Still Obliterating

  • With their weapons drawn, Chicago Police officers launched a new assault on the Maniac Latin Disciples on Thursday.

Supt. Garry McCarthy declared war on the gang in June after a member allegedly shot and wounded two young girls on the Northwest Side. Since then, patrol officers have made more than 500 arrests of gang members.

On Thursday, it was the narcotics division’s turn. Narcotics officers have spent months building drug cases against gang members.

One thing disturbed us though:
  • Some of the officers wore bandanas to hide their faces because they work undercover.
Seriously? Why are we using UCO's to do busts? And the bandanas? Call us crazy, but that seems very....Third World-ish? Aren't those what the "death squads" wear in Brazil, Mexico or some other backwater shithole? We're so shorthanded, we're risking exposing the UCO's who do a lot of the necessary footwork to make cases that will stick in court. That's just silly in our opinion.

In the end, eight of the twenty-plus targets were arrested.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time that City Hall listens to us!

"HIRE MORE OBLITERATORS!"

sorry, I got carried away.

Some of you think its all b.s., but its the same problem with officers marching in the St. Jude parade. Its not meant to insult the families. Its meant to keep all of our officers protected and alive.

Yes St. Jude parade may be a tradition, but when this parade/tradition started, there weren't that many undercover officers because there weren't that many "large" specialized units. Furthermore, the crimes of today and the lack of respect for police of today ARE GONE!

Again - do not force undercover officers to march, nor be pissed off if they elect/request not to march in the St. Jude parade. All police officers believe in the parade, and will be there in heart and mind and soul, and will always donate monetarily.

Re: Bandannas

I guess the answer is that Narcotics can only "trust" themselves to do "whatever" needs be done ...right...

So ATTENTION: we should all trust to notify them when the W/C says you should notify Narcotics on whatever you got or any "decent" dope arrest...

YEAH RIGHT!

The soft keep getting softer!
The goofs keep getting goofier!
The (on the job) retired keep getting ....uh .....retireder?

So go ahead wear your Bandannas...do it yourselves...We should give it all up to you guys..... WE QUIT.. its your department now.....We all just go here while the phone call clout heavy work their "MAGIC" and show everyone how its done right!

By the way I got some GOOD info for ya'll.....NOT! Go get it yourself!

Hey... I 'll wear my Bandanna to the Archview tomorrow....if they think I'm robbing it I ll just say hey I 'm trying to impress the Narcotics bosses so maybe they'll notice me on my stealthy tactics and accept my resume cause I look like them!

Lunch anyone?

These operations have been going on for years. Big splash in the Media and a few arrest with very little time given out by the courts.

Time to face it: this is nothing more than a publicity stunt. If you take the same man hours spent and plop those officers in a uniformed car and leave them on that corner you get more police service for your buck.

Using buy officers for enforcement? That's just plain stupid. Are we that short of manpower? But this is from a Superintendent who wants officers out in hoodies and various disguises.

Let me ask you Mr. Superintendent: How many Chicago plain clothes officers have been shot and killed by other police officers? Don't bother looking it up. It's none.

Now lets ask how many New York coppers have been shot by another cop? How many shitheads have used the excuse in court:"I didn't know they were police" and won an acquittal?

So how many dope boys going to jail for a really short time are worth the life of a Chicago Police officer? Dope boy replaced in about 5 minutes by the next one vs. husband/father/wife/mother who leaves a huge whole in a family's existence?

How many were bullshit charges that will, or already have been dismissed? How many will get probation or supervision and how many are on bond? If we keep achieveing a 20% decrease in crime each month why is there still crime being reported? We'll never eliminate the MLDs. We'll never eliminate crime.

Applicants who test positive for illicit substances won't be eligible for the funds for a year, or until they undergo treatment.
Those who fail a second time would be banned from receiving funds for three years!
Naturally, a few people are crying this is unconstitutional.
How is this unconstitutional ?

Hey Einstein, do your homework. Look up the statistics on the thigh holster. You can draw your weapon a whole second faster using it as your hand is usually right on it and ready to draw your gun naturally w/o having to reach up towards your waist. Sure a second doesn't sound like much time, but in a shooting it is. But let me guess, you prob would never be in a position to draw your weapon as I'm sure you do the bare minimum. Just retire already.

There is no way our joke of a swat team is doing anymore warrants for narcotics or most any other unit. Their hard headed Lt and retarded Sets decided that surround and call out was better than blowing down the door and they will no longer do that. The kicker as in cpd fashion. The swat bosses never informed anyone of this decision. So when narcotics and the gang init called them to do a warrant and the away team just surrounded the house and got on the blow horn telling everyone in the house to come out that was the end
They do a warrant a month tops now. Its a joke.

In Narcotics there are undercover officers that not only march in the St Jude parade, but put their vest on after making a undercover buy and go out and lock people up without the a disguise. I've done it because it was expected by people who don't know any better. Then you're at your local parish carnival standing in line with you kids and who do you see but the guy you bought dope from as an undercover and then arrested as an enforcement officer. Thank God Narcotics has a commander now who has worked every aspect of narcotics and his primary concern is officer safety.

