is money talks and bullshit (safety) walks.

Listen , this guy John that owns the body shop is a stand up guy, he took the heat for the 11th ward boys in 1980, the boys from Chinatown all had jobs t 51st Garage, Tony Doyle AKA TWAN, not his real name was caught up in that scandle, he was Italian surname back then, Then all of a sudden he's a cop, This body shop was in the news then and was called Central Auto , it still is and now after its survived thisa long, Daley is appalled, that POS knows everything. Another body shop, Jimmie D's on 42nd & Westerndoes lots of city work, they all contribute by buying Tables at parties and making political donations. If I could, I would love to have that contract, the way we tear up cars. But I bet you guys will ever top this next thing. Daley shit a brick awhile back when he saw a marked car downtown with paint peeling off of a bumper. He flipped out and now when you take your car into any garage for service and if that car has any damage to the bumpers, they down it, send it to Central Auto or Jimmy D's and get the bumpers fixed to the sum of approximately $900.00. Im not kidding, Area 4 garage is leading the pack. they are doing this to cars that are pieces of junk , and not spending wisely.
