Bears Move On

  • The Bears won before a sellout crowd who braved sub-freezing temperatures and snow flurries to watch one of the team’s better displays this season -- at least for three quarters.

They came prepared for the elements, cheering beneath blankets, behind scarves and inside hoodies. They stashed hand warmers and foot warmers inside their gloves and boots. They placed their feet on strips of cardboard to keep off the chill from the icy cement.

Kind of a nail-biter at the end as they barely covered the spread. Our wings and chili went over well and everyone left happy. We're keeping next week's schedule open if anyone has an invite or a skybox available.

Well, it was good while it lasted. Bears don't have a chance against Rodgers and the Packers -- they have way too many weapons on both sides of the ball. Of course I'd love to see the Bears win, but it's over before the game has started.
"Looking forward" to the NFL Draft, if there is an NFL next season.

I said before game 16 that the Bears should treat the season finale against Packers as if it were a playoff game. I felt it was that important to keep the Pack put of the playoff. It's not that I think we can't beat the Pack it's just that I think the path would've been easier had the Giants or Bucaneers gotten in instead of the Pack.
Go Bears.

Heard somewhere this weekend from the "experts" that the offensive playbook is CONTINUALLY under construction so that no one will know what you'll throw at them next. Look back on the season and you'll see games where a different player was featured each game, depending on who's hot. Earl Bennet took over a game, and big days also came from Knox, Rasheid Davis, Hester, and Olsen.

I think Dan Marino said, that the Bears didn't want to show too much from their playbook during game 16 against the Packers so that any of the teams they may end up facing in the playoffs would not see the whole arsenal. It was NOT A MUST WIN for the Bears and the object is to still have some tricks up your sleeve and some "new looks" leading up to the Super Bowl.

Though the ESPN and east coast media people favored the Bears to win yesterday, they will be predicting a Packers win next week. This plays right into the Bears hands, as they love it when they get no respect.

I'm liking our guys in a close one.

I predict that there will be traffic congestion around Soldier Field next Sunday, say around the mid to late afternoon. Hold on to your wallets as I would expect an increase in pickpockets and purse snatchings and an uptick in DUI offenses.

I also predict that a number of passes will be stolen from Jay Cutler and a bunch of thugs wearing Green and Gold gang colors will be fleeing out of town with The George Halas NFC Championship trophy and heading up North toward Cheddar Head Bay.

If unable to apprehend these dastardly offenders, we suggest setting up surveillance around the Dallas area during the first week of February where our intelligence has picked up another possible plot for these Cheddar people to grab more post season hardware.

That is all.

DATELINE FEBRUARY 6, 2011:

Super Bowl XLV

The Chicago Bears vs The New York Jets

DALLAS - In a veritable slugfest, The Chicago Bears became the Super Bowl Champs for the second time in history with a hard fought victory over the Rex Ryan led NY Jets. The outcome was in question throughout the contest but was won in a last minute drive on a field goal by Chicago's incredibly frickin accurate kicker, Robby Gould.

The game could have been secured much earlier, were it not for the three interceptions of Bears QB Jay Cutler, and an additional four Jets quarterback sacks.

You may recall a similar story from the NFC Championship game where the Bears also just managed to beat the Packers by a field goal, thus ending Green Bays' Cinderella season.

The basic attitude among the Bears' SCC fans on their way out of the game was that the Bears STILL suck and didn't deserve to be Champs.

Go figure!

The Packers only managed to put up 10 points and beat the Bears by 3 in a MUST WIN home game! It was also fairly obvious in that game that the Bears were running a vanilla offense and not intending to show them anything. I don't know a lot, but I know that Lovie knows how to beat the Pack. I like our chances. A lot.

Extremely off topic but needs to be said...........

SCC it appears that a midnight officer who works in 025 who has decided to run for an aldermanic position in the 24th ward. this is all well and good but he has decided to set the foundation of his election by putting fear into the black community he wants to serve by making false allegations.

He stood up in a church, claiming he has been "standing up to racist officers who dont do black folks any justice when it comes to the law" while working the streets.

I take it as a personal insult for him to suggest that the police officers he works with are racist and that he fights the racism he sees on a regular basis.

his comments were out of line and need to be addressed.

Its a shame that a man of color has to play the race card on people of color, but voters are not stupid. they will see thru his smokescreen and realize that Mr Smokescreen is just playing the race card to further his own agenda.

He also claims to be a ordained minister. Well if this is true shame on you mr smokescreen for trying to instill fear into the black community when we as police officers have tried so hard to gain the confidence of all the citizens in our fine city.

Shame on you Roger, your actions are disgusting. You sell the black community short, you play them for stupid which they are not. I hope they see you for what you really are, a race baiter trying to snag a 6 figure a year job on top of your own police salary.

