Cops Houses Burglarized

  • A pair of home burglaries Friday in Chicago has police combing the streets. They're not typical break-ins. They happened at the homes of two Chicago police officers.

CBS 2 [...] reports that thieves got away with a 0.9 mm handgun, ammunition, a gun belt, a Chicago Police Department star and body armor vest -- all from one officer's home on the Southwest side.

  • About three miles away, also on the Southwest side, thieves hit another officer's home. Sometime between 4:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., they rummaged through two cars in the garage. Police say they took a stereo, a Chicago Police Department uniform shirt and name plate and a pair of handcuffs.
We don't know what to advise here - get a dog, a safe, an alarm, be aware you may be followed home. We are all targets. Be aware.

I advise taking the FOP medallions off of your vehicles, they have outlived their usefulness. There are very few places that you can go and get a parking courtesy anymore considering all of the private ticket writers Daley has stalking the neighborhoods. People don't like the police, what is the advantage to advertising you're the police?

There have been a lot of burglaries to cops homes on both north and south sides in the past year. And several home invasions of police. This is interesting since it doesn't seem random. I wonder if the list of p.o's names and addresses that was taken by a civilian employee a few years back is happening again.

Well some p.o.'s rallied for more civilians handling sensitive data... Lock your sh-t up and alert your neighbors. Think again on who you want hsndling our data.

A protective dog, a gun and an alarm systel That's about as good as you can do- and if you can only do two, then the gun and the dog should be your two choices.

The gun is there for when you are home, the dog and alarm are there for when you aren't.

Really, a barking, sizable dog will dissuade all but the most determined n'er do wells. Most of these assholes are picking soft targets of opportunity. A protective dog substantially hardens up your home defense strategy. It will cause most of these turds to look elsewhere.

On one level - it is a burglary, so take better care of your security.

On another level - it could be some terrorist cell trying to procure enough "real" police gear to create some event and "be the police" on scene so they don't raise any suspicion.

Too farfetched?? In today's world - nothing can be overlooked.

A good safe is the best way to keep your stuff safe, not a cheapo safe either. A good safe will cost about $300-$500 and will have 1" bolts around the door. The common burglar won't be able to get in, a pro would but most house burglars aren't that adept.

A bit OT, but related... 2 squad cars were set on fire last night around 0200 hrs off Nagel on the NWside. The canine patrol car sustained heavy damage. The other squad sustained less damage because my husband put the fire out before it spread. Thanks to the off duty copper who knocked on our door and alerted us about the fire. It was a long night and a disconcerting one knowing that someone was just outside my home setting a police car ablaze. Definitely appears that police are being targeted.

THE POST ABOUT THE FOP MEDALLION HAVING LOST ITS USEFULNESS IS SO TRU.

METER MAIDS ACTUALLY WILL FOCUS IN ON UR RIDES AND LOOK A LITTLE HARDER AT UR CAR.

OFFICERS ON PATROL NOTICE THE MEDALLION AND IF UR TEENAGER IS IN IT GUESS WHAT TRAFFIC STOP.

THIEVES SEE THE MEDALLION AND KNOW U MIGHT JUST HAVE A PISTOL IN THE CAR AND R LIKELY TO HAVE NICE THINGS TO LOOT.

OFFICERS SPEND VERY LITTLE ON SECURITY REMEMBER DEPUTY PETERSON TV AND GUNS WERE TAKEN CHEAPEST LOCK ON A FLIMSY DOOR. THE GUY MAKES OVER 140K A YEAR AND HE HAS A 20$ LOCK.

BUT A REAL DOOR AND HAVE A SECURE DOOR FRAME!

BUY A REAL LOCK AND QUIT LEAVING CRAP IN UR YARD SO THE NEIGHBORS DONT ROB U.

HIDE UR WEAPONS IN A WALL SAFE.
IF U CAN AFFORD AN H-D TV AND MOUNT IT ON A WALL WITH SPEAKERS U CAN MAKE A HIDDEN WALL SAFE.

REMEMBER WHEN U CALL FOR THE REPORT THE E.T. WILL DO A HALF ASS JOB WITH PRINTS WATCH THEM.

AND THINK THE NEXT TIME U DO A REPORT AND PUT IN THE NARRATIVE SCENE CONTAMINATED BECAUSE THE NEXT HOUSE WILL BE URS

SCC, maybe you should not post this for security reasons but the info needs to get out to the suburban officers, esp in Lake and McHenry counties. ALL taxpayers addresses are available on the respective county Assessor's web sites. Just do a name search....and there is a copy of your tax bill along with a name of all owners....
If the Sec of State can change the address on your registration so it won't give your real address why can't the counties block some of their info upon request?

if you get an alarm system, make sure that it has a cell phone backup. If you do not, the alarm system is pretty much useless. I won't talk about why on this blog so I do not inform the uninformed who might misuse the information. But, all of the good burglars know why

WTF is going on? Coppers houses out South and now cars up North? Something is going on.

Two cop cars burned on NW side, arson suspected

Police suspect arson in the case of two police cars that were set on fire early Saturday on the Northwest side.

The first fire occurred at 2:15 a.m. in the Big Oaks neighborhood, and the second occurred about five minutes later in the Jefferson Park neighborhood, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

The Chicago Fire Department was called to extinguish the flames. Both incidents are being treated as arson, Kubiak said.

No one was injured, and it didn’t appear that the suspects tried to steal anything from the vehicles. Police are not releasing the exact locations of the fires because the cars were parked near officers’ homes, Kubiak said.

