Attack Near Rahm's House

  • Tom Lashinski was walking his mother's small dog in the North Center neighborhood early Sunday when he noticed two people scuffling in an alley.

[...] At first, he thought it was a drunken brawl that spilled from a bar. But as he got closer, he saw that it was a female Chicago police officer who had a man pinned to the ground.

  • Spotting Lashinski, who had a cell phone in his hand, the office yelled for him to call 911. She also asked him to grab her police radio to signal that an officer was in danger.

"I had to reach and get the radio for her, the guy was struggling and kicking, and I had to stand on his legs," said Lashinski, 28.

Within minutes, 10 to 15 police vehicles arrived.
This might have ended very badly but for the timely arrival of this gentleman:
  • The suspect -- identified as Anthony Perez, 45 -- began biting, punching and kicking the officer and tried several times to pull the officer's gun from her holster, Sullivan said.

By the time Lashinski came to her aid, the officer had bloody gashes on her arms. The man had lost a tooth, he said.
The officer was treated and released, but will have some mending to do.
  • Perez, of the 4200 block of North Kenmore Avenue, is a convicted felon with more than 30 arrests. He was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, burglary, resisting arrest and attempting to disarm a police officer. He is expected to be in bond court on Monday.
Anita Alvarez has scheduled the I-bond signing for Tuesday, a public apology to the suspect on Wednesday, Rahm will sign a check for the tooth Perez lost on Thursday and by Friday, a Cook County jury will have acquitted the assailant of all charges.

The following Monday, the jagoff be moving into the Officer's house amid front page coverage from both newspapers and a Mope-rah exclusive. And word is J-Fled has already referred to the case to the US Attorney for possible federal charges of "practicing dentistry without a license."

Pretty obvious that this man was just trying to keep the trigger happy officer from pulling that weapon and causing trouble in the mayors hood... ya know?

Just doing the jobs that Americans don't want to do -- trying to make his-self a better life that's all.

North Center isn't anywhere near Rahm's house. His home is in Ravenswood Manor.

However, I think the people wasting their money on million dollar homes in North Center are finding out that money does not buy safety from crime.

I park my personal vehicles on the 4200 block of N. Ravenswood...maybe I should reconsider, especially seeing that this incident was subsequent to a car burglary. In any case, kudos to the guy who assisted the officer.

And to the guy who said it's "nowhere near" Rahm's house - he lives one block to the east of where this incident occurred. Maybe not strictly North Center, but damned close.

You need to look at a map, bucko. The Manor is west of the river, where Blago lives. Rahm is on Hermitage. North Center isn't correct either. It's Lakeview. Lakeview extends north of Irving west of Clark.

Why was this PO working 99 on midnights?

How many cars were down completely?

South and West side districts have officers tripping over each other.

Us overly taxed residents are stripped of protection.

SCC Please use this one if at all. I failed to spell check the first one as thoroughly. Thx.

First the Officer was ON DUTY and not OFF DUTY which is apparent from the cited article.
PART ONE
This incident is a prime example of the flagrant and reckless disregard for the safety of the officers guarding the mayor's residence and probably officer safety in general. One would think the Mayor's house would be an important house in the city but perhaps not...I mean who fucking cares right?

For those that are unaware "The Detail" consists of an unmarked car in the front and the back of the mayor's residence manned by one officer 24/7. Yes, you can read that again ONE OFFICER 24/7. The assigned officers park their personal vehicle in the vicinity of the mayor's house and begin "The Detail" which is in it's first week. It has been discussed because "The Detail" is set up as a "disaster waiting to happen" and lo and behold. Luckily, in this case, we got away with "Treated and Released" and not "Amazing Grace." We are very lucky we won't be going to a funeral next week.

This officer despite the Monday morning quarterbacks SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ALONE. This officer was set up to fail. PERIOD. END OF STORY. I hate being right. We should all get a fucking Nobel Peace Prize for Fucking Fortune Telling! We fucking told you so ass-hats! Yes, I have worked alone. Yes, I have worked more violent places than 0XX. What is so infuriating is that we all know "The Detail" is set up to fail and YET NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT.