Dont fall for his lies and his deceit Mr Smokescreen (washington) is selling the black community short and playing them for fools.

They arent dumb.

As far as mr smokescreen goes he owes every member of the chicago police department an apology. He has insulted every hard working man and woman who puts the uniform on and goes out to protect the citizens of the city.

Shame on you Mr Washington
Shame on you as a minister,
Shame on you as a police officer,
but most of all shame on you as a human being trying to instill fear into people to further your own agenda. You truly should be ashamed of your actions.

I am proud to be a member of the finest police department in the world and have the privilege to work along side of some of the most dedicated, hard working, honest men and women in the world.

Shame on you Roger, may God forgive you for what you are trying to do. you should be ashamed of yourself

Overrated? Who cares?

They're still playing while all of your UNDERrated teams' (aka losing teams) seasons are OVER.

I'll take an Overrated Champion over an Underrated loser any day.

This team WINS when they HAVE TO. It may not be pretty and people will still be down on Lovie Smith, but its all about finishing with a higher score than your opponent when the whistle blows. One point wins or 30 point losses are inconsequential!

Today, the beatdowns the Bears took against the Giants and Patriots mean NOTHING, and the only bravado those teams got out of their BIG victory's would be readily traded to STILL BE PLAYING for a chance at the Super Bowl.

Complainers are losers. Enjoy the wins!

ONE bad play... had it worked, then what?

Besides, now the Pack will have to prepare for that play just in case the Bears try it again. It was mentioned in the post game on Comcast Sports Net that in practice, that play worked GREAT (snicker-snicker). A bad handle by Forte is all. Any player that touches the ball all day long can be effected by one little slip of the hand, the foot or the ball. Obviously, the fewer the mistakes the better.

Let it play out, then become a whiner if they lose instead of picking on a bad play from a win. Enjoy the history of only the second playoff game between these two storied franchises EVER in the NFL.

While I don't work in that area, something you may not be aware of is that the police can order a park closed at any time for a law enforcement purpose. I have heard through friends that some of the local gang banger wanna be's are trying to set up shop there. Perhaps a more careful examination of your daughter's friends are in order here. They may be doing you a favor by shagging them out of there before they have to start locking people up.
I don't mean my comments sarcastically. Take it as friendly advice. One thing I do a lot is deal with city workers who are amazed when they find out the criminal backgrounds and gang links of their kids friends, usually when they are faced with your situation. Go to the 008th District and ask them in a sincere manner what's up there. A little honey will get you more than vinegar.

". . . But my vote is going toward shields and his team. . . "

And why would you vote for an entire team?
Vote for individuals that will be good for the FOP not an entire team.

Both the Citywide and Shields teams have some good and some bad.

If you for across the board for an entire team you get that good with the bad.

Why not vote for all good no matter what team they are on?

(OT) Say it ain't so looks like a police boss at midway and a police sergeant are in hot water! Why? Not to reveal anything but how can a "protected" person be 2 places at once? 2 payrolls overlap, and they are allowing a friend to be taken care of! What time is it?

No doubt it's that skinny F/2 related to the former exempt now at goldstar families.

T, but does anyone have any info on Sgt. Mannion? How does this guy keep moving from units(MSF, TRU and the academy) and then get a spot as a tact Sgt? He is that good or well connected?

Mannion is good people.

1/17/2011 04:25:00 PM

He is a good guy with little experience as a SGT. He went to the Academy with only 6 months as a Sgt.
Went to MSF with only one year as a Sgt. and now with little more than 18 months is a tact Sgt.?

One simple quastion for State Rep. Monique Davis. Since you have not paid rent for the space you occupy since 2002 where is that money? How come the papers do not ask that question.

They approriate money for office rent in their budgets. If she is not paying the rent, where is the money going?

The state should not be on the hook for the money she should since she has stole the money for years.

These people need to burn in hell

From the Shields website:

: What will happen at the Pension Board? Who will be the new trustee acting on our behalf?
A: Mike Shields will keep his seat until the next election. He currently receives no salary from the Pension Board, allowing him to hold both positions. Mike will also attempt to change the legislation, allowing a second Patrolman to serve on the Pension Board.

How can Mike Shields think he can serve both as Pension Board Trustee and FOP President? They are both fulltime positions that need fulltime attention.

Someone is really full of himself if he thinks he can properly give attentin to both positions at the same time.

You have a good point. I was the original poster. I just figured i'd vote a whole team in so there wouldn't be "in fighting" within the FOP. But you've got me thinking, voting for the best candidate at each spot is really the way to go.
Thanks.

Much easier to live a semblance of a normal life on second or third watch.
On mids, playing catch-up on your sleep is a lot harder. (Used to do that on three-day weekends, but that's not an option anymore.)

