Interesting...we just lost a bunch of people from 011 "detailed out" to MSF. With very little notice...they started today (Sunday) and the district got a fax maybe last night, maybe the night before. So once again, district law enforcement takes it in the a**. It's all smoke and mirrors, folks. Move along. Nothing to see here.

If I'm getting this right, WBBM Radio is reporting that three officers were struck by the suspect's automobile in this incident. The scum waits for the officers to approach his car, and then steps on the gas.

Too many of these lately. Going to have to start blocking them in with spike strips or something.

Officer 1 aims shotgun or M-4 at driver.

Officer 2, off to one side, opens strip case and tosses cord with heavy, bright rubber ball attached across front of car to

Officer 3, who makes the catch, pulls cord towards him and completes deployment of strip. That way, no one has to walk in front of the car.

Very tired now, this is just off the top of my head. We can't keep having them charging the police the way they have been, like Irving/Marmora. This is crazy. Got to be a better way. Just a part-finished idea, maybe it will do someone some good.

Maybe CPD squads need those bumper rams like so many suburban departments have...block them in that way.

If an artery was hit you are better off waiting for paramedics. You can bleed out in a squad car going to a hospital.

I was at a police officer shot just minutes from the old Cook County Hospital. Paramedics made the right moves, officer lives today.

Great job by all involved, from the officers calling out the chase, the Sgt. from 011 that let it go, to the response, yes it did take the ambo awhile to get there, 2 engines showed up first, also a big great job to the copper who used his blue shirt as a turnicate on the shot officers leg. Also to 012, that did a great job blocking off the route to stroger, and the Sgt. coordinating it; if it's the same one, he also came out and gave the pos waiting an update as soon as the info was known, and didn't leave us hanging. Great job all around, made me proud to be CPD!

as far as having to wait on an ambulance for the police fuck that, I know that there are at least a few military guys on each watch. I know I carry a field kit similar to the one I carried in the Marines. Someone get in the back, use the med kit and get him to a hospital. What's the problem? I still remember how to make a tourniquet out of a belt, I still remember how to seal a sucking chest wound, I still remember how to clean and wrap a bullet wound. I'm no fuckin' doctor, but I was taught over 15 years ago how to but on big band aids. Most hospitals with good trauma units are less that 30 minutes away and we have these little cool things called radios that can be used to let other officers know to close off every street on the way to the hospital or don't we do those things here?

If not properly stabilized a leg wound like this, or a other serious GSW can be made worse by bad or rough handling. A thigh wound could rupture the femoral artery and hemorrhage before you get two blocks. You might want your "dumb ass" to be bundled off in a squad car but you don't want to arrive at the E-R as a dead ass.

Car chases are not worth it!

Coppers in Illinois and other states have been criminally charged under murder/homicide laws after civilians were killed in car chases. Some of those coppers have been convicted. And in this cespool county, you could even be charged if the shithead is killed.

Forget about the punitive liability that falls on your head if a civilian is killed, if you are charged with a serious felony, even when you KNOW you are innocent, you will bankrupt yourself and your family trying to stay out of jail.

Unless that car contains a cop killer or a legitimately kidnapped kid, it is not worth chasing.

Years ago the department put in rules to basically ban car chases. Realizing how stupid those rules are, the department has not enforced them the last few years, but do not think for one minute that this department will not drop every one of those rules on your head when a reverand's momma is killed by a fleeing felon.

When you chase these animals, you have no control over what they are going to do. And no one will hold them accountable for their actions, they'll hold you accountable.

I wish God's speed on the officer's recovery. I don't fault him for doing his job and doing it courageously. But, I cannot stand to see so many coppers repeatedly tempt fate by engaging in traffic pursuits for a city and a department that has shifted all responsiblity onto an officer that has absolutely no control over the outcome.

Don't take the bait. You won't know how not worth it these chases are until it's too late.

