Welcome to HQ CFD

The Chicago Fire Department is in the process of moving bodies and equipment into the new "Public Safety Building" at 3510 S. Michigan. Rumor has it that CFD operations are going to take up an entire floor, maybe two. We can hardly wait to see the new floor assignments. And rumor has it, the pinewood derby that will be held in the 5th floor hallway will be spectacular!

Oh, didn't anyone tell the CFD that the entire building is collapsing from the middle outward? You can actually see gaps between the floor and the walls measuring around an inch in some places on the fifth floor. Desk drawers have to be propped shut. Doors cannot be closed. We think there's some fiendish plot afoot to use the incoming CFD personnel as some sort of cushion for the rest of the building population for that unhappy day that the structural support gives way.

Perhaps you didn't get the memo, SCC. Those 1" gaps between the floors and walls are where the experimental bio-mold is being percolated for future use.

Welcome to Soylent Green, CFD.

This is a way for the city to save even more money as many firemen are also in the trades. The carpenters, masons, laborers,roofers/firefighters will fix all the problems in the building.

Police and fire in the same building. That is a bad idea. That is like mixing oil and water.

Walsh gets enough money to build these stations, they should at least get them right. The building is sinking because the substrate of the whole east side is SAND. The ground is a giant sandbox. Walsh likes to hire fresh young supervisors out of college because they pay them like shit. Well building anything more than a two flat in sand requires a little bit of experience, know-how and DEEP caissons and proper foundations. Tsk Tsk.

Those 1' gaps are for the mayor & his staff to "slither" thru when they visit the building un-announced.

Lets investigate the construction company that built that wreck & what ties they had to Shortshanks. Probably some company that never built anything bigger than a doghouse, but got the big $$$contract cause of their connection

Rumor has it they are already fighting with the firemen over who gets to keep the mold on their floors. This stuff must be tasty if they all want it so bad.

I have been there for the tours and the fire departmentvwants to be as high up in the building as they can and care less about who they put out! CPD should care! Those they are thinking of displacing have been in the same spot since the building opened. For CFD to come in andndetermine the fate based on status for a high floor is insane! They should feel blessed go get a few open offices and cubes here and there not displace folks to covet an entire floor. Can't we all just get along?....

What is all the Bullshit about Police and Fire being in the same building, so what, grow up, we the police don't have anything to do with the makings and running of the CFD and the same goes for them, if the city wants both in the same building then there is not a thing we can do, it's not the end of the world, start worrying about taking care of yourself and other officers and not trivial little things.

If anyone was able to condemn a building it would be a fire Marshall.
