Range Rumor

Anyone from the Training Division care to elaborate?
  • Heard that the range is going to be about 1.2 million rounds short on ammo this year.
Seems that the city decided that we could do with less.
The academy range put 1.5 million rounds of ammo in the annual budget(same as they have for the past several years).
City Hall decided to cut that down to 300,000 rounds of ammo!
    Good luck qualifying in 2010!
300,000 divided by 10,000 sworn = 30 rounds per cop. Sounds like just enough to qualify everyone if we all do it on the first try!

Have they rescinded the 100 free training rounds order? And what are the 86 recruits going to fire for State qualifying? We seem to recall putting about 1,000 rounds through the gun during training - has that fallen by the wayside?

Lesson to the hair gel crowd. If you can shoot a perfect score, don't.

When you qualify you want to shoot just good enough, mediocre.

If and when you are in Federal court for a potentially questionable shooting you have grounds to stand on. If you are an ace shooter, you don't.

This applies to questionable shootings that are directly related to marksmanship and not circumstance.

Four departments prepare for workplace, school violence situations

* Police undergo 'active shooter' training

By Ken Kosky - ken.kosky@nwi.com, (219) 548-4354 | Posted: Saturday, February 13, 2010

UNION TOWNSHIP | Porter County Sheriff's Cpl. Jeremy Chavez followed the sounds of gunshots Friday morning at Wheeler High School, and finally came face to face with a bad guy who had a gun in one hand and a detonator for an explosive device in the other hand.

"We had to shoot him," Chavez said.

The encounter wasn't real -- but a training scenario designed to prepare local officers in case a shooting occurs at a workplace, school or other location.

Chavez -- one of 100 officers from Valparaiso, Hebron, Kouts and the Porter County authorities who underwent "active shooter" training Friday or who will undergo the training Monday at the school -- called the training beneficial.

If you want to take a nice ride and shoot at a great place for free. Willow Slough in Indiana just off of rt 41 is great. The range master there loves the police and it is very safe and clean. NO GANG BANGERS. I usually go a few times a year with my kids and I deduct the cost of ammo from my taxes. They have a pistol range, shotgun range and a 50 and 100 yard rifle ranges. you can stop at Cabelas on your way out there and pick up some cheap ammo also. I don't think most people know this but you can purchase rifles and shotguns in Indiana with your Illinois FOID but not pistols. You can also purchase ammo. There is also a Bass pro shop a little further up the highway if you want to go there. I realized a few years ago that when it comes to firearms training the city just does not care. I think the department does but they do not have any money to work with. You just have to do it on your own boys and girls. stay safe and return home to your family each night, and it does not hurt to teach your wife and kids how to shoot either. Remember they are home alone while you are at work. I feel sorry for the muther fucker who tries to get into my home while my wife and kids are there. A whole can of whip ass is in store for them.

Yes I heard that too from the old guys 10 + years ago. I'll tell you the same thing now I told them then. It is much, much easier shooting a piece of paper that has no intent on harming you than it is a person who means to kill you and can move. Most of the old timers who went around making the statement about not trying your best on the range for "court" reasons were blow hearts themselves and couldn't shoot the broad side of a barn anyway.

To any copper whose shooting comes under question. Your defense is exactly what I typed, no comparison of the two situations... low stressed controlled environment vs high stressed ever changing environment.

Hey 12:45, I don't understand the rationale of intentionally shooting a mediocre score, in case you are involved in a lawsuit. It seems like it would be pretty easy to produce an expert to discuss the difference between yearly qualification and firing under combat stress, and how that could reduce accuracy.

So the preferable grounds to stand on is that you are already a crappy shooter who can barely hit the target while not under stress? It seems like this would make it much easier for a defense attorney to paint you as a nit wit who shouldn't even have a gun in the first place.

I dont understand the, "this is related to questionable shootings related to marksmanship and not circumstance...," aren't all shootings inherently related to circumstance. Please elaborate.

Makes sense, why would a civilian clout fuck who sucks daley's asshole clean see any need for a police department to have ammunition to train?

If anyone gets in any shaky shootings this year be sure to document the department's lack of ammunition for training and qualification in a statement.

