[Gurkha] soldiers have long been known the world over for their valor and these khukuri-wielding warriors winning the British many a battle have become folklore.
A retired Indian [Gurkha] soldier recently revisited those glory days when he thwarted 40 robbers, killing three of them and injuring eight others, with his khukuri during a train journey. He is in line to receive three gallantry awards from the Indian government.
- “They started snatching jewelry, cell phones, cash, laptops and other belongings from the passengers,” Shrestha recalled. The soldier had somehow remained a silent spectator amidst the melee, but not for long. He had had enough when the robbers stripped an 18-year-old girl sitting next to him and tried to rape her right in front of her parents. He then took out his khukuri and took on the robbers.

There are some who have made the acquaintance of some of the famed and rightfully feared Gurkhas.
NO ONE has ever gone eyeball to eyeball with these men and claimed victory.
There are some small detachments operating in the sandbox right now.

He always said those 4 Indians were the toughest, most combat smart fighters he ever met in all his years as a soldier.

I looked at a Khukuri, as well as a Barong (Filipino design, similar shape) for every day carry when I lived in chicago. Settled on a folding Barong. Carried it all the time (I have since moved out of that hellhole.)

This story reminds me of what happened in 010 a few days ago. Stolen auto being driven around by the juvenile thieves with possibly the vehcle owner/friends following calling 911. Due to the call delays, CPD was unable to catch up to current locations. Finally a call of persons shot calls coming in... Guess what? The stolen car was all shot up. The Offenders (3) from inside were shot and taken to County (Stroger). So the Offenders became victims. The juvenile driver had been stopped by unk's who told them to get out of the car. They refused and...bang! bang! bang! The Offender/Victim insisted the owner of the car knew the shooter and wanted them prosecuted! Hahahahahahahahaahahahahahahhaahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahaahhahahahahahahaha! Oh, yeah the "victims" from the shooting all were ok.... Whew! All are thinking of becoming honor students with CPS someday.... I overheard them saying they may even go to school now without that blank look in their eyes....j/k. I think we are going to see a lot more of this in our future... People are starting to realize their aren't enough Police out there. Vigilante's are going to start appearing regularly.....

I read in a history of the Battle of Monte Cassino that some Gurkhas crept up on three Germans sleeping in a foxhole. They slit the throats of the two outboard soldiers but left the one in the center alone to wake up surrounded by his two dead buddies. Most definitely people to NOT screw with.
Does the CPD have any "Ghurka set aside minority positions' reserved at the Academy? Maybe we should. They might be the first step to bringing back respectability between the public and the police here in Shitcago.

A friend gave me one of thier blades as a gift once. something not to be taken lightly. heavy and dangerous. great chopping small trees if maintained. We recall reading about some Gurkha action on the Western Front sometime during WW1. In particular there was one who was very badly wounded and knew his time was up. He asked his commanding officer for permission to die... His c/o denied the Gurkhas request. During WW2 it was also well documented that the Japanese took pains to avoid the Gurkhas. Many a Japanese Imperial Army head was taken in the jungles of Indo-China by the Gurkhas in addition to the various tribes of head-hunters.
