Spring is Here

Not by the calendar of course. But by the number of unpredicted shootings:
  • Several people suffered gunshot wounds in various parts of the city Wednesday as the mild temperatures began to take hold, officials said.

The first shooting occurred on the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue at 4:23 p.m. and resulted in a 38-year-old man being shot in the left side of his body, police said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition had stabilized, police said.

The man was on the street in the Washington Park neighborhood when two men standing across the street pulled out a handgun and fired several times, striking the victim, police said.
Additional shootings in Englewood, two in Rogers Park and another at 69th and Yale.

In somewhat related news, an AdMin Fax is out saying that all crime predicting data will be released ONLY through the D.O.C. and CPIC. Nothing at all about the Crystal Ball Unit (Predictive Analytics). Have the boys and girls over at the CBU been clipped?

These are just the usual day-and-night mayhem -- what I liked tonight were the headlines glaring from all the Sun-Times newspaper boxes on all the corners.

Witnesses question accounts of homicide case tied to Daley nephew

By TIM NOVAK and CHRIS FUSCO Staff Reporters Mar 16, 2011 05:24PM

"The Chicago Police Department’s accounts of a drunken Rush Street confrontation seven years ago involving Richard J. “R.J.” Vanecko — a nephew of Mayor Daley and White House chief of staff William Daley — and its two resulting investigations into David Koschman’s death fill 82 pages.

"Yet the half-inch-thick series of police reports — recently released two months after a Chicago Sun-Times public records request — leaves gaps in recounting what witnesses say happened in the early-morning hours of April 25, 2004, a Sun-Times investigation has found.

"The police reports also attribute statements to friends of Koschman — and to a bystander described by prosecutors as one of the two “unbiased witnesses” — that they say they didn’t make or that distort what they told detectives..."

It's not going away, is it, R.J.? Sweat, you motherf__er.

You never know what will happen when your sleeve gets caught up in the gears of "justice" and you get pulled in. There are people in Illinois prisons who've been there since the 1940s.

Oh, privilege? You think you'll buy your way out? Bernard Madoff had lots of money -- I think he's doing 120 years.

Sometimes they simply CAN'T let someone like you walk away because it would make a laughing stock of the judicial system.

Boy, something tells me that you might be made an example of.

Sweet dreams.

OT--

Here, the delicate, maybe-they-happened-maybe-they-didn't negotiations begin to attempt to lever Father Michael Pfleger out of his empire at St. Sabina's -- 30 years, 'way longer than priests usually stay and even longer than we've suffered under Mayor Daley II.

"Cardinal Francis George had dinner with the Rev. Michael Pfleger Friday to discuss the possibility of Pfleger’s departure from St. Sabina, where the popular, sometimes controversial pastor, has served for 30 years, a source told the Chicago Sun-Times.

"The source, who asked to remain anonymous, said “several options” for Pfleger’s post-St. Sabina future were discussed. But “no offer was proffered,” the source said...

Leo High School President Dan McGrath strokes -- “Look down 79th Street and all redevelopment you see is attributable to him." Oh, come on. Without a dollar of tax money involved? Ha.

Reminds me of some of the great federal grant-appliers of years past -- just saw an article on how some do-gooder guy set the CVL up in all kinds of businesses on our dime, which have all gone to rack and ruin now, all boarded up again and back to Square Zero.

Expect more of the same.

Pfleger should spend a long, slow decline inventorying school supplies somewhere in South Dakota, with no media contact, just three hots and a cot and the warm glow of service to his God.

Big police/fire response to East Avenue/Cermak Road in Berwyn this evening as well. Battalion chief left but it sounded like more ambos were coming. One person seen to be seated on the ground, possibly young Mexican female, back to a garage door, in the space between the door and the front of a car left on the garage apron, two paramedics down there with her. No idea.

OT -- Here, one of the worst North Side "nursing homes" is gonna get the plug pulled.

