R.I.P. MSF/TRU

It's official:
  • The Lodge has finally been given information regarding the fate of the MSF/TRU Officers that were detailed to various District Law Enforcement Units. The MSF and TRU will cease to exist on change day, August 18, 2011

Recognized vacancies will be posted by the Department on Friday, July 29. These openings will likely be in Districts 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008, 011, and 015. A very limited number of openings in Northside Districts may be made available. MSF/TRU Officers may participate in this round of bidding. Those MSF/TRU Officers who participate and are successful bidders will be locked into these bids for one-year period.

  • This is the reward for these Officers who exhibited professionalism and a dedicated work ethic in areas that most officers would prefer not to work. Please keep this in mind when the Department offers another opportunity to work in another non-bid unit. The risks outweigh the rewards.
The countdown to a new citywide deploy-able non-bid unit begins in 3....2....1....

Ever seen a grown man cry?. Well you wont see any of these grown men cry, WHY ? because they were all clout baby hairgels anyway. One bag , jump on the paper so we can all get credit boys that have outlived their uselessness.

Now another phenomenon will surely happen. It's called the "plummeting back to earth" theory. Ever see a tact or gangs guy that got dumped? They come back to the watch and never even take out any violations books and vow never ever to do any paper unless it is humanly impossible. That is the legacy of J-Fled and it continues the new superetardo McNutty. De-Policing at it's finest will continue. ...and don't even think of being trigger happy to take out your grief on the honor students of this fair city , you hard chargers.Frank lame brain main is watching. hahahahha

Despite it all though, the minute this department creates another city wide unit. The suckers, I mean officers will be lined up to join it. Then when they get screwed they will want the rest of us to feel sorry for them. Any officer that joined MSF or TRU was an idiot because they knew the city could send them on on a detail anywhere. Yet they signed up for it.

There will always be an ample amount of heroes to fill these non bid spots. So when the next tuff guy unit comes out and is disbanded again resulting in your dumping to a crap district, don’t blame anyone but yourself because you asked to go to the unit, interviewed for the unit, and you will go down in flames with the unit in the end.

You are warned.

I am a former young, dedicated, dynamic and aggressive MSF officer. Now I am stuck in a deep south side district. Not only that, we will be stuck in this shit hole for at least 13 to 17 years. That is based on current hiring trend by the city. I can't believe this happened to me. I should have listened to the old timers who told me "don't do it, the city can cancel your detail and then send your ass to where ever they want and guess which districts will it be?"

As they say, this too shall pass, new assignments, new friends and new challenges but they can't take away the fun we had and the memories we made.

A new citywide deploy-able non-bid unit? You can keep that shit!

I can't speak for TRU, but if any one in MSF has anything to do with a new unit, keep as far away as possible! That is unless of course you like to be micro managed, nit picked, told how to be the police, and have an over inflated ego while at the same time have three years of experience.

I mean this place had zero standard whatsoever. Which should have been an idicator when they don't even bother to look at a PO's stats when deciding to bring them over. That and the numerous problematic PO's that no one wants to work with because they're either lazy, stupid, know's it all and panders to criminals-B.S. or will likely end up in prison at some point.

You young guys may consider me a dog, but after 23 years I know how this city/department works. Now you know part of the reason I'm a dog. Now if I could only pick winning lotto tickets and stocks like I can pick what the city/department will do.

If you pull up officer activity in any district, you will see some officers on the list that have been retired 5+ years on it. No joke. My relatively new W/C asked me about some of the names. If you look on the CLEAR employee number search, you will see that only exempts/news affairs can search for inactive members.

This is probably the same list they use for the 13,000 number.

Let's face the cold hard facts folks. The biggest mistake made by this department was when they disbanded MSF and TRU. For all of you non MSF/TRU officers, you can laugh or be cynical. But we did the job that was necessary. Things are not perfect and never will be. But MSF and TRU went into the most dangerous districts and cleaned things up. Bring them back.

Don't you see?

The goal is to generate city revenue via fines it's not about fighting crime. Fighting crime is all that fantasy comic book stuff that you find romanticized about in the movies.

We want you to stop busting people for pot for example. Ask the county board prez. She'll tell you.

