So Who's Running?

We're looking for police or pro-police candidates running for the City Council to support in the upcoming election. The majority of names we've seen appear to be north side candidates but we're sure there have to be a few south side races we haven't heard about. It appears that there are multiple police candidates running in at least one ward.

We just looking for names at the moment and any associated websites so interested voters can gather information.

We gotta vote Gary Chico over Rham. Chico is the lesser of the two evils. Rham openly states he will shorten our pension. Rham also likes to rule with an iron fist and will be much worse than Daley. Imagine dealing with Rham during our contract negotiations. NIGHTMARE! Rham is nothing more than a big shot Washington politician that will collect several pensions.

OT - FYI - RE: Aldermanic elections

Thursday, the Chicago Board of Elections overruled the challenge to Michael Carroll's nominating petitions, so he'll be on the ballot in the 46th Ward. Mike Carroll is a Chicago Police Officer who, I'm sure, could use our support.

I know I've seen comments here in the past that he is too liberal by our standards, but trust me, that is the ONLY candidate that these lakefront liberals will vote for anyway. At least Mike will have the connection to the CPD that has not been in Shillerville ever before (Helen is famous for saying "Crime is not my agenda"). Aside from that, his resume' is impressive, to say the least, and the kind of people we should be hoping get elected throughout the City Council (minus the liberal part, I guess).

Sherlock wants to bring more business to Bev/ Mt Greenwood, wants more neighborhood kids in the Agg school, and is pro police.

See www.BitaBfor43.com

There will be a fundraiser for Bita on Thursday evening at the Joynt, 625 N. Dearborn St. from 5:30 'til 8:30 PM.

Schulter (47th ward) just dropped out of the race and now recommends, guess who, his (and Daley's) hand picked successor and a precinct captain in his ward who also works for Dart and Claypool before that. (Tom O'Donnell)

These bums think that this public office position is THEIRS to give away. Anything to keep it away from the voters. It is OUR office to vote for!

I am voting for the Indian guy, Ameya Pawar, fuck the democrat bastards. At least he knocked on my door and said how much he dislikes the regular democratic bullshit. That's good enough for me, as long as he isn't connected in any way to the scourge of machine democrats.

I love what you are doing regarding Chicago's races. I think it would better fit us if you put up a candidate list for Mayor that clearly defines the things they have said. I am referencing specific tactics and plans. It is easy to say we need to vote for Chico, but we really need to know why! I know why, but the every day copper does not. Lets talk about how Rahm's tactics will directly effect our ability to survive and the fact the Carol Braun has no true platform, just a name. I have no problem doing the research and sending it to you if you guys don't have the time to do the research.

Just keep in mind when you blatently attack a candidate, some may think it is for other reasons than the truth of the matter which is, they are a horrible candidate for the city period!

Off Topic: Last night Channel 11 hosted a debate/interview for the mayoral candidates.

When asked about policing, Del Valle also weighed in on the question: “I think the Police Department should be reflective of the community it serves, which means that the force should look like the neighborhoods – people who have grown up in the community who have decided to go into law enforcement and can work in that community, and have ties to the community.”

Racist much? I mean,I'm from the Northwest Side of the city in a predominently white neighborhood, should I expect police officers in my neighborhood to be white only?

What a freakin idiot.

He runs the dojo with his son and daughter. A few years back he lost his wife and youngest daughter in an earthquake while they were home visiting family. I think change is good and as we all know the 46th Ward, along with many wards in the city, need to support a candidate that will actually look out for them. I think Mike Carroll would be a logical choice. Although he is young he is tenacious in his goal to represent the people. In these changing times and changing city government it is the perfect opportunity to commit to change and help Mike Carroll facilitate this. With his background both educationally and with the Police Department he certainly is aware of the needs of Chicago's citizens, specifically in the 46th Ward. I certainly support him.

For once can we band together in this election. If we tear these individuals apart we will get more of the same. It's this "more of the same" that we complain about each and every day. Now is the opportunity to break the democratic stranglehold on the City. We need a strong council and a week mayor.

Personally I'm voting for Richard Gonzalez in the 41st Ward. He's one of only three that accepted an invitation to speak at an Oriole Park forum.

Gonzalez had good ideas for attacking the top heavy part of government prior to balancing the misdeeds of a lifetime on the backs of the worker ants of the city. Supporting the current pension system and against city service reallocation.

