Did We Miss Something?

  • Chicago police officials have moved about 150 officers from one of the department's crime-suppression units into the most dangerous districts to focus on the violent crime plaguing those streets, officials said.

The so-called saturation teams have been divided across the department's five geographic areas and float around the districts as needed when crime heats up.

But a recent review of arrests for the teams showed they were not always tackling the violent crimes happening in the communities they were assigned to. Officials said they were also concerned that the teams were often operating under the direction of a sergeant, not an ideal for monitoring officer conduct.

So now the teams -- 145 officers and 12 sergeants -- are being assigned to the districts with the most calls for police and the highest rates of violent crime. They will answer to district commanders, who will decide where to send them, police said.

We thought their details were canceled. That means the officers returned to their districts of assignment. What the Breaking News site is reporting sounds an awful lot like what the Department just disbanded - an Area wide team that responded to hot spot.

And what the heck was this quote?
  • Officials said they were also concerned that the teams were often operating under the direction of a sergeant, not an ideal for monitoring officer conduct.
And who exactly do the anonymous "officials" think the officers were reporting to? Have they no knowledge of the chain of command? Officers report to Sergeants. Sergeants report to Lieutenants. Lieutenants fall under the oversight of Captain. It's called a "chain of command." Who wrote this press release and how drunk were they when it was released?

I just examined the City budget. I saw district managers are in it. Over $3.5 million to CAPS. Exempts making on average over $150,000 a year. These are just numbers in terms of salary that do not include City pension contributions, health care, vacation benefits, etc. As a PO I could cut $30 million without blinking an eye. Transparency in government is always amazing. THE PENSION IS GOING TO GO BANKRUPT WITHOUT ACTION TO ELIMINATE THIS WASTE.

OFF TOPIC....

Jody had a news conference on the wrong incident. Just to show you how incompetent these people are. IAD stripped 7 coppers and knew that ther incident happened out south. However, JFED spent more time planning a press conference than taking time to find out what incident he was talking about and had a press conference talking about an non-incident in 001. IPRA is going crazy on this one.

is there any truth to this??? if so whats the deal with the 7 coppers stripped and for what? what a joke weis and this department is... this was from a post yesterday.

This is total bullshit. The saturation teams reported to a sergeant who got their deployment orders from the Area Deputy Chief who is higher in the food chain than the district commanders.. Contrary to what the story reads the Officers returned to their districts of assignment. Which means if officers in area 4 that were deployed from 010, 011,012 & 013 were always in 011 now those officers went back to where ever they were detailed from which means that 011 lost 12 bodies. So instead of being deployed to 011 while on saturation they went back to yuppyville in 012 and 013 etc.... Oh well? Officers weren't really hurt.

It's incredible but I grew up in Englewood, basically poor white trash. It was so much fun to watch an episode of LITB, which was more like a time capsule of our past. People weren't ignorant. They didn't waste their time watching TV for hours and hours.

We never lived like the Cleavers but it was kinda nice to see how to act and behave. Our homes weren't perfect but they were clean. We had to IMPROVE ourselves to reach the level of the Cleavers. Wally and the Beve didn't have to even THINK about anything like gangs, dope, guns, police or jail. Girls stuffed their bras, kids were polite and everything could be fixed with an ice cream cone.

Everyone used to say things like "60 years from now we'll be going to work in our flying cars and robots will take care of us." Instead of better, we have this awful reality. Living in a city that is teetering on chronic civil disobedience. A city full of people standing with their hands out, waiting for money they never earned.

God bless Mrs. Billingsly for setting a benchmark in a time between WWII and Vietnam. Kids could be kids and we all hoped to make the world a better place. We now know that the days of Ward and June were possibly the pinnacle of our culture in America.

Those were the days.