Troubled Chicago nursing home may lose Medicaid funding

"Authorities have documented knife attacks, drug abuse at Wincrest Nursing Center

"Wincrest Nursing Center is an 80-bed home that primarily houses adults with mental illnesses, including dozens with felony records.

By David Jackson and Gary Marx, Tribune reporters

6:15 p.m. CDT, March 16, 2011

"Federal authorities are moving this week to terminate Medicaid funding to the troubled Wincrest Nursing Center on the city's North Side after state and federal inspections documented residents engaged in bloody fights and drug abuse that spilled from the facility out into the surrounding community.

"An 80-bed home that primarily houses adults with mental illnesses, including dozens with felony records, Wincrest has for years been the subject of complaints by local officials and neighbors, as well as students and staff from nearby Loyola University Chicago. Seven Loyola residence halls housing about 600 students stand within a block of the home at 6326 N. Winthrop Ave..."

The way the helpless, terrified elderly are forced into contact in nursing homes with violent parolees, sex offenders, and mental cases is the shame of the state of Illinois. How about it, Lisa Madigan, "chief law enforcement officer?" Too busy clawing for power to help?

Could this be the reason that the computers were taken away from the MSF intel staff by IAD??? Have you, as a patrolman, ever received intel that came from the pointless D.O.C. meetings? I haven't! Word is that MSF can no longer disseminate information to its officers gathered through intel and spread through the dept. about gang conflicts, hot spots, wanted persons and areas of concern. I have always thought that the more a officer knows, the better equipped he will be....
Apparently, the powers at 35th St disagree.

A guy from CPIC came to roll call and spoke of recent TLO meetings and the importance of information reports etc. However, it seems they simply dropped many officers as TLO's arbitrarily and without warning or notice.

They just decided they had too many and poof, many were gone. But hey, please take it seriously and contribute those reports because we are the eyes and ears etc.

More bullshit.

The last time I was up at the Fusion Center they were all booking travel plans and pricing air fares and checking email on the banks of computers up there. Not one person I saw was actually doing any work.

And this is our front line of defense in the event of terrorist attack. The nerve center. The nexus of the whole operation.

And Daley is worried about more runways and another two Wal-marts on the south side.

Prepare yourselves in case of emergency because if there is a shitstorm this place is not prepared.

Quit patting yourself on your back, HANDJOB.

The reason your phone was ringing is because they took damn near EVERYONE out of patrol to go to that dipshit unit in the first place.

You want to go pump your chest out sonny boy, that is fine, but go 57-2 in the morning sometime and listen to the BS the HANDJOBS in "Strike Force" bring in. MSF INTEL REPORT for 17MAR11:

Per Commanding Officer, Mobile Strike Force, every officer assigned to this unit will today begin OPERATION HUGE TOOLS. Objective of said operation is to ensure that every MSF officer is so hated and dispised in the department that there would be no choice but to keep the unit going cause no one else would want to work with us.

Officers are instructed to post asinine comments on police related blogs, drive around in such a manner as to imply an attitutde of "our shit don't stink", and generally be the biggest fuck-mook's ever.

The officers in MSF are way too young in age and have virtually no experience. Great majority are primadonnas who need a reality check! It's time for the unit to downsize to a more managable size. 350 plus is ridiculous!
Critics in MSF may cry foul, but believe me, MSF has run it's course and has failed in comparison to S.O.S. Ask any former S.O.S copper who has left MSF (there are many) and they will tell you the leadership at the Lieutenant level has been sorely lacking. The ONLY one worth his salt there is Godsel. The other two are destroying morale daily and not fit to lead men! Back in my heyday, HBT days, I would have leaned on them a bit to make things right, but this day and age dictates you can't. March 19 'Supermoon' May Cause Moonquakes, Scientist Says

By Loren Grush

Published March 12, 2011

"There’s a supermoon on the rise next week. And according to Internet buzz, it’ll bring a scary surge in natural disasters around the globe.