Of the other two challengers, Gavin is running on being Doherty's assistant and O'Connor is relying on her business and her Irish name for support.

Any current City employee who votes for Rahm will cast a vote for greatly reduced pensions backed by a big IOU. If in fact he is the front runner, he must be forced into a run-off!

Don't just sit home on election day, VOTE!

I know of 4 wards where members of the CFD are running. Nick Sposato is running in the 36th ward(Banks old ward). Lapinski in the 41st. Reed is running against Beale in the 9th And Wiley-Earls in the 28th(Smith's old seat).
I personally know 3 of them. Sposato is a GREAT guy and a real strong union man. He will do a great job. Wiley-Earls is one hell of a woman. She is very dedicated to what she strives for. She will be 100 x's better then Smith plus is very pro union. Reed will be better then Beale. But I think even Farrahkan would be better then that punk. Not sure of Lapinski but I do know people from up north that say he is a good guy.

This is why the unions representing the CFD,CPD,CPS along with other city unions should of had meetings 6 months ago planning on having members run and to set up strategies to help support & campaign for them too.
But then again these unions are to REACTIVE and not PROACTIVE.

Sorry, but you guys are ignorant of the issues and the candidates. I'm sorry that you haven't had a chance to get promoted, but being a supervisor (non-merit, BTW) is a ridiculous reason to not vote for the best candidate.

Lt. G's a smart, honest, good guy who is what the city council needs. He's about public safety and supporting business AND labor in the ward.

come on, use your heads.

Hey that's great! If you live in the 45th Ward, you can vote for Michael Fitzpatrick Ward. He wants an unreduced retirement age of 67 for everyone.

I can just see it now, 66 year old cops, firefighters, laborers, trades-workers out busting their behinds in below zero weather and getting carted off in a gurney. Most of the guys I know are pretty beat up by the time they're 55.

MAURITA E. GAVIN (ask about her $300.00 birthday present from the 41st ward Republican organization? She's the assistant to the alderman and receiving that kind of present as a city worker!)

GEORGE BANNA (Another MIA)

BARBARA ATECA (Nurse/Union yes/but over her head)

JIM MULLEN (He bleeds blue. Would back police 100% but he has handlers. Be careful on this one.)

We gotta go with Chico guys. Rahm just proves over and over he's an outsider DC guy and having Clinton pushing for him should scare us all. The scary part is Rahm could care less about the 470 plus stars on the wall at 35th he wants to cut our pension, medical etc. etc. But we can't talk about the aldermen's pensions and Rahm's possible 3 pensions.

No one will mention how we put in every two weeks to the pension and that we get no social secutity. He will be very unfair and hard to do business with. Rahm is an outsider that will destroy chicago. Hope the Clinton move backfires.

Not sure what he is like now, but back then he was a good guy. Very down to earth and never took himself too seriously. I don't know what his qualifications are for running for alderman, but I can't imagine he would be a bad pick considering what we have now.

If I lived in his ward, I wouldn't hesitate voting for him based on my experiences with him in the past.

I do not want Rahm as Mayor, but I HATE the little racist, weasel "Dream Act" pusher Luis Gutierrez. Even if he endorsed Chico over del Valle, ALL THREE OF THESE GUYS are birds of a feather when it comes to ILLEGAL immigration, ie they are ALL FOR supporting the illegals and keeping Chicago a sanctuary city!

One of the BIG reasons this city, state and country are on the verge of bankruptcy is due to the billions of $$$ given away to illegals every day in the form of free housing, medical, education, and other assorted subsidies. When does it stop? Which candidate can we vote for that will stop giving our country away to people who have not become citizens, have no intention of becoming citizens or are only here to benefit from all the ill-advised left wing benevolence and "compassion" that the U.S. is famous for?

I know we are all worried about the fate of our pensions and we should be. But I submit to you that there is a much bigger picture out there that pertains to our retirement and our futures in general and it's a picture we all need to be aware of and look at.

"Also today, Gery Chico’s campaign started making automated calls that feature U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, who has endorsed Chico for mayor."

