Mayoral Challengers

  • Freshman Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd) said Friday he’s seriously considering running for mayor — whether or not Mayor Daley seeks a seventh term — because he’s fed up with the corruption, waste and mismanagement that have dogged the Daley era.

A new poll released Saturday suggests he may not be the only one.

Many of the names we cited the other day popped up in the Sun Times article.

But here's the serious question - how many of our readers are registered to vote? Because unless we have a presence in the voting booth, we aren't going to have any impact on the election and the any input on the direction of any changes that might happen.

We heard FOP was going to have Unit Reps as deputy registrars or whatever they are calling them nowadays. If true, we have yet to see any concerted effort to have cops (and their families) registered to vote. If the under-25% number is correct, then the registrars really ought to be busy as hell over the next few months getting people signed up.

Anyone have any info?

I've voted in every election sice I have been 18 years old. My father faught in the jungles of Vietnam, and he always "drilled the civic responsility into my head: VOTE." Too many American soldiers have died to preserve that right. Too many black Americans lost their lives in the civil rights era to gain that right. America's founding fathers acted on an idea and defeated the most powerful Military of that time to give us that right. It's a damn shame when I hear people (especially fellow officers) say that they don't vote & really don't care. It's time to wake up people, and vote every Incumbant out, including Shortshanks! It's time to take back America from the progressives that have been flushing this country down the toilet. And for those who still don't care: DON'T Bitch when your hard work goes towards higher taxes, and wealth redistribution!

All Unit Reps and Watch Reps who showed up early for a recent meeting were trained and sworn in to register anyone to vote, on the spot, with a look at an ID.

Problem is, with coppers loathe to admit they are not registered, many will not admit they are not registered to vote.

I work in a District in A3, I have not had one officer admit he or she is not registered to vote, not one.

So where are they all?

One PO told me maybe they don't want to go to jury duty for those notices go out from the rolls of registered voters.

Maybe FOP needs to make a list of those officers who are unregistered and do a targeted mailing to them and have their Unit Reps go to them and at least try to sign them up.

Some of us have family members who died and/or shed their blood to defend our right to vote in elections. I know I do.

Do not squander this right! Get registered to vote!

Just a comment on the post from Saturday regarding Daley's low pole numbers and the search for a viable candidate to run against him.

I'm reminded of how incredibly disconnected the police profession really is. Somewhere in the vicinity of 25 to 30 names of possible candidates, including the ones cited by SCC in the original post, were mentioned. I'm assuming that the Hamburgler, Bozo The Clown, Mr. Magoo and a disinterred Al Capone were not REALLY serious suggestions, but as each name was mentioned, they were just as quickly shot down.

"Are you kidding me? he's from the ___ Ward" or "He's just another machine hack" or "blah, blah, blah".

And that, my friends, is how the Daley Crime Family stays in power election after election, and why we can expect his wonderful direction for Chicago and the CPD for years to come.

Besides, the only names that will matter anyway, are the ones who choose to run and put their names in play . . . all of our commenting here is only a waste of time.

HOLY CRAP ! ? !

Anyone else notice at the end of the Sun-Times article, the link to "No Guns For Negroes" From CRIME, GUNS, AND VIDEOTAPE.

That's a very anti-gun ban post that would also make it a very anti-Daley post.

What's up with the editors at the Sun-Times? Didn't they get their check this month from the Daley Crime Family slush fund?

You just do not have a valid reason to not vote. It is so easy to register and early vote---how can you not take the opportunity! Then, when your guy loses, you really have something to gripe about.

Shame on everyone of us that isn't registered.
I vote in every election, it may sound corny but many people around the world can't vote, and too many men and women have given their lives to secure our right to vote.

Also, I usually vote against the incumbent.

Those of us who vote...Let's keep in mind to kinda focus in on ONE potential candidate, and not spread the vote around on potential many. Shanks may slide on in yet again on his 31% approval rating (31% of the vote).
I am surprised that with all the sarcastic and funny comments I read here (you have to be smart to be both,) all the working police can do is just grumble, complain and comment on problems, without acting or suggesting solutions.

