Injured Firefighters Improving

  • [...], five of the 17 firefighters who were injured in Wednesday’s blaze and building collapse remained hospitalized.

[...] Larry Langford, the Fire Department spokesman, said it was too early to say whether the five firefighters who remained hospitalized would be back at home for Christmas.

“The most serious was stable yesterday and is still stable,” Langford said. “The rest are even better.”

While the injured firefighters were recovering from the physical trauma, the entire department was reeling from the experience, the worst loss of life in more than a decade.

Best wishes to the injured and hopefully, they'll be up and around in short order.

In the meantime, we'll post visitation and funeral information for the fallen when it becomes available. RIP Gentlemen.

good that's how it should be bosses should give the time off to whoever want it on the watch. Just back each other up call to call and take your time.

Outing your WC for giving ANY time due with those numbers was not very smart my man. You go on the naughty list.

Wake up! There's low manpower because your WC obviously tried to accommodate as many people who requested the day off. I'm sure if you were one of the Officers the WC granted the day off, you'd think he's a prince. Deny the requests and fully staff the watch and this same WC would be called an ass. Find something else to bitch about!

All is fine my ass. That's just the what the city want the public to believe. The one is a friend of mine and as of last nite he is still in a drug induced come & is inabated. As far as I am concerned if you are in a coma something can still go wrong. This city just doesn't. Want to let the public to know how dangerous the job of the CFD & CPD really is.

My prayers are with all the CPD & CFD this holiday season & thru-out the year.

Good to hear that the CFD guys are on the mend, an God Bless the Families of the fallen.

My guess is on the structure being weakened by the metal scavengers that have been getting more and more out of hand.

a super tough year for cpd and cfd--- hopefully 2011 will not be a repeat--- as the years pass by your heart becomes heavier in your chest as these tragedies occur--- you soldier on knowing that you took an oath and have a job to do--- people call the police and fire department for help and we always respond....

OT:

New Sgt test will be announced before JFled leaves. Questions as to how the old test was graded may invalidate any more promotions off that list.

Either way, expect no Sgt promotions until 2012.

Glad to hear they're recovering. I hope they get home, to spend the holidays with their families. A hospital bed is no place to celebrate Christmas or New Year's.

Dude quit whinning this was a post about our brothers from the CFD who are still hospitalized. You complain about the bosses if they dont give time due an now you complain when they do the right thing for the holidays. You cant have it both ways just go to work handle 1 job at a time and back everyone up. Its not a tough job just do it an quit complaining. In my 25 years on the job I had good bosses that did this the jags didnt let anyone off believe me you would rather have bosses that will give you the time.

Sorry about the rant God Bless you all and a speedy recovery to the CFD. Merry Christmas to all.

025 1st watch is really fucking short. 128 officers assigned to 2nd watch, about 120 assigned to 3rd watch and only 54 officers assigned to 1st watch. Note- we have 64 officers assigned to 1st watch but when you subtract the people going to MSF, and tact team, it comes down to 54. However, even though we get fucked like this, we still have go getters that will get arrests! We are our own worst enemy and then wonder why we are so short.

Someone either works 99 or someone cant have Christmas off? Just be careful-dont be a hero. It would be a lot easier for the W/C to deny time-my guess is the Commander had not idea and now he does. You just outed the Captain/Lieutenant.

As a person who lives in the burbs but works in the city full time (IBEW Lu# 134), I would like to say thank you to all members of the CFD and the CPD. I have worked with guys who are members of both departments. Class acts all of them.  Godspeed to those who have fallen. God watch over those who remain.

Merry Christmas

Quit bitching about people getting off to spend time with their families. This happens in every district on every watch across the city this time of year. Be grateful for your family and back each other up, even if they say "I'll let you know squad."

Just saw on the breaking news that Jesse Jackson, the preacher and father to how many? Was at the Firemens house saying prayers. He does not no what it is to be part of one family, since he has two. He must really be hurting for air time on TV. Where was he for the Policemen that have been killed? He would be there if an Honor student was hit by a bullet from the Men and Women in Blue. The man is amazing. He must have had to burn comp. time to get the day off from work.

The 22nd District had three cars assigned to the families getting free meals and toys so they would not get out of hand. While there was no sight of a cop on Western to protect the hard working people spending their own money at the stores located from 99th to 115th.

OT: Was at the scene of the fire. CPD did an excellent job with the escorts and all. The W/C and Sgt. from 003 were class acts with coordinating everything. Can you believe the W/C who was a visitor for the day from 007 got SPARED for not calling the higher ups and getting them out of bed to tell them to hurry to the scene and get on tv. WTF, notifications were made by the paper car from the scene as well as from 003 desk, but they fuck with RC for not making personal phone calls. With as fluid of a scene as it was, there was no time to chit chat with gold stars. Unreal!!!!
