Surprise! Shortshanks Unhappy

  • Mayor Daley warned Friday that Chicago would kiss its middle class goodbye by allowing teachers — or any other public employees — to live outside the city.

One day after the state Senate voted 40-to-7 to lift the residency requirement for teachers in the Chicago Public Schools, Daley lambasted the idea as the beginning of the end.

"Go to Detroit, St. Louis, the rest of ‘em. When they allow government employees to live outside the city, they lose all their middle-class," the mayor told reporters after a City Council meeting.

Shrtshanks discounts the entire auto industry collapsing in Detroit and the aircraft builders leaving St. Louis as primary motivators for the middle class to abandon those cities. Where there are no jobs, there will be no middle class. And as Chicago continues to lose its manufacturing base, decent paying jobs are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Combine that with the business-and-middle-class unfriendly tax rates, you can see why Chicago is caught in a Detroit-like death spiral.

Government jobs shouldn't be the only middle class jobs in a healthy economy. And in an economy like this one? It's a slow death sentence.

SCC,

You couldn't be anymore correct on this!

The only jobs that the USA is producing are government jobs. Our manufacturing and industry is all abroad in third world countries.

Until we bring manufacturing and industry back to the United States of America the downward spiral will continue unabated.

The failed Socialist "Big Government" experiment is a joke. I blame both parties for this sellout of our nation.

If he knew how to treat the middle class like his father did, this city would still be the greatest city in the country.

This lying pos actually expects the middle class to stay after the way he treats us.

Maybe if he didn't let his family and friends steal so many millions of tax payers money the city wouldn't be broke.

This pos should rot in hell for what he did to this once great city. He is a total lunatic.

Its simple , he kept pandering to the poor indigent and the by choice unempoyed people just to get the votes, but he kept shitting on the working class people for 20 years. The working class are tired of being raped with out even getting kissed first.

Rich stop your lies you know every thing that happens in this city becuase you are a lunatic and a controlling ego maniac. Your patented statement that i didn't know is a total lie and your mad because everyone else finally sees you for what you are. A LYING CHEATING THIEF.

If the city gave CPS employees a DRUG TEST, CPS would lose 40% of their employees

I totally agree with above poster. I am hard put to find anything actually made in America. Even our food sources now come from other countries. Check the labels on hamburger from Jewel or Dominicks. It comes from all over the world. Heaven help us figure out a source of disease if we eat tainted meat. The stores won't have a clue to where it came from.

Funny how Daley tries to rely on forcing city employees to stay in his corrption infested shithole while at the same time reverse layoff(ing) police & fire, laying off over a thousand middle class taxpaying CTA employees, threatening to lay off thousands of middle class taxpaying CPS teachers, and then jacking up the fines, fees and tax rates on everything else against those few city employees left in his shithole.

Everything Daley takes a personal shit on doesn't make a dent in his dying career in chicago. For every positive abuse of the suntimes he tries to get the stupid to believe in this city, there are 10 more financial, criminal and moral disasters being foist upon him.

House: No Public Money For Any Blagojevich Portrait
March 26, 2010 6:10 PM

SPRINGFIELD--House lawmakers who impeached Rod Blagojevich more than a year ago added some insult to the injury today when they voted against using public money to pay for a portrait of the indicted and ousted chief executive--in case anyone ever moves to add his image alongside his predecessors in the Capitol.

_________________________________

Hmmmm? Is Gov. Ryan's portrait there?

That gallery where those portraits are hanging must look like the lobby of a Post Office with the FBI's 10 Most Wanted posters all around !

Here's a thought ! Considering the integrity of our Governors, why not just use their intake photo from the Federal Bureau of Prisons as their official portrait?

Good luck in the suburbs boys and girls. First of all, nobody's going anywhere because we can't sell our houses if we wanted to. If you have school age kids the suburbs are great, unless of course their school district buses low income kids in(especially if they make that decision after you have moved in). And by the way, Will County taxes are 2.5 %. If you buy a $300,000 house your taxes are at least $7,500. Most suburban taxes in Cook County are far more than Chicago's. Where have all the project and section 8 people gone? To the suburbs with their massive apartment complexes, and no resources or clue on how to deal with them. If your kids are out of school and you're retired, you're paying for everyone else's kids to go to school. The grass is not always greener on the other side. But when you have a "the sky is falling and the world is about to come to an end" mentality, (as seems to be the common thread here) it's nice to dream. Quit beefn' and get back to work!

OT - I heard something interesting from a local businessman yesterday that is apparently some additional parts of Tommy Byrnes street sweeper realignment program.

This guy tells me that the city wants to start charging the businesses for sweeping their street, particularly in areas that have neighborhood festivals. Their logic is that those businesses, particularly ones like carry out restaurants, are the source of a lot of the trash being cleaned up to begin with, and should foot the bill for clean-up.

