No Equipment for Strike Force

If this is true, this is hilarious and sad, all at the same time:
  • it's all smoke and mirrors. 50 2 year wonders detailed to MSF today..yet no new cars or radios...be riding 4 deep...the public will see the same amount of cars out there...how stupid
And how would this be proven to be true?
  • This is off the topic, but I was not sure how to bring it to anyone's attention. According to fleet in order to supply enough cars for the new Summer Initiatives, cars that were scheduled to be junked are being call ed back into service. Mars lights are being reinstalled at area 1 as I write this. This does not effect me directly, but shouldn't this be a safety issue? Two weeks ago a department already short on cars was ready to junk them, but now they are [acceptable]?
Safety grievance anyone?

We thought we had someone intimately familiar with Fleet operations working in HQ now? Someone foisted on the Police Department following a "Love Boat" type tour through other city agencies and following a 30-day-suspension for those transgressions?

We're sure all these cars have been refurbished to exacting standards for the long hot summer ahead.

Or maybe the fact that you have run out of options is more like it. Great leadership you two! What a way to make us proud. Even if you did file a grievance, you would have to have proof that the cars were going to get junked to win or your family being able to file a lawsuit as a result of your untimely death because of one of these cars. I bet a majority of the soon to be junked cars are the chevy impala death traps.

First of all, you have no idea what you are talking about. MSF NEVER got any NEW equipment. All the cars the UNIT started with(and still have) are POS cars put together for the Unit. They were carry-overs from the Back to the Streets program. The cars did not have air, computers and sometimes no heat. They keep replacing the parts that fall off on their long drives to 007 or puttering around 011. The Unit has donated office computers that were going to be scraped by outside sources. Officers are still using the old double-single dot radios that went out over 10 years ago in most Districts. Many Officers could have been hurt when they keyed up in a foot chase only to hear static. The promises of new cars and radios havent come true yet (over 18 months) since the Unit started up. Pos are buying their own radios just to work. The cars arent worth much as scrap metal, much less to even be used as regular cars on a daily basis. The Department hasnt put anything new into MSF except for a couple new Xerox machines. Its embarrassing to even walk in into the Unit. One even wonders why anyone would work under those conditions. Give the Officers there alot of credit. They make due with nothing and still work in the worst Districts in the City. MSF are treated like step children everywhere they go. Why dont you give up your Tahoes and drive their cars for a night? I didnt know the gas pumps would take six figure mileages......

Eventually all equipment will fail on this Department. Just cease to work. Maybe the R-Service guy can drive us around... no wait, his van is down too......

Pretty soon the Order will come out that we must drive our own personal vehicles on patrol...

Man, I just hope things change before I retire in 17 years..... I dont see it getting better. 29 and a day is looking impossible right now......

Guess the safety of the officer is than for the valets who run for coffee and pick up groceries! How about burke loses his car,his huge detail for 90 days? There are cars available that we could have on the street within two weeks after purchase if somebody in city hall could figure out what they are suposed to do. These cars are available at bid price so all we have to do is spend the money allocated for them, but then city hall would not be able to divert that money.
Because the city had declared these cars unusable, someone should sue if they get into an accident. Thye union should be able to obtain a list from MM of cars scheduled for junking, its all in the computer system, all they have to do is get off their asses and do something.

It's true. There are no cars and the bosses at roll call admitted that they have some of the worst equipment in the Department. So they're pretty much like every other district and unit. And after riding in one of their cars and using their 25 year old Saber radio, it's true.
The rumor about no comp time is not true. The 10 hr day schedule is pretty nice as far as days off go. I'd say about 2% volunteered for the detail. And those were guys who are stuck on midnights with a shitty boss, partner, etc.

Once again, the kool-aid talking for another short-timer, and YEAH, 8 years is nothing on this job! Apparently, you can't see the difference between those who live off welfare and commit all the crime WE have to document, and the people who come to WORK every day, appear at roll call, go to their shitbox dangermobiles and do what their job description states, which is protect the lives and property of the citizens of this city. Yes, YOU two year wonderfucks who think this job is supposed to be about movers, parkers, contact cards & arrests need to vomit up the federal/Daley kool-aid and re-read what your job responsibility is.

Nowhere in there, nor in your oath have you sworn to birddog No Turn On Reds, hang back at intersections in the hopes that someone will blow through the light because they can't see you, ambush people coming out of a bar and demand identification so you can write a contact card or arrest the homeless guy with an old shopping car because he's "in possession of lost or mislaid property".

You pathetic humps who want to complain about your idea of a "poor work ethic", Shit details that are mere failed political tools AND having shit bosses in this city are the ones on the losing end my friend. That's because you give YOURSELF one additional deluded reason to complain that the rest of us don't have, complaining about everyone else.

