No More Practice Ammo?

Are we really this hard up?
  • More cut backs. Say good bye to your free 100 rounds a year for practice. Order just came out Wednesday. Pretty soon we'll get slingshots because ammo is too much money. Rocks are free.
Next year's qualifying is supposed to be with an empty gun and you yell, "Bang! Bang!" at a piece of newsprint (targets are too expensive you know) and then you walk downrange and poke holes in the paper where you think the bullets might have gone.

The rumor is that they were going to drop this stinker the week P.O. Wortham was killed...

Besides, we can barely get any trigger time at a CPD range anyway because they're such hazardous waste dumps with poor ventilation and are shut down most of the time. You need a spiritual medium & tea leaf reader wearing a turban with a dunce cap sticking through the middle to figure out which ranges are actually open.

The powers that be didn't want it to look like they were trying to tell Policemen "fuck you" too obviously. The public would put it all together and figure out that what coppers talk about on this blog in regard to every decision regarding the Police Department centers around Shorty's payback, clout, politics and bullshit in general is factual for the most part.

It's all the Policeman's fault! Didn't ya hear?

The part about the news print as targets is true. I understand they intend to use copies of the Reader that feature any disparaging articles about Daley and his corruption. Watch for wagon crews to be dispatched to news stands to snatch up copies of the Reader on Thursday nights before they fall into the hands of the citizens.

With all the shooting going on throughout the city; and I can't get practice ammo. How much did it really cost? Especially not every officer got their two boxes each year. I know several guys who never practiced and never received practice ammo. This city is a joke.

ONE HUNDRED ROUNDS PER YEAR?

You're joking, right? That's it?

That's less than two rounds a WEEK.

I can go thru a hundred rounds in FORTY FIVE MINUTES, and I'm dog-ass slow. I've seen people burn thru 100 rounds in half my time without breaking a sweat.

What's next...take the siren from your cars? Maybe you can just stick your head out the window and shriek WooWooWoo.

What a startling lack of leadership from your Superintendent and from the CEO of the City Of Chicago.

They dont give you much to shoot with and theyre always apologetic about it but it is a live fire course. Shouldnt we be shooting more at live fire? Im not knocking the range staff. They do the best they can with it

If that order does come out eliminating practice ammo, get a copy of that order and save it, in case you need it to defend yourself sometime in the future. Didn't hit what you were aiming at? Getting sued for it? Blame it on shoddy training and non-existent ammo to train with.

Remember, most of your training records are false. don't believe it? Look up your own training records in the CPD computers. You will see they have you down as "trained" on every subject imaginable, for liability purposes.

You are responsible for that "training" that most of us never even heard about much less received.

Every streaming video counts as "training" and inside people mark the whole unit down as "trained" whether you were there or not.

When will that pile of shit ever hit the fan? Falsified training records of the entire police department. It's true, you can look it up.

Blame the Admin. Mgr. at the Academy (A. C-H).
She f'd up the budget and put the wrong dollar amount down for this years ammo. She shorted it by a zero on the end of a large number!

Such a competent individual she is (he he)

She is the ghost payroller that everyone in the ft. office covers (she has every excuse not to come to work) and Howard has bought her I will work from home B.S. hook line and sinker!

She is in charge of the NMERT funds or should I say in charge of the NMERT thefts.
(Illinois Training and Standards Board needs to order an audit for the past three or four years - boy will they be surprised)

Has anyone had their gas masks checked since you got them = she is in charge of that too. (Your mask and filter should be re-checked each and every year)

Don't want to overload you too much with her incompetence. More will come later.

When I qualified this year, the range instructor never even left the booth. When we finished we were told to take down our targets and pick up the brass. Walked over to the desk thinking he'd count the holes but when I walked out, I saw guys handing over their targets and they were just thrown away without anyone even looking at them.

The way this is going I won't be surprised if the department was moving slowly to having the Taser as our primary weapon.

I was just thinking along those lines

They got that new simulation thingy the "laser shot" system; that was (according to the OTHER blog)coming to EACH district. It was at the AREA once, and had enough time slots for only 16 people per district to go.

It's truly sad that the second largest police department in the United States doesn't have a basic equipment item, such as sufficient practice ammunition, to issue its personnel. It's also sad that it is labor intensive to locate a Chicago Police Range that is available for officers to practice pistol shooting on their own time, or even have the option to practice rifle shooting on their own time. I would bet that the majority of the personnel complaining about the ammunition shortage never used their 100 rounds of practice ammunition per year anyway. Just another Chicago Police Officer's excuse to complain about something.

Deliberate indifferance. When the city fails to provide proper range ammo and range time, and when a "bad shoot" happens (and eventually that is inevitable), then the city and PD will take it in the rear big time. Loevy & Loevy will eat this shit up. "Bad shoot, officer not properly trained in the use of his firearm, deliberate indifferance of city and brass", it all spells a windfall for the lawyers and dirtbags, while the taxpayers have to deal out big cash and the Police are left having to fork over their own hard earned money (all whopping 2% raise and all) to buy range ammo. This is fucking pathetic...

Why would they eliminate that excellent training tool? 5 minute video at roll call? How can they train the department? Now they dump the only officers trained to make and produce videos? Have they given up on the idea of training videos? How else will we hear our leaders from 35th street discuss ethics and morality? What did the departmewnt gain? 1 sgt and two officers? Another example of the finest leadership from 35th street. Howie, what happened? Repeat after me, "NO". Trying saying NO and save what is left of the academy.

I know most coppers aren't of the mindset to be open to this, but I would recommend that anyone who still works the streets be up for purchasing their own practice ammo in bullk from their uniform allowance, and practice on your own. And before you naysayers bash me here on this blog, aren't the people I mentioned a few sentences ago worth it?

Streaming Video, the only "training" we get, is gone??

Awww...in the past two weeks we've seen "Transgender Community", "Tansgender Traffic Stop" and now "Alternative Lifestyles!" Nothing like ramming this down our throats!

I can't wait to see what they've got in store the week before Bud Billiken!

It'd be nice to see something once in a while that is actually job related or more importantly, addresses officer safety.

Unfortunately the coppers on this blog suggesting that you spend your own dime and your own time training might have a point. The city (the mayor) doesn't care about you, your partner or your family. So it's squarely on you to know how to save your own skin.

Buy a box of ammo and shoot it now and then. Go to a shooting class.
www.teamspartan.com, www.womenstactical.org (say what you want, they've hosted some big name, nationally-known trainers) and www.itoa.org are good places to start.

Document your training. Get certificates from classes you've taken and keep track of your shooting practice in a notebook, because you can't depend on CPD to do it and if, God forbid the time comes, it'll be you on the stand, all by yourself, defending your actions.

...and now back to YOYO Training;

You're On Your Own!
