Dig Deeper Chicago

  • Chicago street parking rates are going up -- again.

The third of five scheduled annual rate increases is scheduled to go into effect Jan. 1. But it probably will take several weeks or so to reprogram all of the 4,100 electronic boxes, and drivers will be able to park at the old rates until they are.

[...] According to published reports, Chicago will continue to have the highest downtown parking rates in the country, topping New York's $3.75 an hour and Los Angeles' $4.
And Daley has already spent all that money this budget year, so Chicago Parking Meters LLC will see record breaking profits again next year while the new mayor has to figure out a way to fill what is sure to be a $500 million hole in the next operating budget.

Every time you pay a meter, thank Dick - Shortshanks that is.

Instead of hitting the taxpayers, why not institute a City income tax? ANYONE that gets a check in Chicago, whether they live here or not, should pay about .25%, with a ceiling on how much they can pay. This should include government issued checks, ssi, ssd, etc... The $ should be specifically marked for public safety and utilities. There are plenty of people who work in the city, get free services, but pay nothing for it, this way they would at least contribute something.

F U buddy! You have no clue.

If I am going to have to pay a city tax for all the waste in government, I want to be able to VOTE for your city officials. (AND VOTE THEM OUT. Chicago would become Republican pretty quick.)

I pay for the city everytime I buy a lunch, pay for sky-high parking, or buy anything else downtown with that great 10.25% sales tax you have.

You want taxation without representation. Just pass it on the suburbanites, they have money.

I already support your economy. $36 to park downtown? High-priced restaurants that are less than mediocre. Taxis that charge a lot.

Sorry - you already get a good chunk of money from me that would be better spent in the suburbs.

Sorry, get all the deadwood that lives in the city to get off their entitlements and get to work to pay taxes.

Listen up, Democrat: NO NEW TAXES!

We already pay too much for what we get in return. The last thing we need is to contribute MORE to this toilet.

I'll tell you what needs to happen. It's what happens when every honest taxpayer gets taxed even more: they live on less. They have to, because it's either that or bankruptcy. Robbing everyone (including the police) to help pay for public utilities, and the police, makes no sense.

How about this. Legalize concealed carry for law-abiding non-felons. Charge $100 for a 5-year license, statewide. Seek reciprocity with other states. This will help citizens level the playing field while the police have reduced manpower. Plus it's in the Constitution.

Get rid of at least 50% of street lights. They aren't needed. We can probably get rid of more. What does the city pay ComEd per month for power that it wastes on light pollution? If citizens want light, they can install a lamppost on their property (like the old days!). It'll be on them to assess their needs and plan accordingly, because citizens must be efficient to save their own money - the government has no such incentive because they waste our money. Put all single-family homes on meters so they pay for what they are getting (no exceptions for City workers, water department officials, and other clout babies.).

Enact strict time limits on "entitlement" programs for the poor. Center them around being productive by training them to get jobs (don't give them jobs, or force people to employ them). Those that don't take the initiative can starve, or can try to rob someone with a CCW permit.

It's time we stop perpetuating the culture of waste - in the government, and in its dependents. It's not sustainable, nor is it fair to those of us who work.

There are plenty of people who get ripped off every time they come into the city if they spend any money at all.

$36-$48 for parking lots - the city AND county get tax from it. Restaurants and shops - the city gets sales taxes from it.

You have NO CLUE as to how much the city makes already from people that have to come downtown to work Monday thru Friday.

You want us to pay a city income tax? Give us the right to vote in city officials. Otherwise, it's taxation without representation.

With your attitude, everyone should start bagging lunches everyday and stop going out to restaurants. The same with coming downtown to shop. Just stay in the suburbs. No more spending in Chicago.

Wake up. You are already getting 10.25% sales taxes to pay for all city and county services.

No wonder businesses are moving out of the city AND state. The solution isn't to raise taxes - the solution is to make it a more business-friendly state so you get more businesses to locate here (lower taxes).

You don't have a clue as to how economic development works. That's why Chicago has lost so many HQs and jobs over the last two decades.