In addition, be sure to make a statement that your training records have been falsified, as almost everyone's has. You know damn well everyone hasn't been trained on all the bullshit in those training records. Front offices mark everyone on the roaster as trained according to the streaming video schedule whether they were present or not.

OT--Daley raises taxes over 40%!!

Shortshanks will now make us pay for our own raises by jacking up our assessed valuations by 40+%!! My home value has gone down A LOT during the last few years due to this recession, but King Richie's boy at the Assessors office, Jimmy Houlihan, now says that in 2009 (during the worst of the recession) my home value increased to 140% of what it was just a year earlier in 2008. If that is true, then let the little prick buy if off me and let me move to the suburbs!

Daley doesn't have to raise tax RATES to raise TAXES. By saying my house is now worth 40% more than last year, he just raised my property takes by 40%!

He just swore he wouldn't raise taxes until AFTER he is reelected next year, but he's raising mine by 40%. Please, Dear West Side Reverends, find someone who doesn't say, "Fuck the Police!" ten times a day, to run against the stuttering prick. I'll vote for them.

Hey, can't you see what happening? They're offering taser training to P.O.s. You won't need ammo because JFed will arm everyoe with a taser instead. No guns, no kills, no lawsuits...a win for everyone in the city...except for the cop who is killed in the line of duty because of no ammo to train with. I'm sure you all agree that we should be qualifying 3 times per year and the 4th time should be a day long tactical firearms course: shooting in low light, on the move, multiple targets, shoot/don't shoot scenarios, etc.

So if the department order says we are to have 100 rounds and when I try to get them and am told I can't, who do I make the CR# against? The range guy, he's sgt, JFED, O'Keefe? One of them violated the order. Or do you call an inspector? I know it won't go anywhere but it will tie them up for a while. The FOP should be telling us to do this. Just like the city always fucks with us.

On the plus side we won't have back problems when we get older from carrying extra weight from the handgun if we all have blow guns. That was too funny.

Police make marijuana arrest near South Side school
February 12, 2010 9:34 PM | No Comments
Deering District tactical officers today arrested a man and confiscated marijuana worth about $5,500 near a South Side high school.

Police served a search warrant in a basement apartment in the 700 block of West 47th Street about 10 a.m. and arrested resident Arturo Espinoza, 57, according to the Office of News Affairs.

Officers found several bags of cannabis worth about $5,500, a scale, packaging materials and more than $6,500 in cash, police said.

Espinoza was charged with three felony counts of Possession of Cannabis, one felony count of Manufacture/Deliver of Cannabis, and two misdemeanor counts of Possession of Cannabis, according to police.

"The target building is literally in the shadows of Tilden High School," Deering District Commander David Jarmusz said in a news release.

Espinoza is scheduled to appear in Central Bond Court on Saturday.

If the Aldermen can carry guns, do they have to qualify? Who pays for their ammo?

I'm just askin'.

The cost of ammo has skyrocketed thanks to the Messiah Obama who stopped the military from allowing it's spent ammo to be reloaded in the civilian market. Now all that spent brass is shredded.

That and shooters everywhere are rightfully afraid that this goof and his minions will make all ammunition impossible to get FOR EVERYONE EVERYWHERE.

Hillary Clinton is working on a United Nations Treaty that she and Obama and Daley hopes will circumvent the 2nd Amendment by banning private small arms ownership worldwide. If this happens the Area Gun Teams would be sent into every home in the city to scoop up every firearm of every type that every law abiding citizen owns. This is just like they did in England and the other British Commonwealth Countries.

Take a look at this friends:

Me and some of the guys on my team have tried calling the Academy range several times with no answer, so one day we went down there and found out that nobody was even able to answer the phone because they are working shorthanded because of "operation protect youth", I asked when a good time would be to come down and practice and they showed me their schedule. For those that dont know, they have about 100 recruits they are training now,and they are pretty much non stop busy. Their phone never stopped ringing while me and my partner were there. We were refered to the area's but then guess what, one range was I guess out at protect youth, the other range was down for repairs again. They are always helpful and cool to deal with, unlike when I came through the academy over 17 yrs. ago. Personally, I would not want the job they have, but I'm glad they are there. If it is true about the ammo shortage then that would just figure.