Eh, yeah, another armchair quarterback heard from. Yeah that used to be the right thing to do. Anyone with more than 15 years or so on would possibly follow this path of action due to the emergent circumstance.

But you forget where you are there office, you forget where you work and the type of officer the shitheads downtown have been turning out for the last 8 or 10 years.

Don't you think for one second that, god forbid, in the event that officer is further injured due to your transport or that they even expire inside your squad car that you and your family will not be suffering for years afterwards at the hands of the "new and improved" CPD officer (read rat) or this officer's family who are trying to take everything you own and that of your family for typing to help this guy.

Folks, the rat fuck patrol downtown thought it best to train a ship full of seagoing rats and for the last few years this is what they've been churning out. Don't think things are like they used to be, where your good intentions are understood and accepted as the right thing to do, with these new police, they are not.

Today's new CPD officer has the same "get rich quick" mentality that every other west side shithead has, and they could care less that they use YOU to do it.

If you trust your partner to that extent and he in turn trusts you to that extent by all means do it right. But if you see a fellow officer shot on the street that you have no personal knowledge of or particular trust in, you follow the law of the land and get CFD there as soon as is humanly possible.

Your idea of "good samaritan", while being the right thing to do, could cost you and your family your job and their home thanks to the extensive training by CPD brass to instill upon every trainee that those other officers around you are a threat to your livelihood.

To answer the question.....

As CPD you have the choice of being transported to any hospital approved for city transport. Of course, as in this case it has to be a Trauma Center. The medics were going to hop on the Stevenson to take the officer to Northwestern, but the officer asked to go to County.

Also, taking the officer on your own can be risky, but that is an option. Most CFD engines and trucks that show up first have the same equipment and a medic, but obviously can not transport.

SCC,

Working out in DuPage County now and heard the chase on ISPERN. Switched over to to Zone 10 to listen direct. I had a recruit in the car who could not believe what he was hearing. When the Shots Fired and PO Down reports were announced our hearts sank.

When I was with CPD special equipment was sparse at best. Out here we are both equipped and armed to the max. Unfortunately during these times we need to be prepared. If the PD won't do it spend some personal money to save your life.

Take some first-aid training and buy a military grade IFAK (Individual First Ais Kit) for your duty bag. Years ago I had a friend shot in the leg by an SKS rifle. If the first sergeant on scene hadn't been a former paramedic my buddy would have died.

It's sad that The Job now requires such training and equipment, but in these times of doing more with less preparedness is key.

God Bless Our Brothers and Sisters in Blue.

dude, where do you get your info? please guys DO NOT LISTEN TO THAT ADVICE, put pressure on it/tourniquet/whatever, treat yourself and get to the hospital if your able to. we need to stop relying on others to help/treat/take care of us. basic police trauma classes are everywhere, go take a 4 hour class and learn the basics. Time is something you DO NOT have if an artery is hit. Large amounts of cops nationwide would be here today if they did something/anything to mitigate their wounds instead of sitting there waiting for the paramedics. get out of that ancient/outdated mindset, please!!! be an active participant in your own survival. One thing that should be on the wall in every station around where people will see it -- roll call, locker room -- is the simple wall chart that looks like a silhouette target but has the "pressure points" to stop bleeding. If you see it every day, it'll stay with you better.

Yeah, every soldier since I don't know when has been issued with some type of field dressing to carry. I'm not real up on this but there have been some major advances; a new dressing with a powder that stops bleeding very rapidly, and new combat uniforms that actually have built-in tourniquets sewn right in so they're right there all the time.

Some Army surplus outfits wanted as much as $100. Yes, the City should issue these and we should all be trained as first responders in case of catastrophic injusies but we should self-train or take classes in the meantime.

God Bless and stay safe.

There is a lot of information and videos on line to tell you how to use these items. A good reference is the 'combat lifesaver course' which you can download as a powerpoint online. Find a veteran of Iraq or Afghanistan and they will square you away.