Sgt Mannion is one of the good ones. Yes he was in the academy, but he actually did work there. He was detailed to TRU for the summer, not by choice but because he voluntered. Another, less senior sgt was supposed to go, but Mannion stepped in and took the spot because the Jr sgt had family issues and working 3rd watch would of really put him in a bad spot. Mannion does have a frienship with Kennedy and went to 001 at his request.

I live in GarfieldRidge Area and a Chicago Fireman. My daughters like to hang around and inside Wenthworth park at nights. For some reason the police have been chasing the kids out of the Park as early as 700pm.For what reason I may ask? Where should our kids go? I called the Administration Building of the Chicago Park District and they related to me that the Park stays open till 11 pm.Not only that the point I would like to stress is the manner in which they treat the kids.Like they are Gangbangers or thugs.Where can I register a complaint? This must end. Please join me if you family is experiencing the same injustice.Call the Aldereman and the 008Dist Commander.

1/17/2011 07:56:00 PM

You want to know why.........its because the kids hanging out at wentworth and all of the other parks on 811 & 812's beat can't act like kids, they have to act like outta control unsupervised animals about 90% of the time. There are some that do act normal and are respectful.......some... and we have no problem with them at all. Ask your children about the numerous fights that their friends are getting into.......ask them about all the drinking and garbage left behind day after day.......ask them about their friends hanging around with the midway boys or two-six or kings or ambrose......or ask them about the rented bus inside the parking lot of wentworth that got all of the windows broken out of it when the driver realized that no one was of age to have even rented it out and when he denied the kids the bus they acted like west/southside savages and broke out all of the windows. Alot of parents out there are in denial of their children and they better start waking up before one of them gets seriously hurt. Its a shame that everyone cannot enjoy hanging out at a park like we used too but your children know the reason why the police are getting pretty strict about them hanging around. Sorry but its true

Number one, they don't chase all kids out of the park, mostly the gangbangers and wanna be gangbangers.

Have you seen the gang bangers hanging around Wentworth Park in the Summer? I for one appreciate the police presence and hope that they can nip it in the bud before it gets out of hand. On another note, make sure you know who your daughter is hanging with at the park, alot of underage drinking etc... going on.

A benefit for a team of PO's running for FOP spots?

What the hell do they need to hold a benefit for?

Don't they make enough money to handle the cost of their own brochures?

Walk away from this group right now people.

A benefit?
They can go scratch my ass for any of my money.

This is unheard of. No one has ever thrown a benefit for themselves while running for FOP office.

Listen here rookie. Evidently, you haven't been around since the last election. EVERY ticket running has ALWAYS had a fundraiser to raise money to defer the costs of printing, mailings and stuff. Even your Citywide dinosaurs. Don't try to make Shields & Co out to be anything they aren't. If you have legit criticisms, make them. Otherwise, let the voters decide.

For example the Shields team has Rick King as a trustee, the canine handler who lost his dog multiple times. I'm not too excited about his level of responsibility. Google it.

1/17/2011 03:27:00 PM

I've known Rick for over 50 years and he is a good man. He was stuck with an untrainable dog.

Listen junior, like any election across the country they pick their TEAM so they may all work in harmony and get the job done. It is obvious the Citywide team didn't do their jobs in their tenure. Why do we want some of them that have done nothing in there.
A FRESH start is what we need, with fresh faces. And a team that WORKS together for ONE common goal for police officers.

And to some of the posters who are asking about why they are having a benefit. That is a long standing tradition. You obviously havent been around that long son.

And to the posters who are calling Michael K. Shields arrogant, are possibly jealous he can string not only a few sentences together with proper sytax involved. But can speak eloquently and possibly over your pea brain. Instead of trying to tear a person down for being smart, educated and the police you should be giving him KUDO'S for presenting himself well at all functions and visits to the roll calls. We need brain power in their that will help us and stand for our rights. Mike I am sure picked his team wisely for each spot knowing what they can bring to the table to make the FOP what it once was, "for the police by the police".

VOTE TEAM SHIELDS ALL THE WAY DOWN THE TICKET.

Have you been under a rock lately? Have you seen all the tagging and graffiti around the park and now on homes and buildings in the area? You should be happy that there are police patrolling our area. These guys never get the credit they deserve. The guys on midnights grabbed one of the shit head latin kings who has been spray painting his bullshit on our property. These guys work real hard and if they are kicking your daughter out of the park, I guarantee you there is a good reason for it! Do you think with all the bullshit these officers have to deal with in the 008th district, that they just want to harrass your daughter? Get a clue man! I been working in 007 for 12 years and always wonder how the guys in 008 do it. These guys are in a back log there entire tour and still manage to get work done and protect the city employees that reside in clearing and garfield ridge. Just like the other posters said; you should go into 008 and ask what is going on in your area before you contact anybody about a complaint. To the 008th district police that are patrolling our parks and beats, I salute you!
