Trooper Layoffs

  • The Illinois State Police will lay off more than 460 troopers and close five regional headquarters by this fall, acting State Police director Jonathon Monken said Tuesday.

With expected retirements, the layoffs will reduce the number of sworn state troopers by about 600, or 30 percent, Monken said. The force currently has a little over 2,000 troopers.

The five offices are those in Litchfield, Carmi, Pecatonica, Macomb and Des Plaines. State Police have 22 offices now.

“There will be significant consequences to public safety,” Monken warned.

If this Department had half a brain, they'd snatch up a bunch of these guys if they wanted to relocate.

Now there's a bright idea. I'm selling everything and moving to Idaho. How much worse can it possibly get in this state? And yet corruption, bad contracts, bad bids, and the flower pots go on and on, and the mayor doesn't know a thing about anything.

This city blows.

As (Acting) Director Monken said...

“no longer providing pro-active programs to keep our citizens safe, but only able to respond to calls for assistance.”

Could be very troubling times for the citizenry of Illinois. DesPlaines (D-Chicago) covers all of Cook County, there is quite a bit of behind the scenes work that is done there. That will be noticed as the days go by, unfortunately.

The other possible districts handle areas where the only police presence might be an hour or two away.

Thanks to the ISP Trooper on S/B 294 near the Hindsale Oasis, who helped my daughter and her roommate off the Tollway when their car broke down and to safety. I apreciate it very much and they were so glad to see you arrive to help.

Thanks, I owe one.

It's realy sad that the democratic controlled state would rather cut public safety rather than cut the waste of money given to all the crack heads and drunks every first of the month. The politicians continue to give boat loads of money to the bumbs that lay around all day getting high and would never work even if it paid them $100 an hour. The fake SSI, LINK, BS disability etc. etc.

God Bless the Troopers that get laid off! The public will miss you. Hopfully in November we get a real Govenor and Reps. that know how to cut the entitlments for the bumbs.

All part of the plan. Destroy law enforcement, crime gets out of hand, the only way to protect the citizens is to take away more rights. We are fast becomming a third world nation. In future years as a career in police work becomes less sought after watch for a huge increase in corruption. Mexico is an example, although Mexico would probably be crime free if only their academy had signs saying "Earned Not Given".

Quinn is laying off troopers but he can create a Public safety job for IDOC at 115,000 a year for a retired CPD boss. A job that was created to " watch" his incompetent director of IDOC that he refused to fire. More proof of who really counts in Illinois. I do not agree with many of Brady's positions particularly when it comes to pensions but it is time to stop this waste of spending.

As I recall, I think having them take over the expressways was some kind of trade off for legalizing Lotto in Illinois. Amazing how times change. Oh yeah, and legalizing the lotto was supposed to be part and parcel of full funding for education. What a fucked up state.

3/24/2010 02:11:00 AM you got it.the expressways coming up from the south are bringing both guns and drugs into chicago. the troopers are the last stand on the homefront. have you noticed lately the smell of cannabis on the xpressways recently. that smell comes from pounds of weed illegaly coming over in semi-trucks, suv's,pickups, etc. if it's got wheels, the cartel has got its hooks in it.public safety is not a priority anymore. god help us all.

Truth is those expressways have not been properly patroled in years.
The old CPD Traffic Unit was the best.
To bring it back you would need 400 to 600 personnel.
They would have to be trained properly in accident, and DUI investigations.
On second thought, better forget the whole thing.
PS: Have a nice day !!!!!

Chicago Police will never patrol the Chicago area expressways!

I have been sounding the alarm on dwindling CPD manpower and problems on the CPD for the last two years. It looks like it has gotten so bad that even the City of Chicago is publicly admitting it now but doing nothing to address the problems.

There is NO MANPOWER to do it, we are undermanned 2,000+ police officers and can barely cover 911 calls.

We are short 2,000+ police officers through attrition and the lack of hiring that Mayor Richard M Daley has imposed. The manpower crisis is a direct result of Mayor Richard M Daley's lack of foresight and planning.