THE TRUTH:
Arrest activity DID go down in a certain Area when they put this wiz kid in charge of 'predicting crime" They put these guys in 2x2 boxes and they were told not to leave. Even if nothing was happening in the box, the guys were told that was considered a success since no one got shot in their box. Truthfully. Sgt's DID bitch about cops being held to boxes and that activity was suffering, but the exempts said activity was not important - be VISIBLE. Also, certain areas had a CAPS Lt. in charge, moving these guys around for CAPS related bullshit and running personal errands at HER whim. They don't want good Sgt's being in charge, but it's ok for CAPS Lt's who were supposed to be in charge to never be around?? I have no problem with disbanding the unit (nothing lasts forever), but don't blame it low activity and por supervision, blame it on the stupid f**** at HQ

For the person saying we need to keep coppers in the homefront.Couldnt agree more butthe problem is 016 is coming in with such bs arrests ,the brass dont think theres a problem. The commander isnt gonna say anything ,that makes him look like shit. If the guys in 016 would start coming in with good shit besides drinkers,1 baggers ,then they would have an argument. They actually have a few good guys there with around 15 up to 25 or so, years still working. But the young guys that started out there are useless ,they dont listen and dont wanna learn. So you would think bangers would stop at Belmont knowing all coppers live in 016. Heres an interesting thing I heard .There are more off duty related felony arrests ,than those made by pos actually on tour, thats a fact in 016. Its something like 70 percent of felony activity is called in bu off duty pos.

Oh and by the way there are NO High Schools in the 23rd District and the one semi HS we have already have 2 PO's assigned to it. The day needs to come when we put this union back together. Those who decide to voluntarily leave patrol are responsible for weakening contract protections for the rest of us. This includes tact and gang teams and the now former sat teams. They're not the same as ETs or dicks who at least took a test to get where they are. Too many officers are using their clout to make things better for themselves at the expense of the rest of us.

I propose that those who have left patrol should no longer get the protection of patrol. Tact or gang teams who need the police can simply pull out their phone and call 911 like any other shitbird. We'll get to them as time permits.

I watch the weather channel, news (Al Jazeera, 6 PM on Channel 20-3, I think, is one of the best in the world) -- and LITB, Andy Griffith, and other black-and-white shows from the time when programs ended with that "seal of approval" from the National Association of Broadcasters; a notation that the show met some kind of standards. Enough is enough, he's gotta go, even if Emanuel becomes the next Mayor. I'm sure Rahm can find a suitable space under the Mayoral desk for someone with 3M's unique talents after he's been sworn in. A Former Sgt. by the name of Larry Watson, now a new Lt. will be back too, He will most likely run the new platoon. I feel it's better to boost MSF because at least when they come into a district, whatever problems exist with district coppers who feel that thier arrests will be taken or stolen by MSF, TRU or whoever is Baseless, I would welcome the help, especially when the do nothing Dog Asses, which every district has never help you out. Remember it's not these coppers in specialized units fault that they are assigned there, under the MSF system anyone can interview to get there and believe what you want, but it's about 95% legit in getting there, I'm a Sgt there and I see it all, strap on a pair of balls and get yourself into a unit and appreciate when extra help comes to your district. If advancement on the job is held up for lack of clout, then just stay where you are. You can then concentrate on other things in life, like friends and family. If that doesn't do it for you, enroll in college. Hell, at least if you do that you can get the city to pay for it!

Tell you friends to go to copswritingcops.com and call out this guy...

If you're ever going south to Louisville, make sure to drive the limit once you leave Indy, and continue south on I65. Martinsville is no place to get pulled over, even for a white man!

STAY SAFE

Well then I guess it's all legit. The Sgt said so! LOL!

I've been stopped by officers out of state a bunch. I take motorcycle trips and speed quite often. Sometimes I get the professional courtesy, sometimes I get the ticket. Mostly I have gotten the break and an admonition to slow down. If I get the ticket, oh well, I am a big boy, I know the rules.

That's how it works.

If any CPD officers don't realize that when you speed, at home or in a foreign jurisdiction, you or your family have the possibility of receiving a citation, well you should know that.

The eternal and all encompassing cloak of traffic violation invincibility for police officers and their family just doesn't exist. Don't get pissed because some officer somewhere else does their job.

