That Time of Year

  • As many as 2 million people were expected to take in the Chicago Air & Water Show on Saturday and Sunday and that means a big job for Chicago police.

As CBS 2 [...] reports, some officers are working 13 hours each day because of the event. Others are beginning as early as 6 a.m. to start patrolling the lakefront.

  • Sources said that gang officers would be saturating the lakefront along with officers from different areas and districts.

Officers and ambulances also were being positioned at various locations at Oak Street Beach, along Inner Lake Shore Drive and under several viaducts.

Tactical officers were being deployed at Oak Street Beach as well.

[...] At North Avenue Beach, high-ranking officers were part of the foot patrol on Friday and police and paramedic bike units were patrolling along with the full mounted unit.

Sources said officers have been told to be diligent – if they see a situation where crowds are gathering and there’s the potential for trouble, the situation needs to be handled immediately.

Police don’t want a repeat of the mob attacks that plagued North Avenue Beach on Memorial Day.

Whoa whoa whoa! What's that last line?
  • Police don’t want a repeat of the mob attacks that plagued North Avenue Beach on Memorial Day.
So now it wasn't "the heat?" Have we stopped using that as a code word? Could someone downtown please come up with a cheat sheet or a list of current code words and lies we're telling the media and the public, because we're having an awfully difficult time keeping it all straight.

After Sunday Rahm will cancel the Air & Water show because he thought the jets were too loud and woke up the rich old timers who live off of Oak St. beach. Can't have crowds on the lakefront anymore. Too many arceholes who want to cause trouble. Certainly not enough police to control things. Have the "Air Show" out in Boone County next year or somewhere else rural.

I predict roving bands of honor students acting obnoxious and lewd to all the B's & H's, running, pushing, shoving, kicking and punching. I predict it will happen sunday as its going to rain saturday. I predict Georgas pimpin' the VIP seats for everyone from his church and anyone else he thinks he needs to kiss ass to. I also predict KA losing his mind every time he sees a baggy pant savage. I predict KA marching orders to get right up on every group of two or more until the pressure finally explodes into a 10-1 or a strapped banger running from the PoPo and letting off random cover fire in his wake. The rest is just too ugly to even think about. I just hope none of us an no normal people get hurt. I for one won't be anywhere near that cluster f%$k. O.T.- Why is our department so fucking obsessed with activity? My sgt. is harping at me at my low activity numbers. My parkers are fine, movers are fine and so are contact cards. The one area where I don't have enough activity is under arrests. But that is because I only will arrest someone on a signed complaint. I am not going to go out there and look for arrests. Fuck that. When will the reverends or other organizations figure out that our department wants numbers.

What is with this new rating system we have? Obviously those cops who have good numbers get a higher grade and those who come in with zeros get a lower rating. This is unfair. It's not our job to tow cars, impound cars, write parking tickets, moving tickets, make arrests, etc... Our job is to patrol the streets. Let's face the facts- the city and management won't say it outright, but they are interested in activity that generates money for them (tickets, tow and impoundment of cars, etc.).

Anyone sick of the BS the city and Mcjersy are pulling the answer is simple write a case report for every call you go on. Write a case report for every BS hand waver. The only reason crime is down is because we code out every job. If you ever want the ciityto hire or promote start writing case report and stop coding out jobs. Take20 mins write out a case report who cares if their is a back log. Just back each other up and write paper on every job.

Off topic from the Air and Water show but needs to be said.
The recent storm we had where many city residents sustained water damage to their basements as a result of the citys lack of sewer capacity is criminal. Every taxpayer pays a line item on their water bill called "total current sewer". I called the water department and they explained this charge is for removing 86% of the water that is used by the homeowner and returned to the sewer system. Here is the problem. We are paying for the city to remove our sewage however at certain times when their system can't handle the sewage due to their lack of upgrading the system the city uses our basements to increase the capacity of the sewer system without our consent causing thousands of dollars damage to our basements. I submit that we be allowed to deduct the sewer portion of our water bill until we are made whole for the damage sustained to our basements. Furthermore I submit that every homeowner that has had the city use their basement to store sewage be allowed to install a one way valve/flood control system and deduct that cost as well by not paying the sewer portion of their water bill until made whole for the cost of the flood control system as well as the damage sustained.

You work with who you know from partners on up. I made it or one of the guys I worked with made it and I advance. Bad luck picking friends and co-workers and no good at test taking and I don't advance.

Is there a lot of political clout pushed down our throat? Sure. Buts that the way everything is OUTSIDE the Department.
At least there is a testing process where we have a shot, albeit a small one, to advance.

Yes, deportation cases for criminals should be moved to the top of the list, but openly announcing that almost all other illegal immigrants will not be deported is just going to encourage millions more illegal immigrants to come pouring in to this country.

Government officials have now been given a list of 19 factors to use when deciding whether to use “prosecutorial discretion” in deportation cases.

Essentially, what is going to happen now is that illegal immigrants are going to get to stay in the United States if any of the following apply….

-arrival in the U.S. as a young child

-actively “pursuing an education”

-serving or served in the U.S. military

-spouse of someone in the U.S. military

-18 years old or younger

-”elderly”

-pregnant or nursing

-victim of a “serious crime”

-serious disability or health problem

-caring for a family member with a serious disability or health problem

As you can see, these categories are so broad that almost all illegal immigrants will be able to fit into at least one of them.

That article is BS. It was a cache of homemade weapons-- for a nerd convention of some sort, things like nunchaka, crossbows, none of it functional or intended to be used in a crime. It just happened that the meet-up and G20 occurred on the same weekend. Other than a few cops beating the piss out of protesters, there wasn't anything of note during Toronto's G20.

