Cop Wounded - Will Be OK

  • A Chicago police officer was shot in the leg and a suspected robber was fatally wounded Monday night at a Family Dollar store in the West Englewood neighborhood, officials said.

Shots were fired by police at about 8:35 p.m. to stop an apparent robbery at the store in the 6300 block of S. Ashland, police officials said.

Witnesses said they heard at least a dozen gunshots.

"I saw the cashiers running out," recalled Kevin Pride, 51 of Englewood, who was outside a nearby store during the incident. "They were screaming. Then police ran in. And then you the shots."

Bad guy dead, cop will be OK. A fantastic job all around. Speedy recovery Officer. And a job well done by all responding units.

FANTASTIC job officers! You made us all proud today! Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Off topic- Congrats to the CPD football team for thr big won on Saturday. The defense was a beast, and even though the offense struggled, you found a way to get the job done!

I sleep well knowing there are officers out there willing to run towards the sound of gunfire over that previous sorry excuse for a Superintendent that ducked out from the sound two blocks away and hid in his Expedition.

I'm glad the Chicago Police officer is ok and God Bless the Chicago Police!

In other news, concrete proof the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Breaking News are anti-gun, running stories about kid getting shot in a hunting accident 125 miles north of Chicago, (North of Milwaukee!) and posting it on 'Chicago Breaking News.'

This is the standard type of police work demonstrated day in and day out. Cashiers were running out, and the police ran inside and exchanged gunfire with offenders. Chicago Police are fucking fearless to the end! God bless you Officers and wishing you a speedy recovery. Thanks for a job well done.

Why couldn't the police just have shot the gun out of the man's hand? There was some good in that man, he could have been rehabilitated, turned his life around. Now we are deprived of another potential rap star. Another 8th grade education wasted, 12 years of school down the drain.

Damn.

The dead suspect was identified this morning by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Jerome Williams, 27, of the of the 6400 block of South Justine Street. Court records show he was sentenced to 5 years in prison for aggravated discharge of a weapon in 2001 and to 14 years for conspiracy to commit murder in 2005.

Ok, I'm no math expert but 2005 + 14 = 2019. Even if he served half that is still 2012. Got to love that math program Crook county has going. This piece of shit should have still been in prison. At least now he will no longer be able to harm anyone. God bless the officers involved.

OT

The police union warned of lawlessness. The mayor said a busted budget left him no choice. On Monday, pink slips for 125 cops took effect in Paterson, N.J.

It’s not clear if the cuts affected response times for the short-handed force, but NBC New York took to the streets with a police scanner to shadow officers as they grappled with reduced manpower in the neighborhoods of New Jersey’s third-largest city.

OT: Interesting fact learned at today's FOP meeting, IAD investigator, Police Agent A.W. was found to be living in.... Park Ridge!

This cop has prepared many cases against other cops and brought many up to the Supt. for officers to be fired and was himself in violation of the City's residency rule!

This is a termination offense! This isn't a 5 day suspension, say you're sorry and move back in; this is supposed to be automatic termination. And of all people, an IAD investigator taking an active part in firing other cops!

Hey reporters, get on this, this is fact, Police Agent A.W., related to the former narcotics court judge with the same last name of Branch 57. (long time gone)

I hope the department doesn't now try to use his cases in the firing of police officers seeing as how he has violated the affidavit of residency he signed.

Don't believe it? Call IAD, ask for Al.

I have to believe the scriptwriters for "Chicago Code" have been reading this blog, i.e. the opening scene in which a copper is venting to Mancow Muller about the Superintendent being a puppet of City Hall, hiring freezes, and well-liked commanders being launched.
John Heard had Shortshanks nailed. His performance at the news conference, featuring the usual bluster and platitudes, made him seem as though he was channeling Daley. He even managed to look shorter than Jennifer Beals, and according to Internet Movie DataBase Heard is a full inch taller.
I concede the show is no more plausible at times than, say, "Miami Vice," but it's refreshing to see a procedural filmed on location in Chicago as opposed to New York and L.A. CPD has been understandably protective of its image since the "Blues Brothers" fiasco and made a leap of faith by authorizing use of its uniforms, vehicles and insignia. I truly hope Fox give the series a chance, if for no other reason it presents Chicago and CPD in a generally positive light.

Although Vanessa Williams acknowledges her son spent time in prison, she said he was trying to improve his life after getting paroled. He worked as a cook at the I-57 Rib House in Marquette Park, she said. He had two children -- a 7-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy from previous relationships -- but he lived in the basement of the apartment house with his pregnant wife, with whom he spent much of his free time.

The details are much more accurate now, but we're the only ones who know, or care about, that.

They are quoting lines directly from SCC: more dead on the streets of Chicago than in the war, the only reason the murder rate isn't higher is better medical care, no-confidence vote by the reps is only advisory, etc.

Seems we've lost the stupid storyline of the ex and the fiancee and they're focusing on crime and corruption. But, it may be too late; the show's likely to be canceled.

Lots of people with small storefront businesses (1 and 2 person operations) are scared, because many of them have been robbed, too. My friend has a gun, has used it against shitheads before, and is prepared to use it again if they come to rob his business.