I know, "Get used to it kid." First of all. I am not a kid, old man. Step aside and retire. Or young lazy boy-wonder go fucking work someplace before you talk your shit. It makes a difference despite thoughts to the contrary.

I have been on the job long enough to know we now live with complacency and institutional laziness like an alcoholic lives with their favorite drink. But oh, I don't know, how about some FUCKING ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE FUCKING LEADERSHIP TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AT LEAST OUR SAFETY! GOD DAMM! If she had been killed the brass would have stood there with their collective hands in their fine pressed pants pockets which haven't known the sweat of a beat car in the summer since the fucking pilgrims came over the on the Mayflower. They would have turned to each other and said, "It is such a tragedy." There would have been an spike in finger sprains at the medical section because of all of finger pointing of an aggressive nature going on at HQ.

Oh yeah fuckers it would have been a tragedy because you assholes quite clearly didn't think. You don't ride a beat car. You don't respond to calls for service or assistance for that matter. You don't arrest anyone. You don't search anyone. You don't work midnights. You get paid to fucking THINK FOR A LIVING! THINK FUCKERS ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE BESIDES YOURSELVES AND YOUR PROTECTED 100k+ CITY FUCKING JOB FOR A JUST A FUCKING SECOND!

Um, last I checked we (as the police) are in the business of thinking shit through. We have been playing "What if..." since our FIRST FUCKING DAY in the academy. And all of a sudden by magic (Tinker Bell Music Cue) the leaders who supposedly have decades and maybe even more than an century of combined police experience can't find their ass with two hands? All of a sudden they forgot the "What if..." ?!Seriously, Fuck You Assholes!

8/29/2011 12:59:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

PART TWO
How can anyone, anyone, A.N.Y.O.N.E. expect the front line officers to take initiative and be responsible for fucking anything if the leadership isn't accountable. You aren't accountable to us therefore we are accountable to you. Perhaps a structural change in the way leadership is delivered which would require TRAINING that is spelled T.R.A.I.N.I.N.G of the leadership to LEAD would be necessary to get the department out of the bottom of the shit-smelling summer outhouse shitter it's in!

Such gross and despicable disregard for the care and safety of the officers is completely unacceptable! The decision makers who allow this type of activity to occur should truly be ashamed of themselves. "They" wonder why the rank and file are the way we are. It is because of absolute stupid-ass, lame-brained, short-sighted un-fucking believable decisions like this time and time again.

Think about this next statement in a I-know-more-than-you-do-because-I-came-on-the-job-at-the-turn-of the-century-kind-of-way, "You ain't getting no more man power. No way will it ever be a two man detail." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Maybe you should have had your crusty, pompous, neglectful, irresponsible, 6 hour-a-day-gig, on-the-take mother fucker's ass to the fucking hospital to see what YOUR DECISION ACTUALLY MEANS TO US you FUCKING fuckstick! Fuck you AND your BAR Mother-Fucker. I know perhaps if the Commander of "The Detail" had bothered to answer his Crackberry that night I would be directing my comment to his "taken care of" exempt rank-ass in a more respectful manner. However, since you opened your pie-hole with uninformed, ill-advised, shit-from-pack-up-a-hype's-ass you are getting it fucktard! Ride a beat car on midnights and then talk to me you STUPID-6-HOUR-A-DAY-DAY-FUCK! Get in harm's way and see how you respond. I think we already know. I mean how hard would it have been to say, "We will look into it?" Everything we are supposed to know we learned in Kindergarten and you NEVER SHOWED UP. It shows.

Everyone is crying about manpower. I get it. The places where people are getting shot and killed arguably may need more police. However, we just had a bid for HUNDREDS of coppers to be placed in these areas. If the focused police presence didn't reduce the amount of violence in an area as part of a UNIT, then why would we think increased police presence would reduce violence when these officers are supposedly ASSIGNED TO THE SAME FUCKING DISTRICTS? (Different discussion, I digress.)

8/29/2011 12:59:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

PART THREE
My point is we don't need that many officers to make this problem go away. Since there were several hundred officers "put back on the streets" all we might need is a handful at the district level. Maybe 7. Maybe 10. Maybe 12. That's all.

