What Was That Noise?

  • An off-duty Chicago Police officer shot a 38-year-old man in his hand Tuesday night on the Northwest Side, police said.

The man was shot around 10:30 p.m. in the 4400 block of West Armitage, police said.

He was later taken to an area hospital and was arrested, police said

Police did not provide further details.

But Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden said the shooting happened while an off-duty narcotics officer was trying to help a driver during an auto accident.
The man approached the officer and asked if he had a “f------- problem,” Camden said. The officer replied that he did not have a problem but was an officer.

The man then tried to open the officer’s unmarked police car and reached into a waistband, Camden said. The officer responded by shooting the man, Camden said.

The man did not have a weapon, Camden added.

Point of order Mr. Camden - the man did not have a weapon....yet. If he gets control of that officer's weapon, who knows what could have happened. That close, in a confined space, shooting the shithead was most likely the only option, but you see how the media played it already - "The man did not have a weapon." Hopefully, Camden did say this and the media is just up to its old tricks.

Otherwise, Camden continues to do a fine job getting the word out.

Hey Pat, sit this punk down and define terms such as aggravated assault to a PO, Offender, Traffic violator other than the nonsense he writes

All of these incidents with police - both on-duty and off-duty scream that we need concealed carry in this state.

After seeing these incidents written up on SCC, the average person is open to becoming a victim if they are unarmed.

Illinois - unique in its position that denies the second Amendment to its residents.

Maybe we should file a class-action suit in federal court saying that Illinois and its corrupt politicians have denied us our Civil Rights (being covered by the second Amendment).

The officer is lucky that he shot the guy before he could get the jump on him. As to feeling sorry for the "shooting victim" (as they will portray the offender in the media), I say the more these parasites get shot the less their brethren will "take a chance" on trying to take on a potential victim.

50 Chicago cops to be deployed to rail, bus stations

Mayor Rahm Emanuel plans to hire 50 full-time police officers to patrol rail and bus stations around the city.

The officers will come from the fall class of the Chicago Police Academy and will be detailed to public transportation by the spring of 2012....

"The man approached the officer and asked if he had a 'f------- problem,' The officer replied that he did not have a problem but was an officer.

"The man then tried to open the officer’s unmarked police car and reached into a waistband..."

What the hell is causing this?

These people are literally walking around in some sort of dream, a construct of the world in which they have unlimited power and can do whatever weird, nonsensical thing that crosses their mind. "Acting out," in a big way.

Do not underestimate the effects of music videos on the ignorant; depictions of entire city streets where the whole population, everyone you can see in a car, through a window, on the sidewalk is rocking back and forth and stepping and signifying to the tune of one master beat that fills the world.

Some people fall asleep and begin repeating words, lyrics, whole stanzas of this material. Their brains are full of nothing else.

Hypnosis is the word I'm looking for -- in the Kenya rebellion in the Fifties, the fighters had been so chanted over and encouraged by witch doctors that they were certain that bullets would pass harmlessly though them like water. On they came, bug-eyed on dagga, marijuana, waving their guns and sticks and pangas, bush knives.

"Mai Mulele! Mai Mulele! MAI MULELE!" they roared, to keep the bullets off.

Didn't work.

There is a strange, often self-destructive attraction to authority (blue lights as "a__hole magnets"); drunks and so forth come up and, I think, try to turn into the officer, to "do police things."

I had one wild teenager stop me on the street and begin issuing police-sounding orders. Stuff from TV. "DROP THAT WEAPON!" Luckily for him, an adult relation came along and forcefully collected him before he got himself OCed -- or worse.

I think thorough tox screens should always be done in these cases of shootings by police in defense against threatening, irrational behavior. Some of them may be alcoholic "blackouts" in which the person is simply not home, but the mechanism is walkin' and talkin' on its own. You can't tell by looking whether or not the lights are on in there. Cocaine, tranquilizers, and other common drugs can intensify and deepen these blackouts.

Look at all the bars. Look at all the liquor stores. Look at the semi-truck loads of booze going up the street. Look at all the pharmacies. Look at all the street dealers.

