While You're Under the Bus...

  • Mayor Daley suspended his revenue director Tuesday over a memo to the police department warning that ticket writing is down — calling it “stupid.”

Revenue Director Bea Reyna-Hickey was suspended for a day over the Aug. 10 memo that told police the city “will witness a dramatic decrease in annual revenues and not meet 2010 targets” if a slump in parking tickets and vehicle-compliance tickets continues.

“Stupidity. It was stupid. Just stupid. Some bureaucrat sent that out,” Daley said at an unrelated news conference. “The revenue department has nothing to do with the police department, period. They [officers] will determine whether you violated a law. No one else can. Especially revenue can’t.”

Shanks is rambling again. Someone up his meds.

Gee, I thought the police department was the only city agency with a nitwit named Bea!

Some bureaucrat that Daley promotes and moves from department to department. But I'm sure he never heard of her.

Everyone knows that Daley puts the pressure on the ones below him and they pass it on down to the troops. Nearly everyday at roll call the WC tells us we need more tickets. Funny how the media believes everything Daley says. The media is either stupid or thinks Daley is the most honest man in the world. We are so short handed and you can't do more with less. Common sense.

Nice to see the strong words from Orr. Too bad Fitz has his head so far up Barry and Daleys ass he can't see the sun. Interesting how this memo seems to coincide with the EB edict of 10 lowest performing officers in the district. Now you have supervisors all the from Sgt. to Commanders putting heat on PO's to generate "activity" aka revenue. I have a sure fire way to raise MILLIONS in parking revenue. The streets all along wth south and west siders are FILLED with double parkers. Thousands of cars every Sunday in front of the latest "store front walk-up churches." If I was a PO who was counseled I'd write as many parkers as I could and DARE the Commander to take issue with me. In fact I'd pray for it. I'd retire with a fat fucking federal lawsuit check and sue the Commander and city for creating a hostile work environment.

A day suspension. Give me a break. P.O.'s are getting suspensions like Bay Bay be gitting hot chips and red pop from his local Arab storeon his aunties Link Card. This is bullshit. Bringing news that is controversial to little big man warrants at a least a 3 day suspension. Look how many days that RW took for the airport fiasco. I guess Bea has more clout than anyone on the CPD.

Nice to see the strong words from Orr.
========================
Ex-(acting)Mayor and present County Clerk David Orr refered to the "millions and millions' that have been stolen by City Hall. Predictably, Fran Spielman forgot what every first-year journalism student knows to ask: "Who? What? When? Where? How?" (We already know Why.) Would have been great to hear David elaborate.

Makes sense? All he did was throw another employee under the bus for all the media to see. And the employees mistake? Following her boss (Daley's) orders.

Maybe we should all carry a copy of the article around so in case we get called into the W/C's office to be chewed out for lack of ticket writing, we could quote Daley that "It's not about the money".

Don't believe the hype.

That leprechaun asshole decided to let that "slip" out to the public/media so there'd be something else to be mad at the police about. "You all are so greedy, you broke the city even more with your new contract/raise/retro, now you won't even help by writing more parking tickets."

It was okay if it was going to make people hate the police more.

It backfired.

So someone had to take the fall for it.

Wait... WHAT?????
I see Dept of Revenue issuing tickets all over the City!
And Lil Dick, YOU want to point a finger and call someone a "Bureaucrat"? Talk about the pot calling the kettel black.

I am not the police but have been a business owner in Edgewater for 27 years. I don't know who to talk to, but have seen the Thorndale/Broadway area turn I to a war zone. Numerous police frequent my business and turned me on to this sight. Yesterday for 25 minutes over a 2 square block area, there were multiple people shooting at each other and no beat cops to be found. Could someone tell the beat cop that his job is on Thorndale not writing parking tickets near my house at Touhy and Sacramento. I pay taxes too!!!!!!!

Whatever fees and fines generated by The Police should be a tertiary consideration after public safety and law enforcement. Not a means solely unto it's own end.

If you read my posts it says he was writing one of my cars and as I was getting into my second car I asked him if I could move it which he replied "It's to late and ran up and zapped my second plate with his plate reader ticket writer." and WTF would filing a complaint against a civilian in a bright green vest do I still have to pay the ticket. Whatever you may believe if you read all my posts, like I said if he got the first car already written fine I'll pay (sign or no sign posted) but to be a dick a write the second car as I was getting ready to move it is being a dickhead to me. My post was started not about me trying to get out of the tickets, it was about these civilian ticket writers hitting up every car for every bullshit violation that they could think of in the tax paying neighborhoods (too afraid to go to the ghetto). So only Mr. Gianfrancisco, myself and other pissed off neighbors know what time it happened, that there were no signs anywhere near posted and this jagoff was unprofessional.

It's always been a war zone, with occasional interruptions for condo development, "Contagious" discotheque getting torn down, CAPS frenzies, etc. It always comes back to its own level.

What a laugh I got last time I was over there -- a beautiful park was built on the southwest corner of Thorndale and Sheridan Road. For the old people up in the high-rises there? Hell no, place jammed with cocky-ass M/1 gangbangers who'd taken it over completely. They don't play much chess on those little tables...I wouldn't go near it without a lot of help with me.
