Darwin Award Winner

After all the warnings about train attacks, we're sure many people were on pins and needles when this story hit. Then as the day wore on, we began to wonder why this asshat was driving at all:
  • A truck hauling chunks of concrete made an illegal left turn and drove around crossing gates before slamming into a Metra train in Mount Prospect this morning, officials say.

The truck driver, Kazimierz Karasek, 59, was killed. At least 26 passengers were taken to hospitals and 10 others were treated on the scene. Officials said none of the injuries aboard the train appeared life-threatening.

Karasek, of Prospect Heights, had been cited for more than 50 traffic violations, including a DUI, since 1986.
And then we began to wonder, was this one of George Ryan's gifts that has plagued and most likely continues to plague Illinois roadways years after his imprisonment? He was averaging two moving violations a year for a quarter century. At least his reign of terror is over and he didn't manage to take any innocent lives with him.

"Doood, is OK, have license for truck, many years in home country. Why for fuck you stop me, lots of time for train to come, is slow train, must haul rock, make money."

Company that employed this ass will be destroyed by lawsuits, rightly so, for hiring this chump. These guys get paid by the load, so it's no wonder they drive like maniacs.

I wondered the same thing when I heard the story. Who the f*ck hires someone with that kind of record?

This guy is definitely a Darwin award candidate.
I also nominate the robber who was shot and killed by the police in Bridgeport the other night. His target was 1/2 a block from Dunkin Donuts and 1 block from the new 009th Dist. and he apparently didn't realize that 31st has heavy police traffic. Yep he's Darwin material.

I'm sure that the scumbag ambulance chasing lawyers will find deep pockets to sue and as usual the driver will become a 'victim' without any fault.

Perhaps MORE laws need to be passed in order to keep people like this from acquiring CDL's and endangering the public. What's that? We have them already but don't actually ENFORCE them??

Perhaps then we should pass a law which enables us to enforce the current law.

I you travel in the McCook area and deal with these quarry bombing fuckers you know how this happens. Can't even begin to count the number of these so-called truck drivers yacking on their cell phones while trying to drive. Pull out onto the highway with a full load - two side by side, each straining to get up to 30 MPH - meanwhile cussing out people driving cars for having the audacity to use the road.

It was reported he owned the company.....and his family was surprised because he is a safe driver...(Where, in Poland?)
Anyway, he was just turning his life around and promised that this year he would get no more tickets...guess he got that one right.

Trib had drawing. Guy made left turn out of straight only lane to bypass stopped left-turners waiting for train. Then he went in opposite lanes to go around gates.
Paid by the load guys got to make the cash.....If they are not driving they are losing money. Especially with the cost of diesel.....

Material trucks cause most horific accidents on the highways. Thks G.Ryan. Let this ass out early Fck that everytime one of these situations happen add a year to his sentence. Then again we have to pay for this ass's med bills.

those jags are always spewing stones from the back, they are never covered/tarped hey McCook police and ISP who is getting the "envelope" to let them do as they please,as the stones break windshields and damage cars? Maybe this is a dumb question, but aren't violations like no tarp, etc, huge fines? Schiller Park hawks trucks going to/from O'Hare, for example, just for the revenue that comes from DOT violations. Envelopes aside, it seems like Lake/McHenry counties are passing up a lot of dough by looking the other way on this. What am I missing?

A little late posting here...

On Sunday afternoon was driving south on Lehigh at Touhy when crossing gates came down. To my surprise, I watched three cars go around the gates.