Just so that all Officers know we are also targets for "Identity Theft"! Yes, this happened to me, a Police Officer just recently!

For example: Unknown Offenders used my personal information, unknown how obtained, and opened up a Peoples Gas Account over the phone in a shit southside neighborhood, this past winter and of course not one penny has been paid on the stolen account!

Peoples Gas Co. authorized the account to be opened over the phone based on stolen information and they allowed it!!!!!!

Now the Jagoff, Peoples Gas Company has me the victim jumping through hoops to prove that I did NOT open a gas account at the theft address!

The only way I found out about the "Identity Theft" is when I pulled my free yearly credit report through:

annualcreditreport.com

We are the perfect targets as most all of us have great incomes and pay our bills on time and have high credit scores! That is all the thieves need! Information can be grabbed anywhere even in our own Police Department!

I know for a fact, Police Officer information is NOT secured at 35th st. Any bozo with an "ax to grind" can find out everything about us via the computer! And the way the city has been screwing with all employees it's NOT hard to see that happen!

"Identity Theft" is even a bigger problem than a house burglary because it can mess you up for years!

Get the word out SCC!!!

The only one being an asshole is YOU! Everyone on here wants to know where it happened. The news story is completely vague. We also know according to the news it could mean 100 different neighborhoods because they don't know the neighborhoods.

And if you could tell me what district desk has any kind of clue what is going on I'd give you a million bucks.

If you buy a safe, keep in mind the door may be thick and beefy but the top, sides, and back is likely 10 ga steel.

Lag bolt the thing to the floor and wall it is against. It won't stop them but it slows them down a bit.

If some one knows you and your routine, time and a sawsall, or a thin abrasive wheel is going to breach your 'safe' aka 'residential security container'.

It does stop the bash and grab types and it keeps the kiddies away from your firearms.

When you fill out an application for anything, unless it is absolutely necessary (as in your mortgage),

DO NOT LIST OCCUPATION AS >> POLICE OFFICER.

Put down Supervisor for City of Chicago or Piano Player in a bordello.

Some years ago, a gangbangers mama worked in an insurance company and would watch applications for cops addresses so her Straight A Student could burglarize the home for weapons.

Also, do not have you or your kids put stuff like this on Face Books or other types of social pages.

>>>HERES A REAL WARNING!!!

The printers and the copiers in our stations, as well in our insurance company, doctor's, lawyer's and everyone else's office have hard drives built into them. These hard drive memories will retain an image of everything they copy or print. They will stay with the printer or copier unless they are erased or removed. These memory devices are goldmines for identity theft rings ALSO for IAD and Jody's Anti-First Amendment investigations.

It IS a crime and you can sign as a member of FOP. Check out the statutes. "that I know of" does not relieve you of your responsibility to know the law.

I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW HOW POOR OUR 911 SERVICE IS, ESPECIALLY THE CALL TAKERS THAT TOOK THE CALL FOR THE GARAGE BURGLARY. I HAD TO REQUEST A SUPERVISOR-911 TO SEND OUT A CAR BECAUSE THE OPERATOR WANTED TO SEND IT TO CALL-BACK.
I TOLD HER I WAS THE POLICE, AND SHE SAID
'WE DON'T SEND CARS OUT FOR THAT, UNLESS IT JUST HAPPENED, YOU CAN DO A REPORT OVER THE PHONE."
EXCUSE ME. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT E.T.'S COME OUT ON CALL BACK!!!!
SO MUCH FOR BEING THE POLICE.
IT'S FUCKING SAD, WHEN A POLICE OFFICER HAS TO WAIT TWO AND A HALF HOURS FOR SERVICE.
I THOUGHT WE COULD TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN, FASTER THAN THAT..

If your looking for a company that sells gun safes and gives discounts to officers check out a lock company in 012. He's friendly to 012 coppers and his shop is on Jackson just before Morgan, north side of the street. Always stated he'd give a discount to a cop if you mention your one. Has about 5-10 different types on sight and tons of magazines to look through.

Having an FOP medallion on a vehicle is not a crime that I know of and even if it was the FOP would have to sign a complaint and they won't. The FOP hands them out to recruits, before they are P.O.'s, at the academy in the first month. It is illegal to display the medallion on the license plate even if it does not block the plate info.

Please tell this joker to get off the blog because obviously he doesn't have a fucking clue what he was talking about....

First they have to find your safe. If you have a concrete basement floor...there you go.

Jamaicans put tarantulas and boa constrictors and shit in the rooms where their valuables are located. But a trained dog works too.

I had guns stolen out of a locker at work, the old station didn't have much security back then.

As the saying goes, a well kept secert is worth more than a thousand locks.

There are several good books on how to conceal things, from burglars and from the government. Google the search from Amazon and see what's available.

Lock up non police shady people with fop medallions, I do but Asa and judges refuse to prosecute. Burglar bars, deadbolt locks, burglar alarm, big dog, decent safe lag bolted to the floor and wall studs, and motion lights on the outside of the house. I have en all and knock on wood, I haven't been hit! I'm sick of the lies and paper shuffling. We're short about 3000 officers out there and the scumbags know it! Oh yeah, who said we have to be budgeted for 13,500 officers. Raise that to 15,000 , hire the 3000 we're short plus the add'l 1500 and then take back the streets. The mayor is such a stroke and so are the shaky higher ups.

Take a look at page 139 of the F.O.P book.'

Actually, the original poster is correct. Inspectors will cite you for having an FOP medallion attached to your license plate, and there is a statute against it.
