The ire I feel right now is only matched by my heartfelt prayers that this Officer recovers quickly- prayers for his or her healing and for the Officer's family. And to you Rahm- where are the 2,000 officers you promised? why the delay and the fancy footwork? this could have been avoided with better protection for the Officers of the Chicago Police Department! Was your campaign promise BOGUS?????? ENOUGH of cops being attacked by thugs and media!!!!

Hey, Mary Mitchell, you happy now? Heaven forbid we should shoot people who shoot US. Just keep encouraging violence against police oficers in your column.

Get well soon, office. Thank God you're going to be okay.

I'm sure Mope-rah and all the Revs will be up in arms about violence targeting police officers. Oh wait, they will probably say the offender had no gun, and we put an attempt murder case on another honor student.

Perhaps the Thug who shot the officer was afraid of him and didn't have the proper traning as a Gangbanger. All that aside hope the officer is ok!

The thumb that was SOS and later TRU and MSF(SOS light) is gone. Combat engagements with the police are growing at an astronomical rate. Our forces are vastly reduced. The sad inevitable result is that we will take casualties. Police blood is squarely on the hands of the media, the superintendent, and the mayor. None of which should be allowed to show their faces at the hospitals of wounded officers with their two faced conciliation. Not that the mayor would ever think to. Who will the Supt call for his obliteration plans? The truth is they don't give a rats ass if we live or die as long we die quietly without offending any gangbanger sensibilities. So the only answer now is that we are out in the valleys of death on our own. As a result we must adjust as a department. Use your uniform check for a combat course. Update your vest. Clean your weapon. PREPARE. Secondarily, use more caution when possible. Check your corners before running into the alley with a man with a gun. DON'T be afraid to call and wait for backup! I see this too much in young officers. I attended or worked all the police funerals last year. I just can't absorb anymore losses, knowing the comtemp the administration and these " communities" have for us. God bless the wounded officer and God bless the rest of us. It appears we are gonna need it., in the words of Sean Connery, thus endeth the lesson. Rant over.

So glad PO is going to be okay, let's hope the media (and Chgo) see this as a notice CPD needs more officers.

If you are off duty, carry an off duty weapon and make sure each shot counts.

When Gangsters sprayed graffiti on Mary Mitchell's garage door about a year ago she raised Holy Hell in one of her columns. Everything is PERSONAL, Mary. When that happened to you, Mary you were the VICTIM. It didn't feel so good did it? Mary also rides the CTA El train. My partner pointed her out to me one day when we rode the N/B Red Line. She must see what goes on while riding that train every day. But the Sun Times doesn't pay her to say nice things about the police.

Wishes for a complete recovery, and all you Coppers out there, don't let the Communist News Media get to you. Just lock them up every chance you catch them dirty or in violation. They are your Enemy, except when they want something from you, so wise up and treat them as such. Make it a priority to fuck them every time you can legally do so.

PO is fine, minor graze wound. However, he was very lucky. 1 round through the windshield, lodged in the headrest. This could have been very bad. Very nice job by all involved at multiple crime scenes involving numerous districts!

The blood of every copper is on your hands Mary Mitchell. And how bout this, even the blood of every piece of crap that you defend in your non-sensical articles is on your hands. Your article serves no one except those looking for anyone to blame but themselves!! One day when this city burns, and it will, and hundreds are injured, millions of dollars of property are destroyed and heaven forbid innocent citizens or men in uniform are killed, you can be proud at the role you played. You are such an ignorant, racist, media hack. You should be ashamed to show your face in public not to mention ever look a cop in the eye as he risks his life for your pathetic selfish ass. Thanks Mary, you've made up my mind, as a cop who gave 110% day in and day out despite being spat upon by fools like you, its no longer worth it. When you take men who will risk their lives and you treat them the way you do you should feel mighty proud that you had such an effect on society. Go throw a welcome home party for your eight holed little hero. Fuck you and fuck this job. And yes I'm a cop, but only on the 1st and 16th now.

Best wishes for a full recovery.

But why in God's name would you get involved in ANYTHING off duty, unless someone is shot in front of you?

This city does not have your back, and doesn't care about fighting crime.

Put the blinders on after your tour. Period.

Why is a ODPO involved in crime and chasing bad guys? Is it worth with off duty? I am grateful the officer survived but there has to be limits when off duty. Unless I am attacked off duty or to protect another officer I would not fight crime.

It is just not worth it to get into anything off duty--write down the info, follow-up at work when you get there.

It they aren't hesitant to shoot us while we're on duty, they sure won't hesitate to shoot us when we're off-duty and alone!

From breaking news..."In a statement by Chicago Police, officials said that the officer had received information about criminal activity taking place on the 100 block of West 80th Street at about 2:15 p.m. When he saw a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle he followed it while in contact with 911 officials, police said.
When the officer got to 47th Street at Lasalle Street, a person from the vehicle fired shots at the officer who also returned fire, police said. "
He followed the car for 33 blocks? Why did it take so long for the on duty guys respond? 80th/perry that's 006, 47th/lasalle is 002? Did they take the eway? We need more coppers out there

I think you probably don't fight too much crime while at work anyway with that attitude.

From the various bits and pieces, it sounds like he has a company car and a radio. So, if he was monitoring, he was a responding unit and, apparently, first on the scene.

So, a little respect, please, rather than bitching at him for doing what we all swore we would do.