Very interesting and possible.I've thought about this myself as Goral is actively working the ward. I saw a pretty large turnout at her office on Archer a few weeks ago. There is a large Polish block in the 23rd Ward that won't go Zalewskis way with Goral running. It's a shame if Maida is doing this. The obvious inference is a connection to Zalewski. Anyone know if Z is Maidas phone call?

Richard Gonzalez is the best qualified candidate for the 41st Ward. All city workers pensions are at stake. Enough is enough. I don't want a meek, fragile minded Alderman in the city council representing the 41st Ward. I don't care if you're not Irish just get the job done!

Who is 45th Ward Aldermanic candidate, Lt. John Garrido endorsing for Mayor?

I see alot of Chico signs alongside Garrido signs. I prefer DeValle myself.

1/18/2011 12:20:00 AM
----------------------------------

DeValle may be a nice guy, but he's almost assuring a runoff between Mosely Braun and Emanuel. Chico is ahead of him in the polls and is attracting more support. I wish he'd drop out to give Chico a fighting chance to make the runoff.

Chico is the only candidate that would have a shot to prevent Emanuel from winning the runoff.

Chicago Tribune Questionnaire:
38th Ward Alderman

Chicago’s four employee pension funds have a total unfunded liability of $14.57 billion. All four funds could run out of money by 2030. What steps do you recommend to make those funds solvent? Would you support higher contributions from employees? Higher retirement ages? Reduced benefits for future or current employees?

Caravette Response:

I support an increase in employee contributions and reduced benefits for current and future employees. Pensions that are currently being paid should be reevaluated to conform to this policy. Multiple pensions should be prohibited. I am not in favor of increasing the retirement age every time the pension system gets into trouble. If that was the answer within a few years we might not be able to retire until we hit 90 years old.

Cullerton Response:

Studies indicate that state requirements for employer contributions to pension funds are far less than the federal requirements for comparable private pensions (perhaps as low as 50% less) and have been for quite some time. The employer contributions should be increased in accordance with current actuarial standards to bring the plans to within 90% to 100% of being fully funded, although doing so may require step increases spread over a set period of time. In addition to increasing employer contributions, an increase in employee contributions for new employees should also be considered. Other reforms could include (for new employees) 1) increasing the unreduced retirement age 2) reducing the benefit accrual rate to 2%, when a plan is below 80% funded, 3) reducing COLA increases to 1.5% (for new and existing employees and existing pensioners) when a plan is below 80% funded, 4) placing a cap on the final average salary and calculating the average based on an employee’s final 5 to 6 years of service (instead of the final 3 years), 4) limit any employee’s participation to one pension (i.e., end “double dipping”), 5) impose a “Windfall Pension” fee against any second and third government service pensions held by any one participant, with the proceeds returned to their respective plans (for new and existing pensioners).

BROCK MERCK (The Who is Brock Merck guy again. This guy doesn't give up. Possibly the best choice, but he might be too conservative for a lot of coppers)

The signs suggest that Merck is a fan of "Atlas Shrugged," with its immortal line of "who is John Galt." Ayn Rand's philosophy Objectivism, is highly capitalistic very critical of any types of unions and associations.

Rand was passionately anti-communist as a native of St. Petersburg, Russia and was passionate about celebrating the accomplishments of the individual.

There are at least two aldermen who have been cops currently serving in the council. Burke and Cochran.

If you vote for someone just because they're a cop you're making a mistake.

Some of the candidates who are cops would be good. Some are 'less good'.

Look at all the candidates in your ward and then make a decision.

SCC family,
Michael Davis is running for Alderman of the 18th ward. This young man is on his way to be a moving force in his community and city. Both of his parents and other family members are/were Chicago Police Officers (father just retired about a month ago Sgt. from the 006th district and mother a P.O. in 005. So he has an intimate look at what we face in this department. For those who are not familiar with the 18th ward it spans from about 87th and Honore/Damen to the south, to the north 67th and Kedzie (roughly Marquette park area), to the west 79th and Cicero, and to the east 79th and Ashland. The current Alderman is Lona Lane and it serves part of the west side of the 6th district and part of the east side of the 8th district. Here is his brief bio as well as his website, for more information on this young man. www.mikedavis4chicago.com. For anyone who wants to drop in at his campaign office to show your support, it is located at 8118 S. Kedzie. Lets support this young man who family has gone day in and day out working the streets of Chicago.

Michael Davis is an award winning diversity educator, motivational speaker, and community activist who has devoted many years to bettering his community and positively impacting his city.