If Governor Quinn needs to fix the state budget start cutting social welfare programs like Ceasefire. Ceasefire does nothing to reduce violence but certain demographics receive their payoffs legally to provide the DemocRatic vote for the Machine.

There are police departments that could be downsized with minimal impact. What about getting rid of CMS Police, SOS Police, ICC Police, etc, etc. Nobody in the public has ever heard of them, so if Governor Quinn said he was cutting them, the public would just shrug and say "So what?"

Governor Quinn is just picking the most visible department and scare mongering. Governor Quinn is just looking for justification to double your income taxes at a time when he bankrupcted the State of Illinois.

Illinois has the second worst economy in the nation! We, the People, need to demand accountability from the politicians in Illinois. The Illinois system of spending taxpayer dollars, like a drunken sailor, needs to stop. The patronage, kickbacks, inside deals, nepotism, CLOUT, corruption taxes, ghost payroll jobs are destroying Illinois.

Why maintain a balanced budget when you can go to the taxpayer ATM and just withdraw, by raising taxes time and again???

If you want REAL CHANGE, vote all incumbents out of office in November. That is Change you can believe in!

Brady for Governor!

DUMP QUINN AND DALEY!!!

Was at Dominick's today. Lady in line in front of me doesn't have enough cash. Pulls out all kinds of shit from her designer handbag and matching wallet. Pulls out a couple of credit cards, puts them back. I see when she opens her wallet she's got a load of cash, including at least two $100 bills. So I'm thinking what the hell?

She finally finds what she's looking for. A FUCKING LINK CARD!!!

She had on diamond rings, Nike shoes, could barely speak English.

I was sick the rest of the day.

The politicians continue to give boat loads of money to the bumbs that lay around all day getting high and would never work even if it paid them $100 an hour. The fake SSI, LINK, BS disability etc. etc."

But, you see that is and always has been the political way to demand more money from taxpayers.

The pols always cut public safety services first, knowing that there will be an outcry from the citizenry rather than make real cuts in all of the give-away programs.

The Dems wouldn't dare cut all those social programs, they would do so at the risk of all those democratic votes, hence go into scare mode with public safety and schools to get your tax increase. I hope all those troopers get hired by us or surrounding departments....

You are not embarrassed by that? You put that out with no shame. Some family you got there. Yes, sir. Something to be proud of.

It was 1960, cops made about $2000 a year, even back then a pawltry sum, they did what they had to do to survive, it's over so move on already...

Instead of nickle and diming the average joe with bullshit red light cameras, why not turn the state police loose on the knuckleheads going 100 mph down the Eisenhower at midnight. Write the bad guys $1000 tickets and the ISP will pay for itself.

This poster is on to something...
These jagoffs fly down the expressways like cruise missiles, ready to hit something and explode.
I was driving down the Eisenhower late one summer night, a Trooper came up from the rear with emergency lights blazing. You could hear the beer bottles landing on the side of the road because no one knew who he was going after. I could have sworn I heard a gun hit the guard rail !

This is no threat! This is for real. Weis is sticking his head in the sand. What don't you understand about the State of Illinois being broke. They are not going broke , they ARE broke. This favor that they do for Chicago is gone. Tough times...suck it up and ADAPT.

I was at the dominicks at Nagle/devon and I saw the same thing. they didn't speak English too well either I wasn't sure if they were Mom and son but the son (age about 25) pulled out the link card although he had a bit of cash on him. The Mom just smiled as I glanced at both of them in disgust. I don't consider myself a racist but I am pretty sure he worked side jobs as many Polish men do, and that's ok but don't f'en use our system to f@#$ us all over!! Damn it was upsetting!!

Maybe it was the same guy.

Years before I got on the job I got a ticket from a white hat traffic cop when I was involved in a fender bender. Years later, I am on the job and ran into him. I complimented him on his professionalism. He was a great example of what a cop should be, and we need more people like that.
