We assume this is Rahm's pick, but what's a "communications director" for the police department?
- Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's senior press secretary announced today she is leaving Los Angeles for her native Chicago to be the communications director for that city's police department.
Sarah Hamilton will step down from the Los Angeles mayor's staff on Friday. She will start her new job in mid-August.

Hey, 625 city workers getting the pink slip but Rahm just created the new Office of Illegal Alien Affairs (or as he calls it "Office of New Americans") WTF!!!
Calling them the "lifeblood" and the "economic engine" of the city of Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Tuesday announced a new office to help immigrants open small businesses.
One out of every five Chicagoans, the mayor said, are immigrants, and they're 50 percent more likely to start a small business.
The new office -- The Office of New Americans -- will "drive the other pieces," said Emanuel, including licensing and permitting, and will make sure immigrants feel welcome and are aware of the services available to them.
How does he plan to pay for it? The administrative cuts he made to his office shortly after he was inaugurated will cover the new expenses, he said.
"There's money in the budget to do this because I made dramatic cuts for this, with this in mind," he said.

Get reamed on their property taxes, have legitimate DL and auto insurance, so they can get sued on their auto accidents, pay their own medical/ hospital bills or get their wages garnished. Hey, don't knock bad radios and batteries. They take close to an hour a day of my work time. I used to get upset when I had to spend the first hour finding a car in decent repair with good tires with air in them.
Not any more. If the City doesn't mind paying me to spend 10% of my day just getting the basic police equipment together to do my job then I don't mind doing it. That's like another entire furlough per year getting a police car in order with gas and tires and radios with batteries. Add personals and lunch and foot patrol and I would make an old time smile.
Stop fighting them, go with the flow. And if they then want to send a police car to see why little Dontae tells his momma to go fuck herself, no problem, I go. Just so I don't lose sight of what real human beings are like.
I think it's Rahm's way of keeping control of the communications and your Supt. McCarthy from creating any more media uproars (like saying the beaches were closed for "heat" when instead beachgoers were being attacked).

Historically it has been a hand picked civilian picked by the mayor. Then Monique Bond aka Skelator ruined all of Pat's hard work. Pat made News Affairs a great division of the CPD and then she ruined it. All directors prior to her let Pat run News Affairs and the directors strictly dealt with city hall and the superintendent's speeches. They were all smart and let Pat do the talking. Then Skelator ruined it all. Then JFled fired Pat. Then Lt. M B was acting as Pat and there has been two directors since Skelator. This LA chic will be the new director. I am sure Lt. MB will continue to try and be the Pat but will continue to fail. Pat is exactly where he belongs now, speaking for us with FOP and he is scaring the sh#$ out of the city and we love it! Bringing Camden on board for the coppers was a great move. He was the official voice of Daley's CPD and already had the ear and respect of all of the media outlets AND, I believe, the public as well.

The Country needed that bailout according to my friends in that industry. I believe they are in better position to make that call.

During the past three years, Emanuel's charity gave nearly $25,000 to the Anshe Emet synagogue and school [a private school that the Rahm/Rule children attend]..., and $15,000 to the foundation run by former president Bill Clinton. It also gave $14,000 to Marwen, a Chicago charity that provides art classes and other educational help to low-income children. Rule is on Marwen's board.
(He doesn't pay any property taxes and he gets income tax write-offs by donating $25000 to the Synagogue
and other amounts of money to his Foundation. This allows his kids to attend school tuition-free
and allows him to expense a lot of personal expenses. What a racket!
Take all your income and donate it back to yourself via tax exempt orgs where you can spend it on as
expenses to operate your car, pay the electric and water bills, etc.

Emanuel's 4228 North Hermitage home is one of the largest in the neighborhood, with a side yard that appears to be a vacant lot, making the Emanuels' property the largest portion on the block.
Other North Hermitage homes on Emanuel's block are valued in the $500,000 plus range. According to Cook County Treasurer's website, the Chicago owners20of nearby 118 year old 4222 North Hermitage pay almost $6800 annually. The family at 4224 North Heritage pays $6000 each year in property taxes.
President Obama - himself a connected, Chicago insider who has benefited from questionable land deals - may find it difficult to explain why his very own Chicago-based chief of staff doesn't pay property taxes like the "little guy" he claims to represent. Or perhaps allowing his wealthy friends to avoid taxes is part of Obama's trickle down redistribution economics. It's certainly the kind of "change" we Illinoisans can believe in...since we're quite familiar with it here in the federal indictment land of Daley, Blagojevich, Madigan, Jones, Cellini, Rezko, etc.
