Instant Justice

  • A sexual assault suspect was killed Saturday night when he reportedly jumped in front of a CTA train on the South Side.

A southbound CTA Red Line train struck the man about 9:30 p.m. Saturday near the 87th Street station, CTA spokeswoman Wanda Taylor said.

  • Police identified the man as 32-year-old Theus Beal, who fled from the 8900 block of South Eberhart Avenue about 9 p.m. when officers responded to take a report from a teenage girl who accused him of sexual assaulting her earlier that evening at Beal’s home in the 0-100 block of East 121st Place, according to a police report.

After the alleged attack, Beal and the girl went to the Eberhart address, where he grabbed a butcher knife and threatened to harm himself with it after allegedly admitting to the assault, according to the police report. He told the people there that he was going to commit suicide and fled when officers began arriving the report said.

No arrest, no botched prosecution, no years-long delay in processing evidence, Sunday night so minimal traffic disruption. A winning effort all around.

He should get a Crime Reduction ribbon. Posthumously, of course.

Crackheads. They'll be yelling Bible verses -- alternating with obscenities and death threats -- while they crawl around on the cement searching for that little twist of plastic.

"A sexual assault suspect was killed Saturday night when he reportedly jumped in front of a CTA train on the South Side."

Gotta hand it to him. The man had a plan.

"No arrest, no botched prosecution, no years-long delay in processing evidence, Sunday night so minimal traffic disruption. A winning effort all around."

Slick!

Everyone in the city is just a lit-tle bit safer tonight.

But the offender dying after the crime

Ah, yes Theus Beal lets see it was about 7-8 years ago had an aggravated battery to the police incident when he walked in on officers surveillance point. He caused one officer to receive a half dozen or more stitches to his head when he struck the officer with a broom stick. Judge Vincent Gaughn during trial after hearing only the officer's testimony and no one else including the offender, found him guilty of misdemeanor battery rather than the felony agg. batt. to a P.O. God's wrath is sweeter than any justice this county could ever deliver.

No parole and enhanced, felony probation either.

The mopes family will probably sue the Department for trying to make a report of the crime. It's your fault, if you weren't there trying to make a report, he wouldn't have kilt hisself!

Of course, the CTA will be named in the lawsuit also, if that train wasn't there just then, their loved one would still be alive and working on that cure for cancer.

I'm not sure we've heard the end of this. Loevy & Loevy or some other bottom feeding lawyers will file suit claiming the police pursuit of this clown caused him to fall in front of the train. Our flawed justice system rampant with wild eyed liberal federal judges will not dismiss the case and require that it be tried to verdict in front of a group of unemployed, uneducated stoops who can't figure out how to avoid jury duty and hate the police.

Too easy. Real sex offenders don't harm themselves when they could spend that time destroying someone else's life.

Actually this was saturday night, not sunday. I am sure mass transit didn't handle the paper. prolly duped it to the district. They are to busy getting event numbers and riding the train with their radios off. Or maybe to busy locking up Joe regular guy for crossing cars, while the stickup man is still robbing.

Many OT slips died along with Mr. Teal. Extension of tour, court slips, motions, trials...all gone. And for what? For justice? Is that what your looking for on this job? For justice? If your motivation on this job is justice, then one of two things will happen to you over time. First, you will jam yourself up and/or burn yourself out trying to make justice fit in a county that wants none of it, or, second, more commonly you will simply surrender doing anything becoming that crabby, miserable do-nothing twice divorced destined to spend most of your very brief retirement in an alcohol rehab center.

This is a job. You do a job for yourself. You take some pride in doing your job for you, not to prove your worth or make friends with your co-workers or put bad guys "away." You do your job and let court officials do theirs, even when they often do not. Your job is not to administer justice. Quite the opposite, your should care less if it ever happens.

I was driving Southbound on the Ryan when this all went down. The traffic was seriously f*cked up. But, as you say, probably worth it. Life in the big city is full of tradeoffs, as well as jagoffs.

Was Rahm there to shake his hand on the way in, that's what I want to know. Guy seems to live at El stations.

A while back, we did some work with the railroads and found out that the conductors are not only horrified when someone jumps in front of their train, they are also haunted by the event, with symptoms similar to post traumatic stress. I know we all want the bad guy to die, but let's not forget the people they consequently take with them.

Yeah, decent of you to remember -- this is always awful.

Like the fireman said sadly to me once -- "I just went to the job..."

Someone was in a hurry, drove their SUV around the lowered crossing gates. No match for that non-stop METRA train...you could see the rubber marks where that big heavy car was shoved sideways...
