Low Polls, But No Challenger

  • More than half of Chicago voters say they don't want to see Mayor Richard Daley re-elected next year should he decide to run for a record seventh term, a new Tribune/WGN poll shows.

The mayor has been buffeted by a spate of summer violence, a weak economy and a high-profile failure to land the 2016 Olympics. Dissatisfaction abounds, the survey found, over Daley's handling of the crime problem, his efforts to rein in government corruption and his backing of a controversial long-term parking meter system lease.

As a result, the poll found only 37 percent of city voters approve of the job Daley is doing as mayor, compared with 47 percent who disapprove. Moreover, a record-low 31 percent said they want to see Daley re-elected, compared with 53 percent who don't want him to win another term.
But who's in the wings? Daley has managed to keep any potential challengers either out of the city or moved around internally so as to prevent any consolidation of power. Look at a partial list of potentials:
  • Vallas - out of town
  • Santos - felony record
  • Dart - baggage
  • Jesse Jr. - Washington DC and Blago damage
  • Hoffman - election loser
  • Emmanuel - Obama baggage
  • assorted aldercreatures - jail, baggage, etc.
There just isn't a strong contender at all.

No, we aren't running either.

No one decent would run because the machine would destroy their reputation and run them out of town. Daley will no doubt have one of his stooges run against him just for show.

Even the long time democratics and young liberals are sick of him. HOFFMAN FOR MAYOR!!!

"There just isn't a strong contender at all."

there doesn't have to be an obviously and/or overwhelmingly strong contender.

all there has to be is:

1. a contender who can survive the board of election's minefield of nominating petition challenges

2. a contender who is not easily recognized as being either a machine shill or a crony of any of the various neighborhood hucksters

3. a contender who is either active/retired CPD or active/retired CFD and does not fit the descriptions in #2.

man or woman, black, brown, white or purple, as long as he/she doesn't smell of the stench of the machine or the various 'community groups' fronting for the machine, that person will have the best shot to date of pulling off a 'cohen'.

and least we forget, 50, count them, 50 alderman seats will also be up for grabs this time around.

and the number of signatures needed to get on the ballot for these seats, in our city's legislative branch, is far less than for the mayor's fart stained chair.

John Fritchey has already been annoying Daley with his suggestions for a National Guard call-up to fight Chicago's street violence. He knows the Guard is not really the answer. He's been doing it to turn up the heat on City Hall.

Fritchey's been a state Senator for 14 years and is poised to become a Cook County Commissioner in the fall after winning election to Forrest Claypool's seat. This guy is a man to watch. He's a sincere guy who has his head in the right place, no political baggage or skeletons in the closet, and is a pro-police advocate. He's on the right side of most of the political BS in Springfield, but with Madigan controlling EVERYTHING down there, ala Daley up here, nothing gets done.

If there's a real negative side to him, I haven't heard about it yet (well, except that he's a lawyer!). I don't know if he'd even run, but he's certainly on the radar as a dark horse candidate that could win. Like most of the others, however, I wouldn't look for him to run AGAINST Daley, only if Daley retires. Past candidates who have run against the mayor have found it to be political suicide. But then again, who knows?

Mark my words, though. John Fritchey is a name you'll hear again and could be your next mayor.

This isn't a joke, so don't laugh. Beatrice Cuello is weighing her options regarding the mayoral race. She has been quietly trying to assess her support among the hispanic politicians. Like I said, don't laugh, because hispanics are fast becoming the largest voting bloc in the city. She has been told that she can easily overcome those past incidents with the daughter and her boyfriend, too. Of course, the mayor could cut that challenge off "at the knees" by appointing her superintendent. Interesting...

It's a family thing and Patrick
Daley is sequestered off-stage
being primed to take over the mayor's job if his old man decides
to step down. It's a "Daley" thing.
And it is so sad that we citizens
of Chicago have become so pathetic
that we really don't give a hoot
who runs for mayor and we won't try
to find a back an honest person for
the job. And by honest I mean someone who will at least attempt
to attend to the needs of all the
people of Chicago, regardless of
their race or neighborhood, and as
a shout-out to the Police, will let
them kick-asses and do what needs
to be done to keep the citizens safe.