This looks like it may be another concept in the arsenal of the Daley administration's bid to stave off bankruptcy. First, privatize city services, and then force everyone else to pay for the services that are SUPPOSED TO BE PAID FOR through business licence fees and permits, taxes and the parking meter sale.

Of course, those clean-up fees will only be floated out there for fests mostly on the North side because Bud Billikin is an imaginary character anyway, so how can he pay for it?

And, by the way, does anyone think that maybe some short little dude in the Mayor's office might be thinking about selling the street cleaning business to Vanecko Street Cleaning, Inc.???

Daley you GOOF. You think this city is going to crumble if we all get residency struck down? Maybe meybe not. If residency ended next week, the housing market will dictate who goes and who stays. If you are so concerned about the health of the city, quit killing us with taxes. Try making this a place where businesses want to build and grow, like it was in years gone by. End the corruption, hire some police so the people who live here can feel secure. Quit looking for ways to take services away from the taxpayers, like this goofy street cleaning realignment. You need 17 more garbage truck drivers? HIRE THEM. Use the money that you were going to use for the olympics. Or slide some of the 60 million that you want to pay parents to walk their kids to school over to streets and san. Ease up on the flower pots and decorations for a while.

Do you watch the news Rich? Standard and Poors is lowering our bond rating. Basic knowledge of economics will tell you that that will raise the interest on any money that you have to borrow, which means that we all have to kick more of our tax money to meet the higher obligations. Add that to the money that I pay for buses I can't ride because of the crime on them, because there aren't enough police to properly patrol them. Add that to the money that I pay for schools that I can't send my kids to because they are really zoos where there is, with a few exceptions, no learning going on. I live in Mt. greenwood, so maybe I will send my kids to CHAS, oh no wait, neighborhood kids only get about 20% of the slots so the kids who have ruined schools in other neighborhoods can ride the bus over here.

Rich, if you think the biggest problem that you face is the potential for city workers to move out, then you are really more delusional than I previously thought.

Mr. Mayor, if you want to find the reason that this once great city is foundering, look in the mirror.

And make that mirror be in a barber shop. Your hair looks like shit.

Daley Inc. has stolen EVERYTHING there is to steal and there ain't much left. They figure It's ok to artificially prop up the property tax base on the backs of captive workers. They HAVE TO!

The "catered to constituency" (sanctuary city people, the LINK card holders, the mouth-breathing breeders, gang-banging shitheads and their supporters like the alder-fools, runnin'-dog rev'runs & steal-the-stank-off-dogshit politicos) isn't going to contribute SHIT but somebody HAS TO PAY FOR THEIR SHIT AND EXPECT NOTHING IN RETURN OTHER THAN SAYING,
"well, i do live in chicago?"

42 extra-short is certifiably insane! ANY other politician confronted with the above reality and is worth the ink on their paper would be doing a back-bend and kissing the asses of EVERY TAX PAYER every fuckin' day and would tell the "catered to constituency" & their supporters to kiss HIS ASS and the tax payers asses too!

If shorty was so fuckin' concerned about the middle class turning their backs on Chicago he would do everything to make this place an attractive, safe and affordable place for the middle class to live and raise a family!

This city is FUCKED-UP!

Cooked crime stats so as not to REALLY alarm and appall the sheeple...

Fudged graduation rates to hide how truly fucked-up public education is...

Constantly picking the pockets and shitting/pissing on the middle class, especially "the captives."

Taking a long leisurely shit on the Police Department and making sure both of our hands are tied so we can't even put up an umbrella.

(thanks to weis-hole & co. you'll confess with joy before your father, satan that you did all you could to ruin this job.)

But hey! Chicago (from 2400N. to 1800S. Lake Michigan to Clark St.) is sooooo clean and beautiful and safe!

Just wait until the districts in Area 3 are in a RAP when the burglary & stick-up crews from 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 011 and 015 start jumping off the Red Line and really start tearing the lining out of yuppie asses while every other able body is shipped off to where these dogs are from.

Fuck you and your fiscal mismanagement! You want the WORKERS to feel some pain and take furlough days?

You want to divorce the city from pension and medical obligations won by organized labor?

YOU FUCKED IT UP!

Nah, you're a coward and a bitch. Better to run a media campaign against "greedy union members" to get the civilian/sheeple shit-talkers going. ANYTHING other than admitting you're wholly responsible for the financial mess this city is in.

Could not have said it better myself. My family generation has lived in the city for the past 130 years through thick and thin. What is hard to fathom is how the police got to be the bad guys so quick with our department to be the last guys to be gotten a contract. What the hell did I do to deserve the treatment I get from both the city and the FOP? All I ever did was work hard at my job and pay my taxes. Everything took a 180 degree turn for the worse since 1990 on this job. I am leaving the city for good in April. I wanted to stick around for my grandkids but they will enjoy the flight to see grandma in Arizona. What a bunch of putzes that are in control.

