Uptick in Line of Duty Deaths

  • A spate of shooting attacks on law enforcement officers has authorities concerned about a war on cops.

In just 24 hours, at least 11 officers were shot. The shootings included Sunday attacks at traffic stops in Indiana and Oregon, a Detroit police station shooting that wounded four officers, and a shootout at a Port Orchard, Wash., Wal-Mart that injured two deputies. On Monday morning, two officers were shot dead and a U.S. Marshal was wounded by a gunman in St. Petersburg, Fla.

On Thursday, two Miami-Dade, Fla., detectives were killed by a murder suspect they were trying to arrest.

The total for January deaths has already matched last year's and there's still a week to go.

Please be careful, be aware, be safe.

SCC, you aren't kidding. The article was decent; the comments were appalling. Apparently, there are large segments of this country who feel that we have brought this surge in carnage against us upon ourselves.
And it doesn't appear as though the haters in the comment section are all left wingers either; you can see from the comments that there is a lot of hate coming down on us from the right as well. Disturbing.

Don’t get the impression that all of us citizens have devolved into rabid cop-haters. Many of us have an enormous amount of respect, pride, and concern for the CPD officers who look out for us day and night. Many of us volunteer in law enforcement with our time, money and resources through the CAPS program. Yeah, I know a lot of you despise the CAPS program but it seems to work pretty well for us in 024 – despite the staff and budget cuts. And there are even some of us who wouldn’t think twice about assisting an officer in trouble without regard to our personal safety.

That said there does seem to be an increased lack of respect for authority these days so please be careful out there.

What has any Democrat, or Republican Politician, ever done about this ? Nothing that I know of.

Just thinking out loud but maybe all this is happening because there is an overall relaxation of policing. There seems to be an aversion to PROFESSIONAL POLICE CONDUCT in favor of a relaxed, friendly, feelgood version that, unfortunately, is getting officers killed.
There is nothing wrong with order and serious behavior. The police should be an entity that the citizenry should respect, depend on and fear. I am sorry to hear that the current officers need to be reminded to have a weapon out at every traffic stop, that used to be SOP. What is happening?
I don't want to blame victims, especially my police family, but we need to become THE MAN again.
Screw that asswipes who will always hate us. They are of little consequence in the grand scheme of things.

Supreme Court: Emanuel stays on ballot while his case is considered

By ABDON M. PALLASCH Political Reporter / apallasch@suntimes.com

Jan 25, 2011 12:26PM

The Illinois Supreme Court has ordered the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners to put Rahm Emanuel’s name back on the mayoral ballot.

The court has not decided whether to hear Emanuel’s appeal of Monday’s Illinois Appellate Court ruling that tossed him out of the race to replace Mayor Daley. But the Supreme Court granted Emanuel’s motion for a stay of the ruling.

“The appellate court decision is stayed,’’ the Supreme Court’s order reads. “The Board of Elections is directed that if any ballots are printed while this Court is considering this case, the ballots should include the name of petitioner Rahm Emanuel as a candidate for Mayor of the City of Chicago.’’

law enforcement officers are the front line troops who enforce the laws made by the legislative branch of politicians, indirectly enforce the policies created by the executive branch of politicians, which are eventually interpreted by the judicial branch of politicians.

the politicians are whom the majority of the public despises.

it's the public, in their ever increasing capacity for being ignorant, lazy, in mind, body and spirit, and selfishly complacent, who have allowed themselves to be ass fucked, by, you guessed it, the politicians.

were we to, as a whole, enforce only those laws whose essential natures are natural to our sense of justice, ie., do not murder, do not attempt to murder, do not steal, do not attempt to steal, do not lie, deceive, bear false witness, etc., and were we, as a whole, to choose to not enforce those laws whose essential functions are not natural to our sense of justice, we would no longer be the instruments of the enforcement of laws made by politicians, for the benefit of politicians, and not, in any authentic way, for the benefit of the public. we would, in due course of time, no longer be seen as front line representatives of the politicians' laws, policies and adjudications.

there would still be those 'citizens' whose chosen behaviors would fall within the purvey of being naturally criminal, but they would be far fewer in number, and their numbers would consistently decrease, as the honest citizens begin to cull the herd.

the politicians pander to the cancerous cells within the body politic, as these cancerous cells are kindred in spirit to the politicians.

freedom, as enumerated within our U.S. Constitution, cannot survive the enforcement of unnatural laws, the imposition of unnatural policies, nor the adjudication supporting those laws and policies which are contrary to the better natures of human beings.

are we human beings, or are we insects?

"we decide which is right
And which is an illusion"

Works very well mentally and physically... Dont be afraid to use these tools... Anything you can hit or pepper spray someone for... You can use a taser for. Officers please stay safe... WGN
Precinct rampage tests 'community policing' strategy; some big departments rethink security
JEFF KAROUB

Associated Press

3:56 PM CST, January 25, 2011

DETROIT (AP) — Some big-city police departments and police unions around the country are taking another look at their security measures in the wake of a gunman's rampage inside an easily accessible Detroit police station.

They are grappling with how to serve the public while protecting officers' lives since Sunday's brazen attack that left four cops wounded and the gunman dead.

At least one criminal justice expert warns that the bloodshed could lead police departments to roll back community policing, which has been widely credited with contributing to the big drop-off in violent crime in many U.S. cities over the past two decades.

Another expert says the attack and others like it underscore the limits of community policing and represent "an epidemic of a lack of respect" for law enforcement.

This article is evidence for the stupidity of people like Trahanas and the other imbeciles making policy for this department. The epidemic of a lack of respect for law enforcement has become most acute in Chicago, Cook County IL because the leaders/politicians would rather placate offenders than bring law and order to the state. We are living in dark times when the good guys(the police) are treated like the bad guys, and the offenders(the savages) are treated like the good guys. Stay alert and stay safe.

I think we all need to take a breath and step back for a minute.

I don't like the negative comments, either, but the fact so many people from diverse backgrounds are making them *is* cause for concern, especially as there is no justification for attacking officers who are doing their jobs.

The reason I said take a breath is that after almost 40 years in law enforcement I have seen a shift in the attitude of many young officers and their supervisors. We've gone from being peace officers to law enforcement officers and there is an "us vs. them" mentality that does not serve us well.

This does NOT mean taking stupid risks or kissing the ass of dirtbags and that is what pisses me off. We have a lot of youngsters who seem to kiss the ass of dirtbags and stick it to otherwise good citizens. Yes, PR is a part of this job and if you don't agree, then get a new one. Yes, dirtbag ass needs more kicking but we do need the support of Mr. and Mrs. John Q. We just seem to have too many hair gels who are anti-people.

That said, no excuse for the attacks on officers. There *is* the lack of fear and I think weanie judges and lawyers are partly to blame.

Talked to an Iowa cop at a Bulls game whose nearest backup on a good day is ten minutes away so almost everything is a one-man stop. He said a shithead on a traffic stop once told him to get fucked and drove away. Next day the judge zapped the asshole for 90 days. Another mope took a swing at him in a bar fight and got a year. Yes, it's a different place but what if there were judges and prosecutors here who had balls?

We need to fix this system and make the asswipes fear us and let the good citizens know we are on their side. And judges and prosecutors who kiss the ass of cop beaters need to feel the heat. Who has the balls to stand up?

Sorry for the rant. I'm pissed.
