No CHA Drug Testing

  • A controversial proposal to require all adults who currently live in, or apply for Chicago public housing to be tested for drugs — including senior citizens — is dead, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.

Also, the agency decided to keep the so-called “innocent tenant defense” for residents, referring to evictions initiated when a drug-related or violent crime has been committed by a relative or guest of the leaseholding tenant — without the tenant’s knowledge or involvement.

  • “CHA is not making any changes to its ACOP regarding the proposed drug testing policy and the proposed revision to the tenant defense,” CHA spokeswoman Kellie O’Connell-Miller confirmed. “The CHA received a tremendous amount of feedback during the public comment period, and simply, the result of that is that CHA will not move forward.”
Where did all that "input" come from? Because everyone we talked to thought it was an extremely good idea. Of course, we spoke to taxpayers, people with jobs, people with houses and kids in schools, people who haven't been on the public dole for three, four, five or more generations. In other words, people not beholden to the government for their every need.

SCC, I work in 002 and was detailed to the public forum @48%% and wabash. I probably heard 100 african americans speak and only 3 were against it, even though it was agreed open area drug markets and drugs in general were bad for their community. There was alot of conspiracy talk about how the government allows drugs in the black community and numerous white liberals there. Nobody there seemed to understand that these people are being given a place to live for free, hell why should there be any standards? I believe we have a duty to help the help the poor in America regardless of color, but not support drug users or dealers...please do that in the comfort of your own home not in the comfort of a government housing!!!

Feedback received by CHA:

"What you talkin bout, Willis!"

"Hey! If you drug test me, I'll lose my home, an that ain't right!"

"You drug test me, I'll kill you!"

No one will take a stand. Everyone crying about violating tenants rights, when in fact the leaders in the black community should see this for what it is; a chance for people to get help with a drug problem. If someone flunked a test they would be given a chance to go to government sponsored rehab (yes, more free shit). If they were smart enough to take advantage (a question at best) they the community would be better served by having some drug free people living in the government assisted (again free) housing. So then the kids could go to the free schools via free busses and eat their free three squares, use the free laptop or free wi-fi, and then use the free cell phones which the "G" provides.

When you have no stake in anything, then the things that you get have no value. They become entitlements. And an entitlement means it's mine, with no responsibility on my part. Which means I am not going to submit to a drug test to see if I deserve what I am getting. Because what I am getting is my right, and no one can deny me my rights. That is why in certain elements of our society, things will never change. It is a self fulfilling prophecy.

Where is Bill Cosby and his common sense when we need him?

Crazy. How about not testing anyone. Some might say it puts the drug users out of work! And that's not right. How about testing everyone and we could win the war on drugs. The drug dealers must have a powerful lobbyist group.

Everybody is missing the point here. They can use drugs, commit crimes, etc. The only rule that they must absolutely adhere to is voting Democrat in the election. It has always and will always be that way. Democratic politicians are their enablers because they could never win another election without them. The existence they lead means nothing to the Dems. They are not people to the Dems, just numbers.

this place is broke in finance and moral conduct. this is what happens when you punish/tax good moral citizen and reward the slackers. some people really need help.but, alot are just playing the system. when you reward bad behavior...you get more bad behavior.

So this decision was made by the same people who had their city credit cards pulled by Emmanuel for misuse, i.e. expensive lunches on Rush street, gifts & flowers for friends & other assorted " business meetings "?
And your SURPRISED?

Comrades, the Democrat Party cannot afford to lose their voter base. Did you really think that they were going to pass this here in the Democratic People's Republic of Illinois?

Why not drug test the folks running the CHA. They all seem to be living on some other planet. And take away all those credit cards. Why do they need credit cards anyway? Have the vendors bill the city for whatever legitimate service they need and we can see where our money is being wasted.

I get a government check every 1st and 16th of the month. Yet I am subject to random drug tests and my money is not free. I have to work for it by protecting these same shit heads.

And as to the Aldermen:

So let’s see, making policy and ordinances that affect millions of people and billions of public dollars qualifies you as a person “whose possible drug use raises no significant concerns” than how about that they are allowed to carry concealed firearms without training?

Why don’t a few aldermen raise the bar and volunteer for the testing?