I got a brilliant idea how about having a city where middle class people want to live, not are forced to live.

3/27/2010 05:18:00 AM What comes to mind is how GEORGE PULLMAN kept his workers in check with keeping all the workers in one area with all the subsidised housing and then raising the taxes sky high. History lesson 101

Shortshanks is responsible for the middle class leaving, he himself has privatized thousands of jobs, city workers. One example is the Custodial workers in the police station they use to be city workers, now they are Illegal workers working for the private company that shortshanks is receiving a kickback from.

Until the quality of life improves, no sane person will want to voluntarily live in certain parts of this city. The public school system is a joke. This is one reason many non government workers fled the city for the burbs. Would you really want your child to grow up in this city? Da'Mayor just doesn't get it. Holding us hostage here won't keep the city solvent. Good schools, thriving bussinesses and jobs for all is the only chance this or any other city has of attracting or keeping middle class residents.(The few of us that are left.)

Actually shortshanks is responsible for the middle class city worker leaving because he has privatized in order to receive kickbacks. For example the Custodial worker use to be under property management CPD. So now they are Illegal workers making less then minimum wages no benefits, being exploited by greedy Corporate America who is taking jobs away from Americans. Yet their contract cost the city more then it did when we had our own custodial worker.

By 2014, the city will discontinue the 55 and out retirement insurance. Anyone after that will be dumped into Obamacare. The city will save millions. Also, I was told that the 55 retirement insurance option was a ploy by the Mayor to shrink the size of the CPD. The mayor was quoted yesterday that pension reform is coming soon to city employees just like the state did. So all you that think ur protected because it doesn't effect police and fire think again. The pension gravytrain is over for all of us.

Weel, CTA employees have been able to live outside the city for years, Teachers did for years, but then they clamped down on them, and for years many many firemen lived openly outside the city with no punishment, once again the luck of the IRISH I suppose, but when a copper tried to make a better life for his family, BAM. he gets caught and fired, go figure, We will never be able to live outside of this fine city called CHICAGO.

As a former 60+ years "MIDDLE CLASS" resident of that once great city known as Chicago,I want to thank shortshanks for forcing me to live in another county. Thanks to you I am now surrounded by English speaking white people, the children around here (are you ready for this?)not only know who their father is,but the father actually "LIVES" in the same house as the kids, with a mother thrown in to boot! And the houses have only "ONE" family living in them.
I was forced to move my family 3
times while I lived in your city because your real estate pals and reverends made a pocketful of money destroying the neighborhoods I lived in.Now they are wastelands where YOU sink money into them because everyone is on welfare. My parish and parochial grade and high school are gone now. Their just billboards for the gang graffiti. My taxes are lower, the biggest crime in my town this past month was a DUI (was'nt me)and if it was'nt for certain family obligations I'd be out of this state.Sortshanks you've got the Midas touch in reverse, everything you touch turns to shit!
Retired and loving..............it

He, the others & their family/friends don't care because THEY still have their jobs, fringe benfits, etc.

Daley is so clueless that he stated no middle class people would want to live near Midway. Really? That's kind of ironic because many city workers have resided here since I was little. So apparently they are poor as I highly doubt they're rich. Dumbass.

We need to start cutting their jobs such as Aldermen and limiting them for having paid vehicles, etc

I'll tell you, you cannot live in Chicago when you retire. I moved to a place that is quiet, calm and pleasant. A brand new home over 3,000 sq ft. My property tax is the same as I was paying in Chicago on a 1,000 sq ft home. There are very few (if any) parking meters. When visiting friends or relative at a major hospital - parking is FREE. Rush hour traffic on the Interstate is 60mph. I never have to wait in line at the bank, supermarket, license bureau, Best Buy, McDonalds (the true meaning of fast food), gas pumps (gas is always 10-20 cents cheaper), electricity is cheaper (I'm in a warmer climate - we have 9 months of summer and 3 months of winter), and you wonder why I left violent, unsafe, high taxes, high utilities, high gasoline, gang ridden neighborhoods, project people (the majority of them) living around middleclass people who still exercise being project people, because thats all they know. And you wonder why I took my money and ran as fast as I could to leave Chicago? My fellow CPD brothers and sisters, leave Chicago when you reach retirement. Believe me there is a better world than being in Illinois.

Mayor Shortshanks needs to get his head out of his butt.....The majority of the CPS teachers I know now live in the suburbs. They all say it is because they are "specialists". Well I don't know about anyone else but I consider myself and all of my family in blue "specialists" as well. What is good for one is good for all.