"On March 19, Earth’s satellite will be at its closest point to our planet in 18 years -- a mere 356,577 kilometers away. The event -- also called a lunar perigee -- was dubbed a "supermoon" by astrologer Richard Nolle back in the 1970s. The term is used to describe a new or full moon at 90% or more of its closest orbit to Earth. Next week, it will be at 100%.

"On his website Astropro, Nolle warns Earth’s inhabitants to prepare themselves during the “supermoon risk window,” which ranges from March 16 – 22. During this time, Nolle claims there will be an increase in supreme tidal surges, magnitude 5 or higher earthquakes, and even volcanic activity..."

House-Size Asteroid Zooms Close by Earth

Published March 17, 2011

"This NASA graphic depicts the orbit (blue curve) of asteroid 2011 EB47, which will pass close by Earth within the orbit of the moon on March 16, 2011, one day after it was discovered. The asteroid poses no threat of impacting Earth.
An asteroid the size of a house zoomed by Earth Wednesday, flying within the orbit of the moon just one day after astronomers spotting the space rock in the sky, NASA says.

"The small asteroid 2011 EB74 was about 47 feet across and posed no threat of hitting Earth, since it was too small to survive the trip through the planet's atmosphere."

I heard and seen a lot about MSF and TRU getting sent to places that are getting creamed on the streets- both units send out what size teams they have working that night and they get put in where they need them. MSF has a lot of bodies. I mean a lot. TRU seems a lot smaller. GUess which always seems more affective? Yep- the smaller one. Don't know why but it was the same all the time. That and getting help from TRU was always easier then from MSF. Don't know if it's there office people or because of where they are or what. Just my opinion.

To all of you in Rogers Park, you can solely thank Daley for shootings in your neighborhood. You see, when he let the dogs out of the CHA, he gave them vouchers for your neighborhood. Those were not school vouchers, they were Section 8 vouchers and now you get to enjoy diversity and shootings in what used to be a good place to live in the city. Remember, keep voting for democrats, idiots.

Isn't it fairly easy to predict that there will be more street crime when:
1) the weather suddenly gets warm
2) the moon goes full

It's not rocket science. Nor does it require expensive computers and analysis models.

you left out the 3rd factor.

do ya think this is the sun-times blog?

If you mix drinks as well as metaphors, you'd be a hell of a bartender.

Funny. All the people screaming to downsize MSF but who's phone was ringing off the hook tonight to send more cars, send more cars!

Yeah Moron, because we need you actually working here in patrol not sitting in restaurants for 5 hours a night with 8 of your buddies.

Father Phleger will be going into semi-retirement. His only job will be to revamp and manage the Knights of Columbus Father Perez charter.

He'll never make it past all of the CPD/CFD/irish/former Sabina parishoners in there. Plus it's too close to Christina, and Fr. Marty & Purtell would just walk down and kick his ass. Fr. Hurley might even stop by for the beat down.

Oh yes, downsize Unit 153. I'm of the old school thought processing..."If one cannot solve a problem, then it must be eliminated". MSF is nothing like old S.O.S and it never will be again.
Publish this if you want, I don't give a rat's ass anymore about whether I stay or go?

True! The kids here have no street experience and have no clue how to be the "cops"! I was there and left, they act like the world owes them and cannot be told anything, typical party on college kids!

S.O.S coppers come help one of your own at Bourbon Street tonight between 7pm-12.!!! Great guy who really got railroaded by supervisors. His family need money now that he's been fired. Show you still care...we're all we have in CPD.

"I thought Rogers Park is going through gentrification???
*****
It is. Building by building. Block by Block. It'll take a very long time in east Rogers Park."

After watching it for thirty years, I can say that the Kenmore/Winthrop corridor is also in an effectively permanent state of "gentrification with high crime."

Shut up. Some not all. You'll find the same in the district or unit you are in now. Most are decent hard working coppers. Try and teach the youngsters something instead of running away and talking shit. Then again, running with tail between legs is always easier than loyalty and sticking it out to work with people you could pass something on to.