The easiest way to register is motor-voter. The Secretary of State's office is required to offer to let you register whenever you renew or change your license. Since this has been going on since 1993, anyone with an IL license who isn't registered has actively refused to register.

For the person who hasn't moved their license to IL yet, that's the easiest way. You'd need to move your license anyway, so just register when you do it.

Good comment about the registration. Reminds me of the old saying, "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."

On a related note, there simply CANNOT be 5 (random number) wannabes running against Daley or he'll get in again. Everyone needs to get behind one single front-runner candidate (call him/her the anti-Daley) even if that individual isn't the first or even second choice. Any more than one--DemoRAT or GOP--Daley's a lock yet again.

In fact, I'll be there will be some secret Daley money flowing to several such contenders, the true source of which will remain unknown even to the contenders themselves, in an attempt to ensure Daley faces multiple opponents.

Yes, every American citizen should vote, because so many soldiers have died for that very right. So go out and vote! But, be careful who you vote in, because the last mayor said change is coming and it was "their" turn, he turn this city into shit! The bond rating went right into the toilet! Nothing got done! Nothing! It was worse then Gary, Indiana! So make sure its the candidate you really want in, because he or she will be and do good for ALL of the citizens of this great city of ours!

99.9% of the excuses are just plain bullshit!

So go vote or shut the fuck up!

----------------------------------

If Daley doesn't get 50% + 1, he'll have to face the second place winner in a runoff.

Keeping his vote below 50% during the first round will force him to go one on one in the runoff.

Changing this election law after the vote was split 3 ways in 1983 may come back to bite him in the arse.

I am a unit rep in A3. I am authorized and sworn in to register new voters.

If anyone wants to register to vote, police or civilian, email me at police@cxq.com and I will meet you at Belmont & Western, southeast parking lot and get you registered. Just email and tell me when: police@cxq.com

I will register you on the spot, bring picture ID and some proof of residency, drivers license etc.

Or, go to the web site of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners and do it yourself:

You can register to vote at any voter registration drive in the state. Il voter registration databases are now maintained by the state, not by the counties. All you need is proof of age and residence like a driver's license. Any IL voter registrar can sign you up in any IL county. Try a Secretary of State "express office" and take care of it there. If you go out to the DuPage County Fair, there is usually a voter registration booth there.

O.T. How can aldermen be so damn dumb?

The other night one of them had her purse, containing her aldermanic credentials, among other things, stolen OUT OF HER CAR. The D/C was hovering around, kissing ass like there was no tomorrow.

A couple of weeks before that, one of her counterparts left, in addition to other things, a laptop containing city business IN HER CAR. (15th District)

Both in high-crime areas.

Don't these idiots see we're way too short personnel to clean up after these "volunteer victims"?

I'm glad to hear that someone has the balls to run against King Richie. I've been tracking Waguespack since he came in. He's a decent guy who's pro police and made it very clear at caps meeetings as well as publicly. He's always being whipped by the rest of the city concil and the mayor for always opposing them. (check his record out!) He's always tipping the media on scandles too. We need a candidate of his caliber with no baggage to hang him on. A canidate who totally despises the Daley administration and will have a open book transparent view of all city transactions, contracts, etc... for the public to view and critique. I know personally he's discusted with how things operate with this city. Remember, we'll also have to vote for 26 new alderman, this is what you need to get anything passed in the city council. We all have to register and vote or we're ALL DOOMED!!!! I hope that the FOP along with the other labor unions in this city wake up and get their act together and put together a city wide labor ticket for every spot available in this election. At the very least, this will wake up these bastards and realize that they better start taking care of the people who keep this city running and safe or they'll all be on the other side of things, screwed just like us! Give Scott a chance. He's definitely better than what we have BIGTIME!

OT:

City sticker display deadline extended to July 30th AKA stickers-that-don't-adhere-and-will-be-replaced-at-no-charge-except-to-the-taxpayers.

Could it possibly be that someone used sub-par materials (and made a hefty profit) and now the "city" will have to cover the cost of "free" sticker replacements?

Another questionable Daley Deal.