For starters these people are not working and have nothing else to do with their time but go to court seeking one continuance after another until the case is dropped or they get supervision.

You throw them in the shitter and the place is already loaded with them in the shitter and that places even more or a burden on the taxpayers.

Now they have to feed the pot heads AND house them.

You can't fine them as they have no money.

So it's a lose-lose situation driving the city deeper into debt.

What do they do? Tie up the courts, the system, the manpower.

Same goes for the illegal immigrants. They have no documented source of income to pay fines with.

See, the people that CPD needs to hit are the working stiffs that are trying to play by the rules and trying to get by.

The working stiffs can't afford to take a day off work to fight some bullshit tickets or violations.

There's your easy pickings right there.

Get the money from them.

Nail 'em for back seat seat-belt violations. Nail them for talking on the cell while driving or if they happen to roll through a right turn on red light camera at .0004 MPH...

Hey the law is the law and the police are sworn to uphold the laws.....unless they don't feel like it and don't like the law.

Then you get to choose which laws you like and to whom they should apply.

You get to play favorites like the politicians play favorites with corporate tax breaks deciding who pays or who doesn't based upon if you get something in return like...oh I don't know...maybe a free trip to Israel or something let's say or maybe a campaign contribution.

You see smoking that pot is not a criminal thing it's a social issue and we've had it wrong for the last 40 years or so since whenever Nancy Regan declared that war on drugs.

Yeah...that's a social issue. We need to concentrate ON THE CRIMES. The talking on your cell phone while driving. The riding in the back seat with no seat belt on and the red light cameras. Those are the real crimes unlike that social issue like smoking pot.

Besides. Look at all the revenue the city can generate from that eh?

/sarcasm

Off topic, Washington Post quoted in Tribune editorial - Michael Cembalest, chief investment officer of JP Morgan Chase to private banking clients - "U.S. Labor compensation is now at a 50 year low relative to both company sales and U. S. gross domestic product." What does this mean? The super rich, who really control everything, are getting richer by cashing in on the economic chaos, created by them, while the working class is getting poorer and poorer. The smear campaign propagated by them in the media, blaming unions and public servants' greed for the downfall of the economy and calling for shared sacrifice, has worked wonderfully for them.

I was in TRU a while back & there are some hard working P.O.'s over there. But, there are a lot of lazy people who rely on paper jumping and think they are too good to do a domestic report, accident report, etc; etc. That stuff is the fundementals of police work...answering calls and handling them accordingly. There are too many hard chargers looking for big felony arrests, and not enough wanting to do the basic police work needed.

As an aging veteran I can say with conviction that the best place to hide is in plain sight. The guiding beacon is the age old theory of "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle them with bullshit."

Look to the the old guys, they have been here quite a while and most have seen this shit before. There is nothing new under the sun.

Never trust anything a boss tells you. They want to make their careers on your back. Listen to the old guys with a grain of salt at least.

Off Topic, but is anyone else really pissed off about this morning's editorial in the Sun-Times? Where is the FOP on this? McCarthy? Emmanuel? Their comments were outrageous.

Why are police involved in so many shootings? Maybe because the thug culture glorifies cop killing and young black men decide to try and shoot a copper instead of running.

let all the shit talking begin from the sick p o s that enjoy seeing other p os misfortune. We'll fact is that innmy time at Msf I didn't take 8 hour lunches and my team didn't paper jump on arrests. Two would stay and the rest would hit the street. I never considered myself elite in fact I don't know any that did. Yes we had our strokes but so does each unit district and watch. I had some.great training opportunity, got the chance to see the city and took a break from the district which I was at for years and now going back to. I can't stand the shit talking. We all wear blue. No matter what I back people up on stops ride on jobs and waive and say hematter matter what. Now who is the better policeman? Thenone that rejoices at others misfortune, talks shit on a blog, and then befriends the same people in actual interaction

If you pull up officer activity in any district, you will see some officers on the list that have been retired 5+ years on it. No joke. My relatively new W/C asked me about some of the names. If you look on the CLEAR employee number search, you will see that only exempts/news affairs can search for inactive members.

Thats because Lewin layed everyone off and there is no one to update the database. There are other tasks that are not being performed which will come to light when the system crashes.