The son of Chicago police officers, Michael Davis has been instilled with civic responsibility and social awareness. After seeing a significant decline in the quality of the 18th ward, Mr. Davis knows that now is the time to make a difference.

A graduate of Western Illinois University, Michael Davis earned a Bachelor of Business followed by a Master of Business Administration. While at Western Illinois University, Mr. Davis served as Chief Diversity Officer and a graduate assistant for the College of Business and Technology. Michael Davis is committed to providing a safer and more dynamic 18th ward for its citizens and generations to come.

"I'm a police officer and live in 008. Chuck Maida is a Zalewski plant and has not campaigned this election. Itsva shame, many people would have voted for this guy had he been legit.

Let's support Anna Goral. I'm taking down my Maida sign,
stat!"

If any of you "officers" know Chuck Maida at all you would know that not only is he NOT associated with Zelewski, but last election when he ran against Zelewski, Zelewski tried to get him fired out of fear Chuck could win! "Z" as you and his friends so call him would like nothing more that for Maida to drop out of the race. Maida is the best shot you have at beating Zelewski!
So next time you write negative remarks about Maida quit looking at the sign on your lawn that says "Z" and maybe will beleive some of what you write.

do not want Rahm as Mayor, but I HATE the little racist, weasel "Dream Act" pusher Luis Gutierrez.

1/18/2011 08:07:00 PM

DITTO on all what you just said!!

The city has gone the tubes VERY QUICKLY by being so benevolant to illegals....the giveaways have strained this city to no end. Their anchor babies have sucked the CPS dry and mom and dad don't even contribute to the tax system! Why doesn't the CPS ask each and every student for their parent's birth certificates and social security cards...you will be surprised on the thousands who shouldn't be here, but we are not only educating their kids, but providing a number of "free" services that come in the form of free breakfast, lunches at school, WIC, LINK and section 8 vouchers because their kids were born here. AND NO, we don't want to give their illegal parents a PASS to citizenship when they broke a number of federal laws to set foot in this country. I don't know the answer, but allowing the parents to become citizens and then suck us dry with more social aid (worker's comp, disability, medicaid, etc) will KILL this nation.

I, too, am scared of the Louis Gut...connection, because this ex-gang-banger should be in prison himself. God Bless America.

Chico will be like having Daley back in power. Chico never made a buck that didn't come through the city treasurers office. How could we trust him to be independent of the Daley shit family. Remember, Daley said it would be better if our pension funds went bust. How many jobs did Daley give Chico? But now he wants us to believe he will be independent of slime-ball daley's influence? please.......

Lets not forget Chico was Daley's CHIEF OF STAFF. He carried the WATER. for years

I, too, 'prefer' DelValle, but since he doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell, I'm voting for Chico.

You have to realize he doesn't have the money to back his candidacy and he doesn't have any numbers in the polls. It would be a waste of my vote to do otherwise.

1/18/2011 11:24:00 PM
Delvalle is a racist, watch the wttw debate from the other night and dumb delvalle racist comments he is a POS!

1/19/2011 07:24:00 AM

Yup. I revised my opinion of DelValle when he said he feels police should 'reflect the complexion' of the neighborhood they're assigned to.

When the police come to my house, it's because I called and I need help. I don't want a white officer because I'm white. I want the best damned police officer available; race, gender and creed are unimportant.

The officer's wife has been in the hospital since before Christmas with some very serious complications from a pregnancy. When he told her he needed some time off over the holidays to be at his wife's bedside - capt A R told him to put in for an unpaid leave of absence. The young officers wife is still hospitalized - please say a prayer for this young woman, the officer and the newborn.......

I was at the candidates forum, last night,It is a real shame when the only candidate to stick up for the city worker, was the one that the 38th ward reg.dem. org.tried to get kicked off the ballot! One of the questions was about police staffing
he said that we should cut the number of Aldermen in half, well that did not go over to well. When the unions are giving my dues money to candidates they should at least stick up for us!Also the city and state, should quit giving my tax dollars to groups like cease fire, why are we funding a bunch of gang bangers anyway.they should take that money and put it in some state of the art training
facility for our cops, the aldermen each get $1.3mil for there own use, that could pay for some real nice ranges,Feb,22-vote!
