Whoops!

  • A man driving to work this morning on Chicago's Northwest Side got an unpleasant surprise when his SUV tumbled into a sinkhole.

The incident happened at the intersection of Foster and Elston avenues at about 5:30 a.m., said police and a spokesman from the Chicago Department of Water Management.

"I saw him actually climb out of the hole on a ladder," said Joe Springer, whose bar Rabbit's sits at the corner. "The cops told me he was okay."

Tom LaPorte, the water management spokesman, said the 10-to-12-foot hole was believed to have developed after a water main broke under the street and the water washed away the layers of dirt supporting the road.
It ate the entire car:

Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt.

scc, you should ask around to people who have seen the garage sale sign in 008. there is a sign of a garage sale to get bail money to get pookie out of jail. It even has a drawing of two stick figures behind bars saying,
help bail me out, my link comes in on the 21st". its pretty damn funny... side note, it just goes to show you what these animals use link cards for... he is going to repay those who get him out by cashing out his link card... what a system. If anyone here has that picture send it to scc...its classic!

We need a bigger one of these to develop under 3510 S. Michigan.

No doubt that'd boost morale.

It's a seven-figure lawsuit for the city, that's for sure.

A slam dunk with all the TV coverage.

All I would have to do is tell the jury, "It was on TV - pay the man!"

All my friends visited Mr. Khim in the hospital to hand him their card but I was there first.

Next case.

It would have to be deep enough that no ladder could reach those inside. Not that anyone would offer one......

I have a question. I remember handling a car in a sink hole about 25 years ago. The report was made on a missile card, as it was not technichally a crash. Is that how this incident was reported? Just wondering.

All kidding aside, our infrastructure is crumbling everyday. look at the supports that hold up bridges and viaducts. it's not a question of if they collapse, but when.

Remember all the warnings that were given before the tunnel downtown collapsed? same thing brewing here. . . .

Global warming. Right, Tom Laporte? Just like you said basement flooding was partly global warming's fault. What a great excuse for everything. If he was driving an electric car, he wouldn't have gone in that sink hole. Right?

Word on the street is this driver didn't buy his city vehicle sticker and this is the way the city plans to deal with such offenders. Beware.

Auxiliary Re-qualifications must not be a department priority, but God forbid an officer involved shooting investigation reveals the officer "failed to comply" with the yearly qualification procedures. You WILL take days and its total bullshit. And if they expect me not to carry my auxiliary weapon on the street until im qualified, they are fucking high.

Uh,

>words fail me<

Uh, given what we see and hear every day, I think the word we're looking for is "disincentive."

I don't know about contributions from the guys who tore another pair of pants or put their back out hauling your wild ass down off that chain-link while you were kicking them in the face, but we can probably figure a way to catch you wrong enough to be able to shoot you.

Does that help?

You thought open hydrants were bad. Now we got the Luray Caverns -- remember those bumper stickers? -- running out 50,000 gallons per minute into some kind of vast underground river.

The Asian Carp are gonna get into the water system itself if this keeps up.

Just heard in walking by the radio or TV that someone else just got shot "in the box" where the pregnant 17-year-old got it.

It's too weird. What, we get TWO full moons this month or something?

OFF TOPIC again. Illinois ranks 3rd in the nation for decline in new housing permits, and third in the nation for states in which no one wants to buy a new home.

Just saw a picture of the fellow in a hospital bed -- he was admitted, and had an IV going. Older gentleman. Freaking car was upside down, came out that way in the slings.

Liability? Oh ho. Just you wait.

And our wonderful Mayor laid off a whole bunch of people who fix these things! What a guy!!!! The street in front of my house has caved in 4 times in the last year. Throw gravel in it and leave it. Thats all that gets done now. Hey Mayor! Let's lay off even MORE working men and women! That will fix EVERYTHING! Use the money for more flowers and new playgrounds for the drug dealers to hang out in. They have standards too you know!