This is a direct reflection of the CPD administration, the Mayor and the depth and breadth of corruption in Chicago. Everybody in the inner circle got theirs, is getting theirs, wants theirs and no attention paid to basic safety of sworn officers or citizens.

If a private business were run this way they would cease to exist. There is no excuse for officers not having what they need to do their job safely or competently. No excuse whatsoever for government, which has a steady revenue stream (taxes) to not be able to fund whatever is needed and necessary.

I hope Daley and everyone who manipulated their way in to his good graces by selling their soul gets the shits for a month.

Make that six months.

What kind of training do the elite Daley and Burke body guards get???? I'm sure the general police population isn't privy to the same. Please ID all of these highly trained "body guards" and see what they get that the poor blue shirt is denied. That would be good investigative reporting.

how about sgt's
especially the ones in this elite unit of gang enforcement.
how about a qualification of lets say 10 box 1 felony arrest for a uuw. and/or narcotics arrest...
oh there goes half of them....
how about a min. of 100 felony arrest in a one year period.
there goes all of them...
if you are a worker there the only pat on the back you get is that overtime check...
screw daley and the city...;.
you can not even send your kids to public school, yet you pay the highest taxes for what???
oh the section 8 across the street from you. so they can send their kids to those public schools that 80% OF YOUR TAXES GO TO...

get rid of half these sgt's in the geu of ocd please....

and open it up...

look at the arrest history of some of these clowns that are there...
i understand long term investigations. but 1 felony over 6 weeks, and its from a street stop .... please..... get some workers that love to put bangers away... i understand its only for a short period, but atleast were having fun, watching them sit in prison....

Honestly, does it really matter. The CPD qualifies it's POs once a year, LAPD once month. Their course is much harder than ours is. The 30 round test we do now is a joke. The truly sad thing is how many POs fail it each year. I was at A3 to qualify when a female officer who was Wysinger's secretary came in to qualify with her revolver. They had her go in by herself since she was the only one with a revolver. She was in the center lane and somehow managed to shoot the side wall while qualifying. Needless to say she failed. As a side note, do you want this house mouse on the street with you?

A lot of depts. across the country use reloaded ammo (to the same specs as duty ammo) for training, which is much cheaper. Does CPD? Additionally as a way to raise money and help provide a public service, when Chicago loses to McDonald, the CPD ranges could be opened to the public several days a week, not only offering a safe place to shoot but could also offer basic safety classes, for a reasonable fee of course. A win-win situation, revenue and safety instruction. Too bad it would never fly with the fifth floor midget.

Good funny you made Amber. Sure, like a food drive. How about if I just go to the range with the last target I shot and go BANG, BANG BANG, reload, holster, draw, BANG BANG BANG.

Once upon a time I used to qualify by fiber optic cable. I'd call my friend, he would ask what score I wanted and I was qualified. By Sprint, his voice came through very clear. I always saved the city on ammo. I didn't use any. The old ways were good, it was a simpler time

Like a food drive, good Amber. Can I meet you for a soda or something?

Dry fire practice with snap caps is a good idea...you learn your trigger, where it breaks. Just dont have any live ammo in the room when you do this. Also practice tap-rack-bang drills with them. Its "tap" to seat the magazine, "Rack" the slide to reload the gun and bang. As Clint Smith says, "It will or it wont." If it wont, rip the mag out, rack the slide twice to clear it out.. Re-insert mag, rack again and it will. Watch him teach this on youtube. If you dont know how to clear a double feed, you really should watch Clints video. If you really want to practice, you can order 250 round bulk range packs online and have them delivered to someone in the burbs. I felt stupid paying $70 to shoot 100 rounds at a suburban range.

Most police are a lot smarter than to engage in such stupidity, especially in any place outside a major metropolitan area. In downstate Illinois, or in any other midwestern state, it would be a deathwish to participate.

Did you know that about 70% of your shooting errors can be corrected without firing a single round? You joke about snap caps but dry fire definitely helps, we all do it. And the crack about 100 rounds a day per instructor...we wish! We have to be good enough to be able to practice what we preach but we feel this pinch just like you. I've never denied anyone who walked on my range. If I was teaching a class, you might have to wait a few minutes but I'll get you out there, I promise. Hang in there, this sucks for everyone.
