Begin the Charade

  • The Chicago Police Board said today it has begun accepting applications for a permanent successor to former police Superintendent Jody Weis.

Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel has said he hopes to name a new superintendent when he takes office on May 16.

The applications are being accepted on the police board’s web site, ChicagoPoliceBoard.org, until April 11, Demetrius Carney, the board’s president, said in a statement. The police board is responsible for nominating three candidates for superintendent.

The application requires candidates to describe their qualifications, “address important challenges facing the police department” and reveal if they have ever taken the 5th Amendment in a court proceeding.

Among the four essay questions, applicants must explain how they would improve the morale of the department, a sore point for Weis, a former FBI agent seen as an outsider during his three-year term. Applicants are also asked how they would build on the department’s success in fighting violent crime. Last year murders were at their lowest since 1965.

And here's the link to the actual application. As stated above, the deadline is 11 April. Rahm already has his pick, so unless you have received the call, don't bother filling out the application. We did hear that at least three applications have been filled out in SCC's name, one of them by J-Fled himself who scrawled at the bottom, "If these bastards think they can do a better job...."

We don't know about better, but we couldn't do it worse. And we could do it cheaper, too.

"...applicants must explain how they would improve the morale of the department..."

Even the Police Board perceives there is a morale problem at CPD.

Weis seems to be the only one who doubts this.

What is interesting and possibly very telling is that the application states the sup can be over 63 if not acting as a peace officer. This could of been slipped in to help Ramsey get the job. I wonder how this will affect the age discrimination lawsuits the city is facing by those forced out at 63.

They should add a polygraph exam as part of the process? " Have you ever given money to a politician to get promoted"? " Have you ever taken money or facors from a politician to influence decisions made in your roll as a police commander/leader"? Now that would eliminate a lot of our current leaders.

did somebody say something?

the usual political noise followed by a sudden yet lingering stink...

the word "charade" doesn't even begin to do the bullshit at hand any justice as a descriptive.

the circus train of fuckery has left the rails after hitting the assclown tour bus at a crossing.

As the song goes, "Same as it ever was."

So, we were discussing the 5th amendment question down here in sunny Texas, and were a bit confused by it.

An guy transplanted from Illinois pointed out to us that in the Chicago political system, if you answer yes you get bonus points...

A police department without a leader is like a foot without a big toe.

I'm going to volunteer my leadership to this department, because the next Superintendent won't always be there for you...

Who are you idiots that keep posting this crap?

The position of Superintendent is a civilian position and HAS BEEN SINCE 1960. That is when Richard I hired O W Wilson to clean up the CPD after the Summerdale scandal. The mandatory retirement age of 63 is for sworn officers only and DOES NOT APPLY to civilian administrators of the CPD. A sworn peace officer CAN AND HAS held the position since 1976 when O W retired but IT IS OPTIONAL.

YA GOT IT NOW?

As a retired cmdr., I had thought about applying for Supt. of CPD, but now, with all the press about Rahm's "discussions" with Ramsey, I can't see why anyone would even bother. It appears that Rahm & Ramsey are set to play footsie for the foreseeable future.

I'm an old downstate boy. Given the level of hatred between downstate and Shitcago for many, many years, perhaps I should apply. Should I (by some miracle) get the job, I could supply the necessary focus of hatred, and leave the cops alone to take care of business. However, Shitcago politics won't let that happen.

Maybe he's been gone so long, and went away and cried when Hillard was chosen, what happens he comes back and someone pisses in his cereal again? Will he leave again? Chose an active officer but that would be the proper way!