You know what? Call me crazy, but I think that us city employees should have to live in this city. Why? Because I dont want this city to go to complete shit. As bad as SCC says this city is, its not all that bad. Outside of the ghettos and projects of the south and west sides, the rest of this city is beautiful. There are plenty of good wholesome families and neighborhoods that have been here for generations. Why do we continue to give to and attend our neighborhood parishes and send our kids to the same parishes? Because we care, because its tradition, because the south siders know that if we pick up and run again that the neighborhood will be wrecked in the blink of an eye.

I was in Lancaster, PA this week on business.

Unleaded $2.77/Gal
and
Cigarettes $4.75 a pack.
at the Butter Gas Mart Station.

A razor, travel size shaving cream, travel size tooth paste, tooth brush and four 15 (or 20) packs of Germ-X towelettes. $19.98 all-in at Wal-Mart in Ephrata,PA

As I was paying for the stuff I was thing my g-d how we are getting fucked here in Chicago and Illinois.

Rather then the government telling us we have to buy health care or pay a fine, I'd like them to say you'll pay a tax if you buy something that is --not-- manufactured in America.

If they did that, there would be so much money being generated we would be on our way to closing the deficit gap.

I believe that doesn't happen because both political parties are bought.

Want to talk about the death of the middle class?? The Illinois state senate just passed SB 2494: school vouchers. This allows the worse CPS thugs to get taxpayer money to go to private schools! So YOU have to slave away on a 2nd job to get ur kids out of CPS, but some ghetto mutt will get it for free. F u very much!!

3/27/2010 09:49:00 AM

This person is right... The city is a dump because they catter to these mutts. That's why our tax bills are so high. Go anywhere without these mutts and crime is low , schools are good and taxes are low...See a connection??? Duh

What kind of dictatorship is this guy running. No one should ever be forced to live anywhere. He should make it where everyone wants to live here. The middle class abandoned the south side do to the ever increasing crime. Some people might move to send there kids to better schools, but everyone moves to protect there property and family. The only reason to stay in an area where crime is on the rise is you can't aford to move.

Government employees make up about 2% of Chicago's population. So stop drinking and crying over lost control.

Residency isn't getting lifted anytime soon for us. Well, not unless state law is changed. By state law, any metropolitan area with a population of million or greater must have their first responders live within the confines of the area for which it services. So as much as we'd like to ship off to suburbia, unless there's a change made to state law, we are all sitting in our overpriced 900 sq ft homes a stones throw away from the nearest ghetto.

Remember Haymakergate! Cozzi Was Railroaded! Free CPD!

3/27/2010 12:01:00 PM
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Do I know you? Cause from what you write YOU know me!

Agree with you on all accounts!

The sad part of all this is DUDE...You see somebody somewhere started to believe all his atrocities that the POLICE were puttin on him so then comes the "G"....somebodies politcial agenda!

Then if Dude ain't gettin kilt out on the streets or he ain't getting the cases he used to get to go to County or Prison then well he out there STRONG AND WRONG and ALL SUMMER LONG!

I feel the "G" came to town and started to blast political/police corruption so much with their task forces that it basically shut the whole CPD down inadvertantly and now we all beside ourselves not knowing what the hell to do!

So the trickle down effect was worse than expected I feel and I believe the powers that be that knew of any potential "fallout" problem never expected so much of a problem like the dirty laundry and bad press and excessive crime from slowing down, to come to the surface....YOUCH!

So with the inevitable civil lawsuits and the era of modern tech (cameras and recording devices everywhere) the POLICE are hindered and now not as able to sustain the bad press or beefs and 30 pendings seem easier and police are more expendable regardless of their time on the job....everyone is scrambling!

What am I saying......who knows but I ve got almost 20 years in 40 plus CR's some suspension time, been at call back, sparred, dumped numerous times and jaded!

Still here though!

Signed
Glutton for punishment

Question: where does a middle class right wing person live nowadays? I know NOT in Illinois. When I retire I want to get away from the greed, the inept, the self-serving stupids running a government, the continuous handouts to the the multi-generational down-trodden and the new up and coming illegals soon to be the next down-trodden....all taken care of by the heavily taxed middle class. Where does one go?

Get out of Shitcago asap. I eretired and moved to the suburbs which was a great improvement. Crook County taxes were higher, however, education was FREE. Crime was almost non-existent.

I have now moved to Colorado. I can see the mountains & my taxes are $1500 per year and school is still free. There is no crime to speak of, gas costs less than $2.40 per gallon, few parking meters & many smiling faces all around.

I came into Chicago last week and after arriving at the Midway Airport car rental counter I immediately remembered why I fled.

It was my BEST move ever getting out. There is little if any traffic, speed limits of 70-80 no shit bums and few Dumbocrats. The biggest joke going is watching both Blago & Daley on the news making it embarrassing to admit that you came from Chicago.

Make your plans asap and get on with your life.
