More "Perception"

If J-Fled and the rest of the tiny brained thinkers downtown really want to create the perception of more police, how about this simple solution?
  • All exempts drive marked police vehicles.
Seriously. Maybe even something from the same vehicle pool that we have to use. And they'd have to keep their blue lights illuminated at all times since they're technically on-call all the time, even with 30 unpaid furlough days. What's the worst that could happen?

Absolutely brilliant. They would all forego the city cars and drive their personal cars back and forth to work. The city would save millions in fuel costs.

By the way, gasoline has increased about a buck a gallon since BHO assumed his throne.

I see nothing but 99 units on first watch now. Someone is going to get hurt or killed by this policy of running the CPD with a skeleton crew.

Advise your families to sue should you suffer the fate of Daley's mismanagement and theft.

Remember in the mid 1990's and we were running out of marked squard cars.

They put double Mars light bars on unmarked cars for the supervisors.

What will they think of next?

I LOVE this idea. All exempts, including J-fled drive marked vehicles. Take home cars, all that. It would not only increase the impression that there are more police on the street, it would also increase solidarity with the blue shirts. That is a good thing, isn't it?

Isn't that sort of like telling the U S Congress that THEY have to be covered by the same Obamacare Health insurance that all of us "little" people will be forced to utilize???

Why the hell not? They're not fooling anyone with the Crown Vics sporting all the lights. If it's good enough for the State Troopers, it should be good enough for the CPD brass.

You hit the nail on the head! Let's trade cars with them and let the working police drive in comfort for a week. After all - a squad car is a squad car? Right?

All take home vehicles should bear M-plates.

Then the public would know when a city employee is utilizing the vehicle for personal business.

I would love to see Alderman Burke's city owned vehicle bearing a M-plate and what the media says when it is parked outside the Chicago Chop House!

Furthermore by switching to M-plates the City would be saving money as the State of Illinois only charges a one time fee for each vehicle to be so licensed rather than a yearly fee for renewal.

This must mean that jody is trading in his UNmarked SUV for marked SUV.

The entire command staff should have marked cars. After all, we do want to create the perception of police everywhere.

Or is this another example of leading from the back?

I remember using the old Canine Unit station wagons as pool cars, R-man used them too, they also used marked vehicles. That Perception is nothing more than Deception. Will the crossing guard supervisor have to activate lights on the Tahoe ? What about the Timekeeper going on a lunch run? Everybody will have to use any vehicle everytime they go out, so then why worry about rotating the vehicles with their color coded key tags???? Super Cool Idea !!!
What about those Pods? Light'm all up !
Put some Mars Lights on ice cream trucks, roach-coaches, street sweepers and those Segways while you're at it
Gotta run.

Great idea. Why do they need unmarked cars anyway? They should be highly visible with the position they hold within the police department.

Why does a tac lieutenant have a take home car? That truly is a waste of money. That car could be given to his tac team. Really, what a huge waste!

I hear Deputy Georges (sp?) has a brand new marked SUV all for his special self.

That of course is in addition to his other unmarked cars.

A couple nights ago we had 4 down cars on midnights, 3 99 Units and a few 10-4 cars. The ONLY thing saving us is the cool nights. We are going to be in very bad shape when the temps go up. Even if they hired 1000 Officers today, the would not be on the streets till late fall or winter. Most would need at least a year after that til they could somewhat handle themselves on the street and learn the real job. Get through this year and what do we have to look towards next year? Retiring Officers and less PO's on the street. IS ANYONE DOWNTOWN LISTENING?

I JUST WANT TIRES LIKE HIS INSTALLED ON MY SUV. The only time we get new tires (not necessarily new) is if one gets a flat. Then you have 3 "bald" tires and 1 decent one for traction. Hang on! Its gonna get better...... Can we have a fundraiser for new cars and equipment? Give some big corporations a shot at more write-offs.... We need to do something. Company sponsored squad cars... with logos on them like race cars.... that would be AWESOME!!!
Sounds dumb but does it really?!?!?

How about giving all PO's take home cars? I'd love to have a marked car sitting in front of the house.

Why not? a 10% contract isnt going to cover the other increases that we all have. SO throw us a bone and give us all take home care. Would save the blue shirts some cash too!

The perception of the popo all over the place would be good for the general public.

I can see it now though... 19month wonders fly'n down the shoulder on the Kennedy on the way to their cubicles at HQ.

I love that car 43 came up on zone 3 on 15APR to ask for a car to do paper for Crim Damage. I guess his friend who lives on Paulina had someone damage his or her car and couldn't call 311 for a report but had to call his or her high ranking friend. And instead of car 43 telling this friend to call the police like any normal citizen, he had to show them how gets things done. Like a gold star wearing dispatcher.

Marked cars for take home cars and require them all to call in when passing through each district and be required to assist on jobs or take radio calls etc.
