Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis did the right thing by stripping six officers and a sergeant of their police powers because one of them stands accused of punching a suspect in handcuffs as the others “watched,” Mayor Daley said today.
“That’s unacceptable conduct. That’s unacceptable here or anyplace else. . . . I’m glad the superintendent did what is necessary,” Daley told reporters after dedicating a $10 million campus park at Marshall Metro High School at 3250 W. Adams.
But the sergeant accused of beating the suspect doesn’t appear to have done anything wrong, according to his attorney, Robert Kuzas, who spoke to him after he was stripped of his police powers Friday.
“This is the superintendent’s office putting the cart before the horse without any investigation,” Kuzas said.

We are not able to be the police and we are being placed in grave danger because the criminal element knows they can get away with it. How many of us are getting killed and battered. I know that LA and NY has been overly hard on their officers for a number of years and freely suspend them with what it seems little evidence and petty incidents. But, I never thought it would come to this town and this department. I would probably have been fired a long time ago along with just about every good cop that I new. If you spit on me, I was going to clock you, period. But, if the person is in handcuffs and in custody, well that is a different story. Then, you have to use restraint. The departmetn should buy those plastic face shields that hospitals put on the face of " spitters" while they are in the ER. I am not trying to judge these officers because I know nothing of the circumstances and also in turn I cannot judge Weiss based on the same criteria.

Really???? A similar incident happened in a county court house lock up in which some parts of it was caught on camera. Officer was stripped and locked up on criminal charges!!

I was working Area 4 about 25 years ago and they built and dedicated a peoples park there It was dedicated to the neighborhood and actually had a 011 district squad protecting it Wasnt long before it went to crap and turned into a vacant weed infected lot

You know, I have not looked into Tom Dart's background very much, but I will say that his repeated stand on these robot-signed foreclosures has shown more simple, honest concern for ordinary people than anything I've heard from any other politician.

The Sergeant had every right to adjust the attitude of that thug who decided to share his DNA. In fact, it's self defense. How many times did that thug spit and continue to spit in the Sgt's direction?
What would any normal thinking self confident citizen do in such a case? I'm sure if that thug did that to one of his peers, he would have been shot at or at least severely beaten.
SSBH avoided a direct question posed to him in regards to how fast that "this one case" caused him to react so quickly. It was on Channel 9 this morning. They (WGN morning news crew) have officers who give them the inside scoop under anonymity and it was obvious that the news crew knew the truth. SSBH just won't reveal that the thug in question is really in fact an offspring to an IPRA investigator.

I am sitting in my car and cheering at the news radio about the fact that 2 PO's have been given back their police powers. This whole incident is about the son of an IPRA employee being a drunk asshole and throwing a can of beer at the police. Then the scumbag spits in the face of the Sergeant. I understand he was in cuffs but my guess would be that more than 90% of us would crack this guy in the head in reaction. Yeah yeah yeah you can me a Monday morning quarterback and say whatever you want. The bottom line is that this was NOT a beating!! This was a reflex reaction and the punishment should fit the crime. Now the other PO's who witnessed this incindent were put in a no win situation. This should also be taken into consideration as well. Maybe these PO's really did not think what happened constituted a criminal offense of battery. Maybe these PO's all have common sense and did not think any bad really happened. Is this how the feds conduct an investigation? Charge the officers before all of the evidence is collected. He stated on WGN that the officers still had a job and never lost pay. What about the emotional stress and loss of face in the district? Imagine being stripped by Jfled? After what he did to Cozzi anyone would have suffered enormous stress even for a few days. Like it or not most of us joined this department because of a need to make it a personal responsibility to take the thugs off the street and help the weak

Boy oh boy am I glad that I have retired. I know that LA and NY has been overly hard on their officers for a number of years and freely suspend them with what it seems little evidence and petty incidents. But, I never thought it would come to this town and this department. I would probably have been fired a long time ago along with just about every good cop that I new. If you spit on me, I was going to clock you, period. But, if the person is in handcuffs and in custody, well that is a different story. Then, you have to use restraint. The departmetn should buy those plastic face shields that hospitals put on the face of " spitters" while they are in the ER. I am not trying to judge these officers because I know nothing of the circumstances and also in turn I cannot judge Weiss based on the same criteria.

Boy, I am glad you retired, too! You clearly judge the officer's actions and then claim you are not trying to judge them because you know nothing of the circumstances! Impeach yourself much? So just shut the fuck up asshole and go play shuffle board or go bitch at the pool about the condo board, but put a gag on your typing fingers and stay off of the blog. Jerk. You must have been a real joy to have as a partner in the beat car. And it is KNEW, not NEW.
Remember one thing, no arrests then we don't need as many lawyers or judges and the alderman and mayor need to answer for all the out of control crime that plagues our city...

The mayor and aldermen won't need to answer for anything! They'll simply say "Look, arrests are down. The crime rate hasn't gone up, crime's not out of control! You're just imagining things Joe Public!" They can manipulate the stats and the message to show the public whatever they want. And it sure won't be "arrests are down because we need more police and a new Supt."
Great, now let’s all run to watch Stuperintendent J-Fled on CBS today to listen to more of his pearls of wisdom. Better yet, let’s just have an impromptu media event wherein he can look like a bigger buffoon than he had at the last. Does he really believe that taking officers from neighborhoods that are already depleted and putting them in higher crime areas is going to change anything when if an officer is accused of any allegation they are immediately stripped? We have had more officers stripped for unsubstantiated allegations than anytime in the history of the Chicago Police Department. Does he really believe there is no morale issue? To deny the protector is to deny the protected. Protect your family and friends fine officers; let the rulers protect themselves and their naïve subjects.