To the undercover officers that don't want to be there to march for fear of compromising their identity. A hat and sunglasses go a long way in concealing your identity. If you think that the criminal element that you’re dealing with every day makes it out to St Jude at 8am you need prescription glasses. I've been marching at St Jude for over 20 years and have never seen a potential seller standing in the crowd of the St Jude parade even when it was on Michigan Avenue. You have a much better chance of being compromised going into or leaving Homan Square. People your team locked up the day before, that you purchased narcotics from, are now coming to the guard shack of your undercover unit asking "where can I get my cell phone". What do you think was going through the minds of the exempts when they decided to put ERPS at Homan Square. Was it influenced by the revruns who thought every time they get arrested theys get to see some mo of those undercover narcos so they won't be sellin to them no mo. Whatever the thought process or lack thereof just eulogizes the total ineptness of our city’s leadership as a whole. Yeah let's make every arrestee go to reclaim their property at the same location where our undercover officer's report to and deploy from every day. That in a nut shell is what is wrong with our Police Department and city leadership. It is also proof positive that you officer are a necessary evil. I will tell you to your face how much you are appreciated and then I will make decisions that are detrimental to your safety and possibly your life. Whoever made this decision and the people who are doing nothing TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION should be pushing a broom somewhere instead of being employed by the city of Chicago, don't have the common sense God gave wild geese, just don't give a shit about officer safety or all of the above. My guess all of the above.
Now go out there and get those bad guys so I look good.

I partially agree with Twenty and out, in that there is manpower out there to be utilized in this type of operation. There are the area teams, most westside and southside districts, with the surge of manpower, now have incident teams, there are tactical teams, you could even call in GEU or GIU, or any number of uniformed or c/d teams to assist as the enforcement teams. The problem is this, there is no spirit of co-operation in this department. Everyone is trying to one up each other. No one wants to share intel because they are afraid they won't get the head, no one wants to ask for assistance because they are afraid they won't get credit for the recovery. It has become every man/woman/child for themselves. This is sad. If we ever to get organized and truly work as a team, we could take back this city in short order, in more ways than one...FOP/PBPA...cough,cough. But that will never happen because the egos are too numerous and too inflated.

The narcotics are making a joke out of police work. 8 arrests from months of investigation? What investigation? These cops are jumping the gun with out accurate information and coming up with nothing. Stop making fools out of yourselves, do your research. I wonder if previous busts have given such pathetic results? Lose the napoleon complex, do your job the right way and earn respect when you can accomplish that. Until then your a laughing joke guys.

OT:Need more officers for the street,Tac Secretaries position should be eliminated, this job takes no longer to do than 1 hour and the watch bid or light duty officers can take this over and send the able officers for street duty.

In real life, the good guys don't need masks. This dippy practice is going to get someone killed someday: either a PO or an armed citizen who stumbles into one of these clusterfucks.

Exactly - Can't believe no one else said it till now.

I see more than a couple of problems wih this, not the least of which is granting a get out of jail free to a police shooter.
You REALLY think a Crook County jury would take more than a half hour to acquit?

Purpose of a drop leg is to clear a big ole vest/plate carrier or a shit ton of gear. That's it.

My thoughts: there are products out there you can use that allow for a chest carry over body armor. Thigh position in police work may create a weapon retention problem, (your thighs move alot don't they boys and girls) and in my opinion an easier disarming opportunity for shithead. The position can snag and bump every fucking thing, and as far as I am concerned puts you in an unbalanced draw position or worse yet, has moved from where you thought it was the second you need it. I worked out with one for a couple of weeks, spent two weeks icing my balls after a pinch.

ps I generally try NOT to look like anyone that I see on TV, good general rule.

Cmon UC there cause shorthanded, how about doing a shift by starters being on time. 189 is notorious for doing work only on OT.

9/30/2011 06:37:00 PM

189 is famous for that? You new here? "No Crime before overtime" is the motto of good detectives everywhere. We have some very good detectives who are expert at spinning the clock. What did you think, people seek promotions to detective to catch bad guys? Fat OT checks brother, it's all about checking the cash box.

A UCO on a publicity raid is dangerous and should never be done.

The press films and takes photos of officers marching and there was one incident that I know of where an undercover officer made the front page and his role in a long term case was over like that. Bad guys fled and warrants issued.

One would hope that other UCs would learn from his mistake and not openly announce one is a cop to the whole world. You cannot get past dumb sometimes.

You are both correct, so unless you are wearing a level 3 heavy raid body armor you should not be wearing a thigh holster. Its just plain stupid and dangerous. You can't retain your weapon as well in a struggle. So probably the only ones who should be wearing a drop holster is swat while on a hbt job or search warrant that's it no one else. I can't see anybody wanting to wear a vest that big and heavy for 8 hrs a day making street and traffic stops.
Let swat do the warrants:
Listen guy im not about to do all the leg work and paperwork then let some goofs in green suits have all the fun and blow the door in. Warrants were done for decades without swat and things worked just fine.

9/30/2011 12:12:00 PM

Who will be the goof when you and your ego are laying in a pool of blood dead! Be smart and safe about things!