(Sharp intake of breath. Think delivery in astonishment) Oh my God how can you say that?
(Dramatic pause) That is THE NORTHSIDE! THEY HAVE CUBS FANS THERE! There is no fucking crime up there!?

Well, not entirely true at all. We actually have legitimate victims (imagine victims with no rap sheets who say please and thank you. I know hard for some of us to imagine) on the Northside which in my opinion is far worse than "Pooky" and "Junebug" suffering the cost of doing their business. A certain district on the Northside where this violent incident against an officer occurred would be much safer with an extra 7, 10 or 12 officers on midnights than the south and west sides would be with an extra 70, 100 or 120 officers.

The papers could read, "Crime Down on the Northside" hold a press conference talk about all of the aggressive crime fighting techniques and the teamwork blah blah blah. Then deal with the beef from the Revs and say, "We put an extra 500 officers on YOUR streets and crime is still the same. What exactly are you doing in your churches Rev that leads and perpetuates this killing?" (I know wishful thinking)
Spin it. Damn! We have to be able to have some place safe in the city for crying out fucking loud.

I am just an average policeman who wants to go home and wants all of his co-workers to go home in the same way we came to work. Unfortunately, because of idiotic, neglectful, wasteful, selfish, short-sighted decisions by our leaders who preach officer safety but do not act like such a wish is getting harder and harder to accomplish. Quit insulting our intelligence and stop pretending. Just say we are on our own. We know it already. Yes, that is what it has come to. I know I don't expect that. That would require someone of decision making power to have balls and take responsibility for the people under them. It would require thought. It is too bad their isn't one of you up there in the White Tower who can fucking THINK.

Thanks for reading. Be careful

8/29/2011 09:00:00 AM

First let me say, those so called security cameras don't do shit. They move back and forth mostly pointed at the sky not capturing shit. Even if they do the picture quality sucks. These bullshit cameras have not solved any crimes but keep that false sense of security.
Secondly, you received a lecture from the 911 operator stating that there was no crime because she was right there was no crime. Teens walking down the street is not a crime and no I'am not going to stop them and violate their civil rights and get sued, lose my job or end up in prison because you Mr./Mrs.citizen will not back me, support me, nor give my family money to feed them when I lose my job.
Thirdly, you then said they had guns which was not true, you just wanted the police there faster.(Sounds like some typical ghetto response to get the police there faster). Nice way to get an officer hurt or killed in an accident responding to a bullshit man with a gun call. You Mr. citizen should have been arrested for your bullshit call!! You hate the police, don't support the police but want the police when you feel scared or intimidated by those unruly looking "teens". Here's an idea you are on your own fend for yourself. Time for Rahm to reevaluate Citizen Daley's bodyguard detail and get these political hacks back to patrol division .

You appear to be making some legitimate points concerning the mayoral home detail. However, it's lost in the vitriolic raving. Try a pithy approach.

The problem I have with this incident besides the officer being 99 detailed to Rahms house is why is there even a detail period. Fuck Rahm, Daley, Burke and any other detail. You are people just like me. When my house was broken into I waited over an hour for the police to arrive on a burglary in progress to a P.O. s house. Why, because we are shorthanded and in backlogs. Fend for yourselves and dial 99 just like the rest of us have to. Eliminate these ridiculous bodyguard details, you are not royalty!

Um, no dumbass...if you watched the news a few months ago, they showed his hous...with the address. Without giving away the exact location, he lives in the area bounded by Irving Park & Montrose and Ravenswood and Ashland. That certainly isn't Rogers Park!

If you read this blog please pay attention. If you want to make one really critical change to our department please make every car in every district on every watch a 10-4 unit. This officer should not have been working alone. No officer should. No detective should. No ET should. The tragic death of ET Flisk taught us that. No canine handler should. No sergeant should. The incident of a sergeant shooting an offender on a domestic recently in 15 taught us that. We need to be 2 person all the time in every district. Chicago is just not a safe place to be working alone. I wouldn't work alone if I sold ice cream, we certainly shouldn't work alone when we have a job that entails taking an individual's freedom away. Thank God this officer will be OK but things could very easily have been very bad for her. There really is no such thing as a safe district or watch. I've worked the westside most of my career but the most brutal fight with an arrestee I've had was in a northside district. You never know what neighborhood a violent felon is going to be driving through. Everyone stay safe.