Note to If I was running things:

Do you think we’re all stupid? John Fritchey is the biggest phony and opportunist in Illinois politics. Has he ever spoken out against Madigan or Daley?
You seem to have a great grasp of his resume, yet you failed to mention he’s related to the 36th ward Banks family, who run zoning in Chicago. I would think many would consider that a skeleton or “baggage”.
On another note, Miriam Santos did do time, but so did Harold Washington and we not only elected him mayor after he got out, but we named our biggest library after him. Never say never, unless were talking about Fritchey’s chance for mayor.

Tunney?

WTF are you smoking AND drinking!

According to a retired source of ours,(vice)there way too much funny shit being protected in and around boystown and no that wasn't a pun. None of it is being looked into because the gay/lesbian/transgender community is a loyal voting bloc, has a lot of money and is very noisy when anything threatens the way things are normally done.

Shortshanks knows and makes sure it is known that boystown is a no fly zone regarding any investigative activity by CPD.

Tunney ain't as friendly or as pure as the driven through snow...

FWIW...

The Northside alderfools seem to us more vicious and anti-Police than their South & West Side litter mates. The South & West Siders will literally stand on the corner and yell "fuck the Police" to all who pass by. The North Siders will shake hands to make sure you're un-armed and whispers "fuck the Police" in your ear while a confederate shanks you between the shoulder blades.

Vote all of them out.

They were too proud, fat and sassy to stand up in the open and say shit on you, your contract and your raise. The implication is shit on people who actually have to get up and work for a living in this town.

The pond we live in is tainted and anyone that the media would like would be even worse than short shanks.

All of these politicians are just too eager to give away money to people who didn't earn it by removing it from an employed persons wallet.

If a person took money from another with the threat of force, it's called robbery. If the government does it, it's called taxes.

The tea party movement is mostly made up of people who are tired of an intrusive government that takes too much of our money. But the drones and the liberal media are determined to discredit them at all costs.

Gotta love it, stand up and say you have taken enough, stop. The drones, the media, liberal politicians and even the NAACP all cry foul. BIGOTS, RACISTS, why they're "Tea-Baggers"! Now have someone who determines that not enough of your money is already taken and wants you to give even more, why they're far-sighted, visionary, they care about others.

As Margaret Thatcher said, The only problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

Before he got back into Congress, Rahm Emanuel made a lot of money serving on the board of FNMA (Fannie Mae). During that time Fannie Mae was busy running up the enormous pile of bad mortgages
which is now costing the taxpayers 100s of billion$. Fannie Mae also got caught fiddling its books to generate bogus profits so the CEO could collect a bonus. But Old Rahm "saw no evil, heard no evil, spoke no evil."

Joe Moore is a thoroughgoing sleaze. He is in bed with a bunch of crooked developers, and uses his position to harass citizens who annoy him or one of his cronies (by, say, noting code violations on
their properties, or painting their own back staircase the "wrong" color).

Just a civilian (who livss in the 49th Ward)

Neil Giuntoli, actor who wrote and starred in the long running hit play "Hizzoner".

square, on the level regular joe, knows public policy, pro police, pro law and order, pro business, but not owned by anybody.
an interesting guy, known him since we were kids, joined the Navy at 17,and went into intelligence, got out, came back home and went to work on the CME as a runner, and became a working actor.

not afraid to go toe to toe with anybody, and spit in their eye if he thinks they're a stuffed shirt.

wrote a hit play on old man Daley, and shanks screwed him. MSG, which owned the Chicago Theater wanted the show to run on State Street. Shanks put a nail in that idea, but quick.

Kass loves him, he has no experience in government, but he's a stand up guy, and maybe those are qual's enough, given the sewer that city govt has become.

Neil Giuntoli, an outsider, right out of the blue. That would rock the boat. look into him.
