Police Shooting

  • A 19-year-old man was shot and seriously wounded in an incident Saturday night that preliminary information indicated might have involved an exchange of gunfire with police.

Chicago Fire Department paramedics were sent to the scene of a shooting in the 6100 block of South Prairie Avenue at about 10:25 p.m., said fire spokesman [...]

The 19-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition with two apparent bullet wounds, he said. It was not clear how the man was shot, but initial information said there had been an exchange of gunfire involving the Police Department...
Nothing further at the moment.

UPDATE: Once again, a scumbag out on bail for a previous weapon charge who manages to get his hands on another weapon. A big thanks to Anita and the Cook County State's Attorneys! You suck!

Coppers okay; bad guy shot twice. gun recovered, get away car found. good shoot. scumbag tried to execute the police. it's a war zone out there and jody and dick refuse to not only give us more manpower that is needed, they keep tightening the reins from us being able to do police work. Thank God the coppers are okay. This one was a close one, too close for comfort.

Due to increases in violent crime, the audacity of late to take on the police and most importantly the ill-conceived notion of policing that J-Fled has (specialized units chasing dots on a computer screen) expect more police shootings and dare I say - the possible loss of another brother in blue. I pray each day that someone downtown, anyone, gathers the nerve to thud J-Fled's forehead and tell him he's wrong in his notion of policing. You need 2-man cars in all districts from dusk to dawn and you need to give the district commanders their full complement of manpower (decrease or eliminate the specialized units) and hold their feet to the fire to get the job done in their districts. The NIMBY principle that's being applied now will never work and never has. You can't succeed by pushing crime around and that is what the "new" violence initiative will do. I just hope some cop doesn't have to prove it with his life. God Bless us all.

Seems like an appropriate use of department issued rifles.

I've been firing weapons for almost 30 years, starting at age 17 in the Army, and I've never been all that good with a handgun.

Now give me a rifle and anything less than 100 yards and I can hit my target most of the time.

Glad to see the bad guy is no more. To paraphrase Monty Python:

Why not just hire the police officers that the city needs. This paper fails to understand and report that the Chicago Police Department is currently several hundred officers short of the number that the city council and police union state are required to properly police this city. Daley finds the money to put his name everywhere and to fund his special interest programs, but no money for the police department. Also we have a city where the everyday law abbiding citizen cant own a gun, but the gang bangers can.

Dear Superintendent, I know you read this blog.

Why can't everyone carry a rifle if they want to?

Why do we have to pass a POWER test?

Why can't I go to rifle school?

I heard the lackey in News Affairs saying that the POWER test standard was to protect the officer in case someone tried to take the rifle away--what a bunch of horseshit !!!!

I spent 8 years in the USMC, 3 as a weapons instructor to Boots at Edson Range, Camp Pendleton CA. I shot expert at all qual's then and could probably still do if I spent some time snapping in.

I have fired M4s since on a regular basis.

I now have a bum knee (duty related) so I can't pass your precious test, but I can still shoot the anus out of a flea at 50 yards with a 55 grain .223 round out of a Rock River M4 in all wind conditions.

With us being so short handed, why won't you let us protect ourselves?

Please answer us. I am quite certain that any of the hundreds, if not thousands, of former and current military on the job could handle a rifle and I'd bet we'll all be better shots than you are.

The measure of a coward ???

For the people who are not familiar with Chicago's streets
the average city block measures approximately 660 feet by 330 feet.

Going from the corner of Paulina
to Marshfield in the vicinity of 80th street (Gresham District) means one has to travel the short distance, that is the 330 feet.

Divide the feet by three and you find that the total yardage is about 110 yards , more or less.

A fully ladened police officer can most likely, on foot, run 100 yards in less than 20 seconds. That's by the slowest estimate and without adrenalin to assist.

With this in mind, and facts supporting, once shots were heard being fired within 110 yards away
J-fled could have been on or within a distance to secure a crime scene h and protect others had he run towards the sound of gunshots and not away from them.

A leader in this case, supposing that he/she were an experienced Chicago police officer, might have had the wherewithal to command nearby officers to secure the north bound avenues of egress while the leader secure the southbound.

Not say,"I gotta run".

Police officers KNOW when they are close to a shooting offender. They cautiously advance toward the sound of shots and, while approaching are continuously alert for the fleeing suspect/s.

They do not RUN! (away)

J-Fled can attempt to fool the media and their ill informed readers or viewers but he cannot fool the working men and women beside him on the scene.

A coward they assigned to him a coward he is.

Signed,
The empty cylinder.

Empty Cylinder post script:

I forgot to point out to the citizen reader that ..."On View"
shots fired are real time, on the scene, happenings.

There is no lag time preceeding the event of response. For example , no dispatcher has to be called and then be required to re-broadcast the information to the field units.

This DOES take time, especially on busy evenings...in fact today, more often than not, a lot of time.

But

J-Fled was acting in REAL TIME.
How could he be 45 seconds away???
He was within 110 yards. Is he that slow?

He mentioned he has some Military connection???

Does he recall the proceedure soldiers are taught when they are caught in an ambush?

Run towards the sounds of fire and the flashes into the safety cones of minimal enemy coverage.

He's all smoke and mirrors.
Retired John N. is correct. He did perform in a cowardly manner not to address the citizen's safety during a potentially deadly scenario.