Because (while I am not a big fan) there might be more disgruntled assholes like you who might want to do him some harm and because he is the Mayor. Sorry that you got burgled, but that was random while there are nuts out there who might want to harm him or his family just because he's the mayor. Burke-no. Neely-no, but the mayor yes.

Just for a minute, try thinking like a law enforcement professional.

Sergeants in New York do not work alone. They are assigned a person to work with/driver for just this reason.

I know a lot about this incident but I don't want to say too much here. Other P.O.s will have to work this detail and I don't want to point out the weaknesses involved in this not well thought out assignment. This P.O. could have died from an offender who was intent on getting away at any cost-including twice trying to disarm her. She fought a long hard fight-alone. She is injured worse than you would think from reading newspaper articles. To all of you who want to make points about petty stuff, I say please stop. To the P.O. who went through this experience, I say that I am glad you made it and a lot of us know what happened and we wish you a complete recovery. You did well and many of us stand behind you and wish you the best.

"Perez, of the 4200 block of North Kenmore Avenue, is a convicted felon with more than 30 arrests."

How does this work -- each arrest is like adding another merit badge to your sash, and this impresses the judge who lets you out earlier each subsequent time?

One arrest can destroy a decent man's life; thirty, fifty, one hundred arrests make no difference to the scum.

On the wrong track here, huh?

Hey Rahm thanks for replying but a) yes I might be an asshole I never said anything about me harming him. Once again he is a citizen like you and me. We all deserve protection but we all can't have 24/7 bodyguards. I am a human being just like him (he is not royalty) So fucking what he is the mayor. Does harming or killing him carry more wight than harming or killing me or you? I think not. I'm sure your falily would feel the same.
Secondly, you know nothing about my burglary. It was not random it was a gang initiation to break into a cop (my) house and steal my gun. If you are the police maybe you have heard of this going on.
Thirdly, I am thinking like a law enforcement professional as well as a taxpayer who is trying to go along with Rahms plan to tighten the belt and help with budget cuts. Now you can go back to kissing Rahms ass.

"Tom Lashinski was walking his mother's small dog in the North Center neighborhood..."

Born here and never heard of that "neighborhood" before.

"Coy" isn't the word here. "Obscurantist," "deceptive," maybe. "North, but not too far north, and kind of near the middle but not exactly in the center..."

Stop it.

Boy, someone wants to keep the property values up...

Now for the piece of garbage that commited this
crime, he should never see the light of day.
End of case!

You or I might not want to think that killing the mayor carries more weight, but it does actually. It might not be fair, but that's the way that it is. At least in the eyes of the public and according to the law actually. Just like one of us getting attacked carries more weight than a civilian being attacked.

And yes, I have heard of the gang initiation cop burglaries. I just don't think that every burglary at a coppers house is a gang initiation. If your guy got caught and gave that up, then I stand corrected.

Finally I am not kissing rahms ass. In my post I said I was not a fan. At all. He's gonna skin us for all he can. And the public is on his side. That's why I am happy that I retired a year ago, after 26 years.

Stay safe out there.

i actually know the guy, he doesn't live on Kenmore probably just last official address. he's homeless and would hang around my street in bridgeport from time to time cause our neighbors would pay him to do work on their houses. he was illiterate and he was a crack head yes and he would always try and sell people stolen stuff it was no secret. to the guy who was saying he's an illegal hes not an illegal immigrant he's Pureto Rican and Navajo Indian born here and said he was raised in lincon park so don't assume anybody with spanish last name is illegal...i am in no way defending him!let me reiterate no way defending him!!!! just giving some background info on the guy but typically for the most part harmless at least to us cause he knew people around here would kinda look out for him and buy his stuff the stuff he stole..... recently has been talking about how he has wanted to die cause he could do nothing with his life he was hooked on crack and tired of being homeless and looked like he was going to go for broke. and sounds like he did. he was probably trying to get her to shoot him..................Anyways, Great work by the Officer and thank you to the citizen and thank you to all the great officers of CPD