It's all going somewhere.

Stay safe!

"About the faux problem of the vest cover."

Why did the department authorize the black vest cover? To increase our visibility to citizens.

Because our staffing is so low, it was thought to be a good way to show people that we're out there.

Although a side benefit, it certainly wasn't out of fear of fratricide. When's the last time a Chicago copper shot another in a case of mistaken identity?

It also wasn't to make us more easily identifiable to the thugs. Another side benefit, yes, but was it the intention? No. They know who the po-leece are.

Look at the approved black vest cover; "POLICE" emblazoned across the back and an oversize star on the front. It was all an attempt to make it look like there are more of us out there than there actually are.

To take them away now would diminish our visibility to Joe Average.

Feel safer yet, taxpayers?

Can someone please tell the useless piece of.shit Area 5 hgs Lt. that she should worry about more than vests on a police shooting. She is a prime example of what is wrong with this department. Why put her in charge of a violent crimes unit when she should be in a district on midnights somewhere out south.

Regarding vest expiration: The five year term of the warranty is just that- a warranty. It means that the manufacturer warrants ( promises ) that it will work a certain way for a certain period of time. They make no binding promise that it will work at all after that time. It doesn't mean it won't, just that you don't get anything out of them if it doesn't. I'd like to have the boss who is inspecting my vest point out any binding contractual provision that states I have to wear a vest that's under warranty. Such a provision doesn't exist. If they can prove that my specific vest, worn only by me, treated as I treat it, is not functioning, then fine. Note that they aren't allowed to test it to see if it will stop a bullet because that would ruin it and they'd owe me a vest at the expense of CPD.

Of course this is a non-issue since there have been no instances of a CPD vest failing in use. We "dodged a bullet" on those Xylon vests, but that is another story.

So...rest easy on this one.

And by a new vest you cheap bastard.

To the idiot 025th district officer who posted a rant about the d.c. gfy! I only have three years on the job and I am on 3rd watch because of management's choice. Do you know why? Because of activity. That is why. I work very hard and so I am not stuck on 1st watch. Maybe if you wrote parking tickets, movers, contact cards, driver contact cards, etc.... then you would be fine. But don't bitch and not have any activity.

7/27/2011 08:06:00 AM

Wow, three whole years on the job and you have it all figured out! You got it man. Hard work and lots of activity will take care of all your problems and grant all of your wishes on this department. You got me crying because I'm laughing so hard. P.S. maybe if you write a few more parkers and do an occasional caps service request you can get 2nd watch! If you throw in a bus check they might even promote you! LOL

Wake up, the new recruits are on probation for 18mos. That means FTOs. I pretty sure you won't see 50 FTOs sent to transit.

vest inspections coming soon at firearm qualifications this year, you might want to borrow your young partners vest.

you heard it here first.

As long as you have one there is no order that says it cant be expired.

=======

No, your not 100% right.

Here is an example: You must have

PRESCRIBED UNIFORM/EQUIPMENT ITEMS
A. Clothing
1. Blouse - 100% Wool (dress uniform)
2. Cap - 100% Wool, Round Crown
3. Cap - Cloth, Round Crown (field uniform)
4. Coat - 100% Wool Reefer (dress uniform - police officers;
alternate field uniform - sergeants)
5. Footwear - Military Oxford
6. Gloves - White
7. Jacket - cloth (field uniform)
8. Necktie
9. Shirt - Long and Short Sleeve, (Police Officer - Light Blue,
Sergeants - White)
10. Socks (black)
11. Trousers - 100% Wool.

However none can be ripped and worn-out etc. *But it does not say this in the order*

does this mean your uniform can be ripped, dirty and unusable? NO because it's covered in the rules and regs.

III. REGULATIONS ESTABLISHING THE GOALS OF DEPARTMENT
MEMBERS

then read

G.O. 98-10-3 PRESCRIBED UNIFORM

Body Armor - Department-authorized

the body armor must be authorized.

any less then 5 years is not "Authorized". by the dept.

this is from the point of view from the brass,so don't shoot the messenger.