Raise taxes again and see how many more move out. We used to go downtown to shop, but now we avoid it like the plague. Parking and sales tax are way too high. Raise the meters - you'll be able to find a lot of parking spaces on the street.

They should raise property taxes in Chicago. Compare what you pay to a house in the suburbs. You are getting off cheap.

OT: totally off topic but noteworthy is the passing of a cultural icon.

On Thursday, Dec 30, 2010, the last film processor in the world still developing Kodak Kodachrome film shut down it's last processing machine for the final time. The machine will be sold for scrap.

The processor is Dwayne's Photo in Parson's Kansas. In past weeks photographers from all over the world have sent their last precious rolls of Kodachrome to be developed.

A railroad worker drove in from Arkansas to pick up 1,580 rolls of film that he paid $15,798 to develop. All of trains and railroad stuff.

The end of an era though most younger folks likely never used Kodachrome. It is all on a computer screen now, or a cell phone.

Kodak stopped making the film in 2009. They finally took my Kodachrome away.

Just something to consider besides the usual knucklehead commander antics or pension woes or savage true crime stories.

Happy New Year all! Be safe!

Los Angeles Fire Department to reduce staffing
December 31, 2010 | 1:55 pm
The Los Angeles Fire Department will impose a new round of reductions in fire staffing starting Sunday, part of its effort to slash expenses in a bad budget year, department officials said this week.

Fire Chief Millage Peaks said the department will decrease by seven the number of fire companies that are on duty across the city. That means 22 of the department’s 153 companies will be closed each day on a rotating basis.

Isn't it interesting that WEISel now holds all press conferences and interviews essentially ALONE?
What has happened to his two Asst. Supts.? His Deputy Supts.? His two or three Fed buddies he brought here to assist in running the CPD? The Chief of Detectives?
Will NONE OF THESE HIGH RANKING EXEMPTS within the CPD step forward, and publicly support their Supt.? Will they hold a press conference on their own, stating for the record that Weis's stats are REAL and TRUE, and that Weis's efforts this year have resulted in a REAL REDUCTION IN CRIME, as Weis is stating to anyone stupid enough to point a microphone near his mouth? Why haven't the executive command done this? I know I'm not the only one to have noticed that Weis has been essentially sailing out on an ice floe by himself for some time now...and if we have noticed it, why haven't the media? Could it be that many of these exempts/ COWARDS are steadying themselves to politic for the top job themselves in the near future, and are trying to distance themselves from the STINK and STENCH of 'Super Coward,' Mr. J-Fled?

Collectively, we've been sounding the alarm for YEARS on Daley Inc's bullshit to NO FUCKING AVAIL!

The blissfully grazing sheeple bought into the widely distributed message of the Daley Inc. media control & propaganda apparatus that our trying to raise awareness was nothing more than "kvetching, carping and belly-aching by the greedy cops."

Now?

Now that it's too damn late to put the brakes on Daley's bullshit?

O_o

Now the good citizens who dismissed the alarms are walking around with a look on their faces that says "Gee... I think I just shit on myself" because it's finally dawning on them that Crime King Shorty has robbed this city blind.

Uh uuh, naughty children!
Can't blame The Police for THIS mess! (pun intended)

We spied a wee missive a couple years ago which related that from the time he was elected until then, between $12 to $15 BILLION DOLLARS of TAX PAYER TREASURY has gone...
*poof*

Yeah... Blame The Police for that too.

People should be rioting in the streets over the shit Daley has pulled.

The machines are operated by little solar panels. A litle bit of spray paint could easily stop the machine from getting power. Just saying not advocating. If these are privately owned, CPD should not be spending too much time as a personal security force for this private company. Let them pay for their own security.

suggestion for new mayor
if your vehicle has a chicago vehicle license parking rates are $2.00 an hour , no city sticker
than you pay $5.00 an hour
parking at Chicago beaches should be free for city residents with a city vehicle license , again no city vehicle license $5.00 an hour or vehicle is towed