You've got to be kidding me. What made you different from any other district or area team? All you did was generate numbers. The only thing MSF did that was different was riding 3 cars deep with 4 men per car. Nobody is impressed with working in the ghetto, it just makes the days/nights interesting.

Its a terrible shame how this department treats the workers. But, every one knows they will create another unit soon. All I can say is if any cop volunteers for the next bs unit they create you get what you deserve. Do not be a ass and go willingly, force the department to fill the unit by reverse senority.

How many times does a person need to get kicked in the face before they learn their lesson. Any one who volunteers for the next special unit is a complete ass@&le. Cops have to stop believing they are so special that they need to be on a special unit. If we are so special we would not be cops in the first place. Also, before anyone starts throwing cheap shots I did the gang, tact and SOS bs. The only difference is I learned my lesson and will never make that mistake again. Patrol for life is what each and every blue shirts motto should be. Force the department to fill tact teams by reverse seniority also.

Heres the "million dollar question", kid:

When the Dept opens up a new high speed, kick ass, generate revenue...err, umm, lock-em-up unit, are YOU going to raise your hand? You probably live across the street from Niles or Park Rigde and go to 004 or 005. Are YOU going to go to that unit to get out of where you're at? Or stick it out till you can bid?

Hard choice....

First off we former msf and tru officers have been back in the district for over two months now all the crying has been over no one expected to go back. I am getting tired of hearing bs about time on the job I challenge each of you to pull up your districts seniority roster and compare your time to the guys and gals detailed in from tru and msf if you don't have more time then all of them shut up already a hint for you if you have less than 20 its likely that some of them have more than you if you have less than 15 its highly likely. If you have less than 10 there is no doubt. So if this applies to you please shut up about time. Now then we had a good run its time to move on. Oh btw hairgel really? There is a hell of alot more gel in every ghetto district in this city than any of the citywide units and trust me I've worked in each and every one of them. Now then I looked forward to working with every officer on the watch in my soon to be new district we will have ups and downs but still have alot of fun.

021 is a pretty big district. I guess we're just going to dump all that space to patrol on 002 and 001? Give them each another hospital and they can split the lake front? There may not be alot of crime there but it's sure alot of area to cover with service calls and paper jobs.

Nothing lasts forever. This job will never be what it was when our uncles or fathers were on. Even ten years ago. Never the less it's still a decent way to make a living. Worked in a trade before I got on. Unless we were inside if it rained you didn't work and didn't get paid. If it was too cold out you didn't work and didn't get paid. Our job has it's moments where you scratch your head and count your blessings you came out unscaved. All in all it's still a very good job. We still have have it better than most of those in the private sector for the time being. Be smart about what you do and go home to your families.

7/29/2011 12:48:00 AM

That is the truth. Be grateful for your job and good benefits. How many times have they changed the name of a mobile force of officers since 1970? SOS, task force. The names and players will change but the concept will be the same. Move on and wait for the next opportunity. Bitching is a complete waste of time. Look for a good partner and a steady beat car. Wait for the command changes.

McCarhy , it's long overdue
Close 13 and 21
these districts have no lock up , no parking , little crime , only 9 primary beats , it would cut a few million from cpd budget

Another crying sap who fails to comprehend that his brilliant idea means nothing because police STILL have to police there.

The fucking buildings don't mean shit.

Roussell will be the interim commander of 24 as Wick retires 01 August. Keating ... retired quite a few months ago and is running Navy Pier's security. I think you meant Ryan ...

7/28/2011 01:13:00 PM

You talk like no one has ever worked in that district before and your so brave for going in there and getting some mope with weed. Get over yourself many many many have done it before you and many many many will do it after you. MSF and TRU are the police just like a beat cop who is in that Same district except you guys had the pleasure of picking your arrests and enjoying 2 hour lunches. There is no difference between 4 MSF guys in a car or the guy pushing 1134 etc etc. Your all in the same dangerous district dipshit doesn't make you more daring or courageous because your in a unit.

It's really old reading comments from the disgruntled that didn't get chosen for msf or tru, its obvious by your comments. We see how bitter the other officers are, not tru and msf officers.