Chicago Democrats John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford said they want Quinn, Mayor Richard Daley and Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis to allow guardsmen to patrol streets and help quell violence. Weis said he did not support the idea because the military and police operate under different rules...
And Mayor Shortshanks doesn't want any gangbangers abused. J-Flake can just walk up to the gang leaders and tell them to "Knock it off." How about a picnic for gangbangers and the CPD? What about a new program: Adopt-A-Dude. Every P.O. would be responsible for providing food, clothing, shelter, money and ammo for his "Dude." It would be a great way to build a rapport with former enemies. And a P.O. could mentor an errant gangbanger like when he attacks two innocent women with a baseball bat, or stabs an elderly jogger on the Riverwalk. The P.O. could point out that when it comes to attacking innocent women it isn't necessary to use an aluminum bat, a wooden one will do. It would be a small step towards healing hurt feelings and Shortshanks and the Coward of the County would love it.

So the same department that I hurt myself working for won't allow me to carry a carbine because I can't run distance? Jody, you can save a bit of face and respect of the officers by lifting the power test. I carry one and have never had to run someone down with it. 016 is quickly becoming a ghetto district. 016 is getting worse by the day because a lot of illegals and a lot of hispanic gangs are moving in. Plus you also have some shitheads from the south side are moving into the 16th district.

I talked to some shitheads who live by 6600 North Sacramento in 024 and they told me "you can make a lot of money up north and plus there is less police in the north side". There you have it.

The winners will be the criminals. The losers will be the honest hardworking citizen.

Maybe it's about time the northwest side police become a little less "re-active" and a little more "pro-active"?

5.56 mm, it's a beautiful thing... WE NEED THESE LIFESAVING TOOLS, J-Fled, Lift the power test requirement, put a stop on all the nonsense training, and detail some former infantrymen or special forces guys to do a crash course of mostly range time. Get those rifles out there!

Scumbag's momma says her son was murdered by the pooolice. When do we get to see the photo of the little tyke wearing his mortar board?

According to the Sun-Slimes:

Cops return gunfire, kill Hyde Park teen

April 26, 2010

BY CHERYL V. JACKSON Staff Reporter

Hyde Park High School athlete Izael Jackson was excited about the coming months that would see him attend prom, graduate and head for Edward Waters College, his mother said.

His prom suit was being made and she was preparing to buy him the Prada shoes he'd requested, Octavia Mitchell said.

But Saturday night, the 18-year old was gunned down by Chicago Police after he allegedly fired shots at officers in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood.....

It's too late for WEISel, Masters or RayRay to make any moves that anyone here would deem intelligent or considerate. Whatever they decide to do with the M4 physical qualifications, everyone will still see him as a bum.

"22 feb 2011, next mayoral election

14 sept 2010, first day to circulate petitions

13 dec 2010, last day to circulate, and deadline to file.

Need 12,500 signatures.

Term starts 04 may 2011

term ends 04 may 2015

who is going to step up and run?

Register to vote and get out and vote.

This city is a sinking ship.

Time is short!!!
This is VERY INFORMATIVE. Whoever did this we need to thank. Suggestion to get the ball rolling. I'm begging. Can we get together and name a few police officers or low level supervisors (Sgt's or Lt'S only)that we may support in a run for the office of Mayor. (Eventually we will decide on one) SCC, please make this it's own thread. Seriously, I remember a few months ago we alomost pulled off getting signatures in a few weeks. Lets nominate on of our own and then support him/her. We can make history people and dethrone the king. I have never been more serious about anything in my life. There are plenty of educated, talented, good hearted people on this job that can make a difference. Call me a dreamer but I think we can make this a reality. I'm certain that Northside would assist. For our own benefit, please people. Wake up!

5.56 is the NATO designation for the .223, if you buy a box of this ammo it will have both of these calibers listed on the box. Not being a smart ass, just FYI.

You must not be the Police. This is not true. If you are the Police, you better call the range or go back to carbine school....

.223 is civilian name for the ammo. 5.56 is the military designation as well as NATO's. Same round for the ballistic challenged.

So now the big question:
Was the car these coppers were ridnng in have a gun rack in the trunk, and why wasn't the rifle in the rack if so equipped. IPRA has already been out to MSF to look atone of the two cars involved. Please don't tell me that they are going to wack the guys for carrying the rifle inside of the car. if it was in the trunk, this guy would be alive because he ran and the cops probably would have missed him with them shooting at him with handguns, Another Fuck the troops attitude.

I hope none of you are carrying an M-4!
.223 is very different from 5.56. Thankfully all the approved M-4's are chambered for 5.56 ammo, if you fired a 5.56 in a weapon chambered for .223 you would risk damaging your weapon and your face!
Due to the length of the 5.56 round, it would not "chamber" or "seat" completely in a .223 chambered weapon, thereby igniting outside the chamber causing brass fragmentation/expansion, which would be normally contained inside the chamber.
However a .223 can be fired in a 5.56 chambered weapon as it is shorter and fully contained in the chamber whereas all gasses from the igniting round is expelled down the barrel and gas tube where it is needed (the M-4 is a gas operated weapon). No explosion in the ejection port!

They should have taught you this instead of taking a stupid fucking POWER TEST!!! But maybe you'll need that 1.5 mile running skill to runaway from the bad guy whose weapon is still functioning properly while your M-4 is on the ground looking like a looney tune exploding cigar!

Hmmmm...

5.56 is good enough for most "government" work though our personal preferrence is 7.62 frangible or "zippy" 125gr. for urban Police type use... Hornady TAP for example. (Damn expensive compared to military surplus/commercial ball though.)

Ya gotta hit the target though!

Wounding doesn't count... unless it's a 500gr. .58 caliber Minie Ball.

Glad the Police came out on top.

The mean & killing season is upon us... Do what you need to do to go home.

Lol at the "...Looney Toon exploding cigar."

We think the late and good Col. Cooper noted it as "spontaneous disassembly" or as some would call it, K-B!