Now, time to go belly back up to the "pc" for another POD mission there boy, get at it and get me my event number!

So what you're complaining about is the "two year wonder" comment?? Almost as bad as the gross generalizations you made about the "95 percent" of the department that you claim your buddy (and I presume you) out perform on a daily basis. Maybe all the people you are describing have done A LOT more than you have, or ever will and are plain old tired and see things for what they really are. So why don't you go out there and get em tiger, the "tax paying" public really appreciates it. Thank goodness you have 30 days more seniority than your buddy, saving you from being sent down as well.

The brass know this and they count on it. The pool cars are in terrible condition! Remember, it's all about the bosses and what they can do to get noticed. Never trust them and don't do things just to please them. If shit goes wrong you will be all alone. They will not even remember your name.

O.T. I think the following excerpt means HE GONE!

CAMERON: Does Jody Weis deserve another contract?

DALEY: I think Jody Weis is a very, very good person. I think ... I mean, fine, people don't like crime, no one likes crime, but you can't blame him (pauses) for ... if you're son is out at 10 o'clock at night during the week and he's 12 or 14 years old, don't blame the police. Everybody wants to blame the police.

CAMERON: So when his three-year contract is up, you want to renew him?

DALEY: Well we'll see, we'll work with him, but I'm just saying this has nothing to do with (a) three-year contract. This has to do with people's responsibility ...

http://www.suntimes.com/news/cityhall/2220676,daley-weis-police-support-chicago-043010.article?plckCurrentPage=1&sid=sitelife.suntimes.com

So it now has been revealed how Weis will be replaced as police superintendent. Weis will be asked to take a substantial pay cut; Weis will refuse and Daley will crow that Weis refused to sign a new contract, it is all Weis' fault. That is the Daley way.

And Weis will leave town knowing how it feels to be a Daley fall guy. In actuality, Weis should demand a salary increase, not be expected to take a cut.

As it is, Weis can declare victory, that he has done what he came here to do and throw it all back into Daley's court.

Why the 2 year wonder comment???? I lost a team member by reverse seniority to this farce. The guy has 8 years on the job. The 8 years he has been on the job he has made more arrests than 95% of the department.

I love the know it all do nothings telling someone how to do things. These are the guys who have never scored in the top 1,000 on any promotional exam. They don't know how to articulate probable cause for an arrest and have all their uniforms from the 90's. These are the guys who have never worked tac, gangs, sat team, gun team, mission team or a even plain cloths on the watch. The only thing the look forward to the lunch, personals, 1st, and 16th. These are the guys that complain about people who don't work and live off of others taxes. Meanwhile they are paid by the peoples taxes and do nothing for the check they don't deserve. Typical of far to many on the CPD.

My WC said if any of these four man posse cars actually makes an arrest they will probably call for a transport vehicle. If a 10-99 car shows up to do the transport on of the four will ride with the 10-99 officer into the station to process the arrest. Then the officer who rode with the district officer can ride with the 10-99 officer for the rest of the tour and his three pals can follow that district car around and answer calls and make stops.

Who knows, they may lock up a domestic offender, a real gangbanger with a gun, or burglar on that 10-99 cars beat.

Assigning officers to fill in at the district level, brilliant idea.

Simple solution crybaby, bid out of the MSF unit, you should never have went there in the first place. Never go to these bs units after what they did to SOS and the early version of the TRU units. The folks who jumped up to go to msf get what they deserve, you should have never went to the bs smoke and mirror unit. You all belong back in patrol. Also, before any one starts to bi@h about it, I was asked to go to TRU and MSF but I new better same of shit just a different name. The glory days of taking care of unit guys are over, read the writing on the wall and bail before it is to late.

Don't worry, it's a self-solving problem; those officers will get the blame when the vehicle fails and they're involved in a crash.

If they live, they'll learn. If they die, they'll take the blame to their grave.

THAT'S what's shameful.

The disgruntled one seems to be the author of the post, and you.

Again, the author could have taking his boys spot or even volunteered to go with him.

It goes without saying. If you down a car for safety issues then it is not to be used until the problem is corrected. So refuse to drive the vehicle. If you are ordered to use the vehicle use the vehicle. Don't disobey a direct order. However, before obeying the direct order and driving off in that unsafe vehicle complete a To-From- Subject- report indicating the problems and objections to the use of the vehicle. When you get in that accident and get injured or die make sure you or your spouse sue the fuck out of them. Got it.

Pain in the ass, yes. If you want change do what has to be done.

All you hair gel police think your the best thing to come on this department and we couldn't do without you. Others have worked just as hard as you and been in your shoes, now YOU need to see things from their point of view. Oh, I forgot, you CAN"T because you haven't been there yet. So again, STFU and learn like we did. Experience is the best teacher and you obviously have none.