Personally, I got fed up years ago of stopping the second cousin twice removed of a retired cop I never heard of and I was expected to bend over to let that person go after committing numerous traffic offenses.

The professional courtesy goes only to coppers and only occasionally family members in their own jurisdiction. Only if they are polite and if they are not drunk and if they have not injured anyone else.

Drive carefully is the best way.

Indiana state police wrote my daughter a ticket she said she was just passing another car i asked how fast daughter said 80 in a 70 but trooper wrote her for 90in a 70 zone. My daughter told her I was cpd why did she write my kid? MAYBE BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER DESERVED THE TICKET AND IT MAY OF PREVENTED MY DAUGHTER FROM GETTING KILLED/INJURED! Sorry no sympathy from me, think about why? We are all stopped some coppers also who are big jagoffs, the star out the window, the "you know who I am type", Maybe just maybe the coppers stopped were being jagoffs! Personally i have been stopped in Indiana and let go,but about 4 years ago i was stopped in Indiana going 30 OVER and the young copper wrote me a ticket, did he have to know but 30 over was excessive! Do I write coppers NEVER, am I mad at every other copper in a town where a member of their dept writes other coppers no!

Forget the point about chain of command.

The real point here is that the writer is working from the assumption that strong monitoring of officers should be a top priority. Who cares about the gangbangers slaughtering one another - the real concern is that cops are gonna be bad.

Such a casual assumption in so much of the press.

M plates on a Sheriffs car ?

What happened to the Sheriff plates ?'

ASA cars don't have 'Sheriff' plates. Those plates only go on CCSD cars! Jesus, working coppers on duty in a SQUAD CAR being cited for traffic while running prisoners back and forth? Is this what this job has come to, when we can't even respect one another, or provide each other with a MINIMUM of professional courtesy? The only comforting thing about this is in knowing that Chicago doesn't have a monopoly on hiring idiots.

Watch for a young hispanic PO on the Evergreen Park PD when driving through that suburb. This kid plays 95th & 99th st. and swoops down on everyone. He's well hidden until he emerges from his hidey holes. Remind your loved ones to drive the speed limit when you go through there, even when the speed limit drops down to 25mph on some streets.

I've read the "outrage" over cops writing cops with some outrage of my own. Why, oh why, should a police officer get a break for speeding, etc., when a civilian would not? Could it be his/her superior driving skills? Nope, don't think so unless he/she is a graduate of something like the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving.

I was driving up the Interstate in Florida several years ago when I damn' near got run over by a Ford Windstar van with New Jersey plates driven by a slob on a cell phone with his wife's fat ass in the windshield while she was turned around whaling on one of the kids in the back. I managed to get out of his way before he actually hit my back bumper and watched with amazement as he weaved in and out of traffic at a stupid rate of speed, endangering not only his . Being a good citizen, I called the phone number for the Highway Patrol to report a possible drunk driver. A State Trooper passed me with lights and siren a very short time later, closed on the maniac in the Windstar, then shut off his lights and siren, dropped back and exited. When I expressed my disgust, my wife asked, "What did you expect? He had an FOP badge on his plate and a police department sticker in his back window."

Guys, the law is for everyone, remember? Isn't "clout" something you complain about? Same thing.

Be careful in Kentucky also. Couple of years ago on a family vacation, my wife got a ticket from a Kentucky State Trooper. We were both polite and respectful. I said that I was CPD and showed him my star and Id, but it made no difference.

There are 2 districts in the city without a homicide. 014 is one of those districts. Stop bitching. 014 is now a retirement district. But, you would not know that, because you have never done a lick of police work.

What does that mean? Tell your loved ones to drive the speed limit? You mean your loved ones speed every where and need to be reminded? How many ODPO drive through Evergreen Park at a high rate of speed? Why? How many serious violations must Evergreen Park or other suburbs ignore from ODPO? Where is the common sense? We are our own worse enemies.
