Next time you have a prisoner/supposed victim at a hospital who is making a scene tell the hospital staff that he is their problem. You are there to make sure he doesn't escape or commit another crime. You're not there to teach him manners.

off topic..The family of slain Chicago police Officer Michael Bailey has moved out of their Park Manor neighborhood home less than two weeks after his fatal shooting outside the residence, according to relatives, neighbors and local officials.
The officer's widow, Pamela, and his son, Michael Jr., gave away items from their home in the 7400 block of South Evans Avenue before departing Thursday, according to several neighbors. The family then placed large padlocks on the front door and gate and boarded up all of the windows on the lower level of the two-story home.

As I've mentioned in other blogs, it's a crying shame that these rotten judges didn't overturn the conviction. When reading the appeal one does see what a rotten piece of scum JFLED is. The judges mention several times, how he got the ball rolling in this case and pushed to have Cozzi prosecuted, using his influence with the G. (my words, but clearly evident in the legal opinion.) God bless Cozzi, all we can do is hope he gets released early or some miracle occurs.
On another note this ruling puts every officer that cooperated in any way on any internal investigation at risk (administrative versus criminal). The States Attorney and now the Federal judiciary have made it clear that any statement given during an Administrative Process can be used during a Criminal Proceeding. Those "disclaimer statements" given during shooting investigation aren't worth spit. Hopefully, the FOP will get on the ball and find some other method to protect the guys and gals. (Hire a legal expert as a consultant, hopefully not Pleines). In the mean time be very careful.

The judge in the case acknowledges Weis' role in sending the emails to the FBI. More nails in the J-Fled coffin.
Let the Supreme Court decide the issue over the derivative use of a compelled statement, as this seems clearly not yet settled as a matter of law. However, maybe this time kick the lawyer in the ass to make the proper arguments in the INITIAL brief, and not wait for the reply or oral brief to expand the argument. By then it is too late. You have to define the scope of the appeal up front.

No one can defend what Cozzi did.
Having said that, the sentence he has received, after already paying a penalty within the law, is indeed a travesty. What Weis did to Cozzi is even worse than the 'crime' itself.
As I sat in the courtroom on the day of his appeal hearing, like a naive fool I actually believed for a few moments that Bill had a chance. How wrong I was. Just proves again that our bosses, the mayor, judges, lawyers, and everyday citizens do not have our backs. We are on our own out there folks. God save the CPD and God Bless Bill Cozzi.

A soldier died last night. When he was young, his country asked him to go to the other side of the world and do his duty. He did it with distinction.
He came home and continued to serve the citizens of Chicago with that same distinction on this Department. Unlike the armchair soldiers, I don't think he told people about it. I saw a Ranger emblem in his locker and he explained what it was. He was a soldier once, and young.
Many of us thought he was the best Watch Commander we had ever had. After that conversation about the Rangers, I realized he was so much more. He was an honorable guy who did his job as best he could, and that was all he asked of us. Honor and duty.
I think he got sick over there from all that stuff we dropped in the jungle. He would never complain. He didn't complain about his duty. I will remember Lt. Sullivan for as long as I live and I will try to be more like him, but it is a lot to live up to.
A sin before all that is holy and a crying shame.

A long time ago in Cicero I threw one single punch to a guy who was on my property threatening my brother and got year and a day in lockup because his jaw broke and his family knew the right people in the prosecutors office.
How is it that this cop gets OVER THREE YEARS??? for basically tapping someone with a paddle sap who just spit on him? I mean, if he wanted to hurt him or knock him out he could have. He wasn't even taking swings, just like little 'pushes'. I watched the video a minute ago and it didn't seem like a big deal especially considering he had already lost his job and got sentenced in court to probation.

To Bill Cozzi I'm not a cop but I'm not a bad person and I know what it's like to do a bit of time and get out. The key is, don't let yourself get angry. Yes, you got a raw deal and you're entitled to be pissed off, but you must not let it burn you up inside or else it will consume all your thoughts. Start making plans now for your life after this chapter is closed. There are good things out there in the world and they're all waiting for you to enjoy once this is over with. Stay strong sir. Believe it or not, in time, you will look back on this and laugh. I promise. Also, Off. Cozzi was suspended without pay for two years. The prison is nearly 1,000 miles away from his loved ones.
Also note that our "leader" is a soulless alien and a sadistic coward. Occasionally, someone refers to this despised piece of shit as "J-Fed". Please don't omit the "L". It's J-FLED the "I've got your back" coward.
Finally, ignore any reference to "the wheelchair". The drunken mutt was able-bodied and NOT handicapped. Hospital security had sat him in the wheelchair for mobility purposes before Cozzi gave another unit a disregard and volunteered for the job at the E-R.
But for J-Fled, Cozzi would be working the streets tonight. Unlike J-Fled, BIll rans towards dangerous assignments which placed his fellow officers in harm's way unless and until a disregard was aired over the zone radio.
Well Ladies and Gentlemen, the Appeals Court has spoken and denied Bill Cozi appeal.
This whole chain of events can be laid at the feet of one person, our POS, cowardly, back stabbing, worthless waste of air Supt. of Police, Jody, fuckhead, Weis.
Sadly, there is nothing we can do for Bill but give him the support he will need to get through these very trying times. God will keep an eye on Bill to help him pull through this.

Wow! Just read the opinion. The court used the most tortured logic possible to reach the result it apparently wanted to reach. In its path the court jettisoned, ignored or completely misapplied the holdings in Garrity, Kastigar and Hubbell. Kastigar provides that a compelled statement cannot not even be used derivatively to initiate a prosecution. This court goes on to say that even though they assume JFled read the statements of Cozzi before he made his "tip" to his former FBI buddies that could not be considered derivative use of Cozzi's statement. Why? Because JFled was not part of the prosecution team and the prosecutors did not see the statements even if JFled did. What BS. Cozzi's attorneys should file a petition for a writ of certiorari to the SCOTUS and it should take the case. Otherwise, this case stands for the proposition that law enforcement officers do NOT have the same rights under the 5th amendment to the US Constitution as every other citizen including those accused of the most heinous crimes.

I think a better response would be to do just the bare minimum. If you do absolutely nothing, that gives the department cause to fuck with you. But if you do just the bare minimum, like what is required to get a passing grade in your evaluation, they can't touch you.

3. A method of finding him with job related PTSD should have been found and he could have been medically retired or shifted to a non sworn position in the department. PTSD is very real and it doesn't just effect the military.
4. Didn't Weis claim not to have instigated the federal charges? If someone has a link and a quote please post it.
5. Cozzi's only chance of leaving prison soon would be a Presidential commutation or pardon. Unfortunately, Presidents seldom use that power because of negative publicity.
I'd love to see the President start commuting thousands of sentences for people in Federal prison for less serious stuff.
We simultaneously have too few and too many people in our various prison systems.
6. Weis needs to be replaced immediately by an experienced Urban law enforcement professional. I have nothing against Feds in general, but this department desperately needs someone with big city experience.

STFU you moron. I'm sick and tired of all the programs and services that come along with the Dems. So the devil I know, Chicago Dems, and the "Narcissist in Chief" need to take their entitlement bull and pay for it themselves.

Many who have done much worse are working on the job today. Bad shootings, really bad beatings, car accidents etc. Cozzi just looked real bad on that video, the guy wasn't seriously hurt. Cozzi took a conviction in state court and a two year suspension. that was plenty of punishment. Fuck what the public thinks. He deserved to be back at work. Weis lost the soul of this department on that day.