I don't see where TMAs were eliminated. I saw plenty of them today. I pulled up near navy pier and at one light there were three(3) standing there in a group. One(1) would then direct you to go as the light turned green ( good concept there )I couldn't figure that out without you. I went maybe 100 feet and to my surprise three(3) more useless TMAs in a huddle. Withing three blocks I saw at least 15 TMA's doing exactly what I'm still not sure. My son in the back asked why they were there to direct me through the green light. Even he at his young age could figure out the waste!!!!

The refusal to discourage extreme tactics — which security experts fear could include the torching of banks and vehicles in the downtown core — comes a day after Toronto police discovered a cache of “homemade weapons” hidden in some bushes near Allan Gardens, the picturesque park near Yonge and College Streets where protesters are expected to hunker down and establish a tent city.

8/20/2011 08:43:00 AM

I agree with you 110%. We need to get other officers on board though. You are right, give paper to everyone. Too often we don't give paper when it's necessary. We code out jobs and go to our next job. We shoot ourselves on the foot and then wonder why we are short!

The illegal immigrants enable the political apparatus the tools necessary to overcrowd the school classrooms -- so that the political apparatus can then demand more taxes and fix the overcrowding crisis..don't you get it?

Look at these pitiful classroom conditions. Don't you hear the "hearts and minds" speeches, the emotional pleas? Use the kids as tools to get your money, raise your taxes -- it's for the kids how can you not want to help the kids..see??

It's no wonder we can't compete we need more teachers and more taxes...and that's why we support the casinos!! see...ha!

Pay no attention to the fact that many moons ago we had told the peoples that the Illinois lottery money would fix all these school funding crisis's.

About a year after these casino's open the money that's allotted to go to the schools will be put into a general fund (just like the state lottery money was ) and the schools will be whining about overcrowding and a shortage of funds.

Never-mind that the core issue is giving the illegal immigrants amnesty like Obama is doing right now.

This is being shoved down the taxpayers throats and the taxpayers are going to be forced to pay for it whether they like it or not!

The taxpayers are paying for the medical care, the free childbirth and instant citizenship, and the schooling. Meanwhile they are breaking the immigration laws, driving with licenses, driving without insurance, working under fraudulent social security numbers and often times dealing in illicit substances...and the president is waving them in the country. Come on in, bypass the laws, ignore the laws they mean nothing.

This country is up for grabs.

What world do you think you live in? The corporate world you all speak so lovingly of is ALL who you know. That is human nature.

Thanks for solidifying the original argument. So if the politics benefit you, then its all okay. That is exactly the mentality that is the problem.

So what we are left with is a department made up of incompetent, leaders who were given their spots rather than having to earn them by hard work and dedication.

A once proud department, is now the laughing stock of law enforcement agencies. We have inept command staff members some that cannot even get federal clearances but thats okay, thats just the way it goes.

You have got to be kidding!

After the latest round of BS at
35th street, rumor has it that two north side Commanders are submittung their papers. Moy & Boehmer are calling it quits by
15 Sept 11. There are also strong hints that there will be a shuffle of exempts on 16 Sept 11. The reason for the timing is with regard to 11 Sept 11 and the Mayor does not want focus or attention to disruptions in the police department.

I have 28 years on and have wanted to work somewhere quiet tht does not involve expressway btravel till I get the age. Considered 020 a couple of times but the thought of having to look at Moy with a gold star was too much to bear. The only question is who will be her replacement and will they ever have openings? I overheard someone talking about Schloss or Forlenza for her replacement. Anyone else heard this? That might be worse.

The flashmobbers are in for a very rude awakening if they think they're gonna start making shit like that a regular occurrence in or around Chinatown.

The boys in Chinatown don't need the police to handle a group of savages; lifelong friends in the area tell me the neighborhood "Social Clubs" have already met regarding Friday's incident (it wasn't quite the mass "bum rush" incidents we've seen as of late, but unwelcome nonetheless) and have formulated plans to deal with any future incidents without calling 911.

Theirs is a quiet culture that thrives on respect for their elders. Respect for others' property is also high on the list of things to abide by. When anyone goes against the grain in this capacity, they are usually outcast immediately. Outsiders that disrespect people and property are dealt with even quicker.

With knowing grins, I was told that the CPD would set records for Missing Persons reports following any subsequent incidents.

Again...these folks don't play. Believe that.

There are alot worse bosses on this job than Judy Martin. And BTW, how can you dislike anyone that had the smarts and gumption to dump Deidre to 014.

Nice guy nice guy, knock that shit off already. She does not deserve to be a commander period. Along with 99% of the cronies that just got nominated by other cronies.

Re: Lies
For a lie to believed as truth, it must be told the same, exact way continuously.

Re: Illegal Aliens
Either one is a legal immigrant or an illegal alien. It's time to stop the political correctness!

Yeah, he really cares what the fuck you think. I'm sure he'll give cops, teachers and firefighters massive raises next contract because of a poll.

20 min??? How about 45!

We need to stop the Edison fest. The north side irish parade. Drunk white kids pissing and fighting. This was very disgusting to watch. I had the same problem by my house. Teens drunk and acting the fool. Where are the parents? Drinking at the fest? I am embarassed to live there.

I totally agree the sad part about this is that 90% of these teenagers are the kids of police officers. What's even more depressing it that these are students of our local Catholic schools.

Unfortunately true, the majority of problematic parks etc in 016 are because of City workers (police, fire, streets) kids who have absolutely NO respect for anything...