7/29/2011 05:02:00 AM
Delusional @ best. Chosen? No didnt have the phone call to get out of patrol or had enough integrity not to sell themselves out for some nonsense what those units turned out to be.

I will never feel bad for the MSF guys, especially former SOS guys who went there.

This clown Jody boy, disbands an entire unit and threw good coppers under the bus for no reason.

And what did you sellouts do?

You crawled to Jody boys new unit. A unit that had the same EXACT mission as SOS.

You had a chance to stick together officers. Solidarity! You had a chance to say screw you Jody, and make him look like an ass. Well, who's the ass now?

Some of you guys would sell your soul to be citywide. You guys only play for "your" team.

7/28/2011 07:37:00 PM

jody didn't disband sos it was starks, stupid.

The FOP had the chance to help out the MSF/TRU guys, but guess what they didn't. FOP was told after the recognized vacanices were filled, the spots that were created by people bidding out would be made available to msf/tru superbid. But the FOP said no, it didnt effect enough officers and wouldnt benefit the majority of its membership. I guess its a valid point, but they use it all the time.

So, all of you haters that have said we will be disbanded for the last 3 years....WRONG! So far so good. You can just keep on hating.

The scanners are being installed so when you are running late you will get fucked by the company. more the 7 minutes they dock you pay. No more early duck when you did that good pinch.
Worst of all is that relief will be face to face and we will being staying to the very last second, just like in a factory.

It sucks for the MSF/TRU guys. I'm one of them. I'm sorry we have to drive far from home or work in a place you don't want to. But we did sign up for the unit and knew (or should have) that this event may have taken place. We may have been screwed by the Department or the Union. SOS got a super bid. MSF/TRU didn't.

On the other hand, to all those officers bashing MSF/TRU guys I say calm down. You don't need clout to get into those units. It isn't Fugitive Apprehension. I also don't understand when people say "That's what you get for leaving." You're right, we should stay on a beat for thirty years and never leave. Never take a chance on anything. Sounds like fun.

To all the one bag arrest bashers, it's the job we were told to do. Make arrests. Sometimes, he's a shithead and needs to get locked up. Other times, you found him dirty, he's had four UUW arrests and one AGG BATT to PO. He's gonna get locked up. Even if it's just for six hours.

Most of the juice babies have rooked nice spots on midnight surppresion teams or an 06 car and tact. I feel for those few with less than10yrs who aren't going anywhere. Welcome to Southchitgetto

7/28/2011 08:02:00

Nobody uses a phone call to go to an 06 car or midnight suppression teams, whatever the fuck that is. You use a phone call to go to Narcotics, Gang Intel, etc. TRU and MSF where one of the few places outside of patrol that a PO without a phone call could go. A phone call always helps, but was not needed for those units.

Can you imagine a garage sale at Leo's? Racks of rifles, boxes of ammo, Ninja suits, smoke grenades and such. Too funny.

I'm not fan of our FOP president and most of his officers, but there is nothing the FOP can do for you per the contract. You went to non-bid position and the mayor can do what ever he wants with you.

Just remember most of TRU/MSF voted for Shields.

7/28/2011 09:25:00 PM

And because of this they would be idiots to vote for him again.

"A/5 GEU, Leads the whole city in arrest/search warrants..."

Brilliance #1: Sorry, as far as GEU, area 1 leads all gang enforcement in search warrants AND guns recovered.

"So will GEU today. Today at1700 hrs there is a unit meeting at human sq with the Supt. Just like MSF and TRU"

Brilliance #2: So much for that predication. GEU actually does work and is STILL standing.

"That is a NEGATIVE ghost rider.... there is a team in narcotics, some task force, of 8 guys, who have done 300 warrants a year for the past 3 years.

"Great job by both teams, but please, get the facts correct."

And taking the cake: Get the facts correct??? So this team of 8 guys never took a day off or furlough and where able to do 300 search warrants a year for 3 years? Holy Smoke!! I'm not a rocket scientist by any means but really? 300 a year? 900 in 3 years? You should really inventory that shit instead of smoking it.

Look into CLEAR - the facts are there. I have seen this team in 5 before, they go out and do three or four a day once a week. They hump, no smoking there, if that is your thing.
